I vote for the Supersport S also, driven the 2017 Monster S I loved everything about it apart from the driving position. Matter of Taste but I'm really happy with the SS.
That’s awesome! But our roads are quite salted in Chicagoland, so it’s not even just the cold, but the white slippery salty roads. Don’t want to ride on that crap, get salt dust all up in my machine. I hate living in this region, really hope to move to a more motorcycle friendly environment in the next 10 years!
Hi from NW subs . Really enjoyed your video, liked&subbed. I'm a new rider and always wanted a Monster but went with the queen of smoothness ST3 675. Love it so far but that Supersport looks amazing !
I own a Monster 821, and the SuperSport S is very likely my next bike. A friend just bought a SuperSport and loves it! The fairings, quickshifter/autoblipper, and Ohlins are exactly the three things I want changed from my Monster 821 experience. Enjoy!
Awesome bike man. Considering to sell my sport classic and get one of these. It's a tough decision coz I love the aesthetics of my sport classic but it's really mimimalistic (no abs, traction control, no digital dashboard) and a back breaker on long rides. The supersport is a stunner and does seem to offer a lot more comfort.
Tuesdaysgonewtw Right? That's not even asking for moving lane splitting. It's asking very little and totally a safety issue, just to let the bike be first at the line and not surrounded by texting car drivers after the green. Gotta get some petition going or something.
On my test ride I thought there was quite a bit of vibes through the bars. I kept it around 3-4k which was nice enough. But I didn't feel like I would cruise at those mid level rpms. Really loved the bike, though. Comfy, fun, powerful. Exactly what I expected. Perfect really.
Kevin Boulay None. Sometimes I’ll get a false neutral between 5th and 6th, but that’s not uncommon on many bikes. Have to click the shifter very deliberately from 5th to 6th. Otherwise zero problems. In fact, I’ve now owned 3 Ducati’s in total over the past 3 years and have had zero problems with any. Maybe I’m good at breaking them in properly? Maybe it’s cause they are garage kept? Maybe it’s cause Audi brought a lot of good German quality control influence, or maybe I’m just lucky (or all of the above).
I tested the Monster and this last year. And by looks this won. But the Monster felt so easy to ride. In 10min It felt better than my old bike I drove for a year. I like how nimble it is and the skill cap needed felt lower on the monster. How ever now when I had it for a wile I still wonder if I made the right choice. This bike is still very awesome.
Goratchthemule Both are great and I feel like the Supersport is basically a Monster with some fairings. But the torque curve is better on the SS over the 821 and the SS is a bit faster thanks to that even though the max specs are almost the same.
Why hello neighbor. Fellow suburbian here. I had an '00 SuperSport 750 and it was the best sounding exhaust ever. But the engine was a different story, it sounded like everything under the valve cover was bouncing around. I couldn't tell if I liked the exhaust more than I disliked the engine noise.
jeff westbrooke Hey Jeff, have you demos the new Supersport yet? Head over to MCC in Villa Park and they’ll take care of you. I actually just got the new Termignoni installed on my ‘17 SSS and it sounds FANTASTIC
IL MOSTRO not yet. I do think it looks great, better than my '2000 did. Team MCC has ordered many parts for me but it's been a while. For now I'm enjoying my Ninja 1000. Waiting for a deal on Repsol cbr1000, S1000RR, or maybe even the H2 SX SE. Maybe next year. I like the channel and clean content.
Hi from Australia! Filtering is awesome! Only been legal where I live for a couple of years. Here’s hoping you get it soon. Also guessing it’s pretty cold there by now too. Stay warm!
BTW, the great turning ability may be in part because the Rosso III tires are amazing. I got some recently to replace the Rosso IIs that came with my 821, and they are so much better. I know the SuperSport comes with the IIIs.
Steve Parry Yes the Rosso III’s are great and definitely help! But I do believe the handling on the Supersport is a bit different than the 821 due to some minor geometry changes as well. Overall, it’s just so confidence inspiring right out of the box, it’s amazing.
1066Rider They are more grippy for sure as they are basically track tires for the street. I have Supercorsas on my 848 track-only bike and the grip is incredible. As soon as I put the Supercorsas on I started dragging knees on track. Before that I had Rosso II on the track bike and had little confidence in them. However, Supercorsas will wear out much quicker than Rosso III so it just depends on your wallet. So far I think as a road tire the Rosso III are pretty great.
1066Rider Yeah I’ve heard good things but have not ever had Rosso Corsa. I don’t know what the difference is between them and the Rosso III. I was under the impression that they were one level down from Supercorsas and maybe even more sticky than the Rosso III but not sure.
Typical Swedish Biker Yes. If you think you’ll do more rides under 400 miles, and want a more sporty ride/look, I’d think the SSS would fit better. If you think you’ll do more rides over 400 miles, or many, I’d go with the Multi.
