Hi KIm! I'm a new subscriber! Your demos are wonderful, yours are the best-looking, really professional looking headboards and other upholstered pieces on TH-cam! I know you do this kind of work a lot but you make it look so easy and effortless. I am planning to tackle a headboard project myself and you are my inspiration! Thanks for doing this!
I want start off by saying you have been able to teach me in a way i can understand. I want to add wings to my tuffed headboard. How do i do this? Also what type of tool is used for tufting? Thanks,
Hi Winkaport, I am so glad the videos are helpful to you. I would really love it if you could share your project with us on our Kim's Upholstery FB page when you get it going. Thank you for your support and kind words, Happy headboard building, Kim
Hi Kim, I am fairly new to sewing and have a sectional sofa that has attached cushions both on the inside back as well as the seat cushions. I really want to make a slipcover for it & can't find any videos for that type of sofa. Do you have any suggestions for how I can make a slipcover with a skirt? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Mauri
Hi Kim, I have watched several of your videos and would like some help. I love sewing, wood working, and refurbishing in general. My question is what type of schooling do you have to go through to become an upholster? I would very much like to take classes, but there aren't any here locally besides colleges. What would you suggest? Thank you, Sonja
Alexander Alves The extension was a pice of 5" x 3/4" pine. I used a biscuit joiner and wood biscuits glued in to make the joint secure. Thanks for watching Kim
As far as I know you don't need formal training to become an upholsterer in the USA. You could teach yourself by doing your own furniture. Once you are good enough other people will notice and ask you to do theirs. When you feel good enough about the quality of your work you can start to charge for it. You could also look for a local upholsterer that take you in as an apprentice.
commenting from the uk! :) this is fantastic work, good job. I'm thinking of doing my own headboard, what measurements is the foam for the kingsize? did you go off just your average kingsize? also any places you know that do a good price? many thanks in advance
Hi Dave. I do get he width measurement from the bed and the height is a design decision. As for resources with price I'm not in the UK so I can't help with that. Thanks for watching Kim
Hi there, great video and just what I was looking for. I used to be handy with wood tools but haven't touched them in years. I wanted to jigsaw my own form but yesterday I found a very ugly pink tufted king head board at a thrift store and had a vision. I would like to know how much fabric and 2" you used for a King. I will check out your facebook page if I can find it and post my before/after. Thanks again for the video and you are so inspiring although I hate how easy you make it look, lol.
Thanks for your positive feed back. If you try one I would love to see your finished project. You can post to our FaceBook page as everyone loves to see what others have done. Hope you give it a try and thanks for watching. Kim

Hey cowen, Foam thickness for a headboard is a personal decision but we generally use 2" foam, medium density, with 1" bonded Dacron. Kim
Great job! I really enjoy watching your videos
What do you call that metal strip you used to hold the lining at the back of the headboard?
The metal strips you are referring to is called, curve ease. Thanks for watching. Kim

Hi Kim, I have a question. How did you attach the 5 inch extension to the bottom? Where did you get the extension and what did you use?