Typical Swedish Biker Haha! I also have the z1000sx 2018 and is also looking at the Supersport S among other bikes. And I am from Sweden aswell :D. The handling on the z1000sx is not that good :(
Hello! I own a Monster 821, and I'm flirting the Supersport S. I have 2 doubts: 1. Is the Supersport S more or less unsociable/agressive than Monster? I use a lot in the city too, and sometimes I think Monster is a bit "feral" . 2. The maneuvering/handling for short corners or even for parking/turning, is better or worse than Monster 821? I think Monster is not good for maneuvering/steering. Thank's! I really appreciate your video.
Sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Felix Mitchell Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Felix Mitchell HOLY **** IT ACTUALLY WORKED :O Just hacked my Instagram account within ~ 30 mins of using the site. Just had to pay 15 $ but definitely worth the price :O Thank you so much, you saved my account!
Two thing I dont like is the windscreen feels so cheap with the tilt function, and mirrors. They vibrate like crasy. Test ride this bike 2017. Ended up with a Monster 821. 2020 I will buy a new bike. Im wondering if this get an upgrade, maybe R model. Otherwise the Yamaha MT 10 is great.
How does the SS compare to the Monster from a range perspective? Also, the headers on the Monster are one of its defining features, but they also sit nearly flush with your right leg. I would imagine that heat isn’t much fun in the summer. But haven’t ridden one enough to know. Thanks.
The heat from the header on the Monster isn’t that bad, not like you would think from where it looks. And that heat shield does work, but there definitely is some heat coming off it in the summer for sure. I’m just saying that wasn’t an issue for me that would make me get rid of it. In my case it was the lack of wind protection and the fact that I enjoy longer rides at higher speeds. So I’m done with naked bikes in general, not for me. As far as range, I would say they are very close. Within 10-20 miles of each other I think, but don’t remember exactly. The fuel tanks are pretty close in size. Bottom line is, if you want a Ducati and want to be reasonably comfortable for fun torquey street riding, a Monster or Supersport would be a great choice, but between them is the decision on distance riding. Meaning, if you want to ride longer, say a nice 500 mile day trip, you’ll be much happier on the Supersport because of the added wind protection. Wind beats you up more than anything on long rides. Thanks for watching!
Insurance was more than the Monster 821. I don’t remember exactly but maybe 30% more. I think this is probably due to the fact that the Supersport has fairings which are very expensive to replace.
nice vid, what type of exhaust would you have, the akrapovic slip on`s don`t sound much difference , and are expensive, unless you go for the akrapovic full system they sound amazing. My supersport has also gone in the garage ,as we get a lot of snow here in germany.
Temple800 You’re right, the Akra slip on apparently only increases the sound slightly, if at all. It’s mostly for looks and that’s why I skipped it. The full system is too expensive and I’m not convinced of the looks on this bike with that one. But I do know for sure that Termignoni is going to release a de-cat system (not full, uses stock headers to save money) with UpMap. They have revealed it at the current EICMA show. Hard to say how it’ll look on the bike, it was just hanging on a wall, but it will sit where the cat sits now and slightly resemble the underbelly exhaust like a Panigale has. This could be really great, just don’t know the price yet. SC-Project will also release something soon, but I don’t know if it’ll be just a slip on or de-cat as well. We should see these on their websites within a few weeks I think or sooner! If the price isn’t too crazy and the UpMap is done right, getting the Termi de-cat version could be ideal and should sound fantastic because it seems the cat is probably doing much or most of the baffling.
Wow this is awesome info, any pic of the Termi pipes? As a fellow Supersport 939 owner I'm glad I skipped the Akra slip-ons too, what a horrible value for 1300 USD and IMO sounds worse than the stock system. Gotta love the pops & crackles during off-throttle deceleration of the 939. I traded a 2018 Street Triple RS for the Ducati Supersport 939S, yet no regrets!!!
noiox8 Go to ducatisupersport939.net and find the latest “exhaust” post, you should be able to find some pictures of it from EICMA. Or, go to Termignoni’s Fakebook page and there’s a video from the show posted from a cell phone.
noiox8...You have never driven the akra slip ons...they sound almost the same as stock, not sure why you think they sound worse it the same just slightly louder (could also be louder due to mileage) ...I got the Akra slip on for the looks cause the originals with that sanded aluminum looked way too cheap for me on a bike like that and mounted them myself. Even if you run the bike without any slip ons at all (which I did) it doesn't sound that much louder or different. Almost no sound deadening going on after the main exhaust. Atm there is no road legal solution that also keeps your warranty to get the thing noticeably louder (in germany that is). I'm using the bike all day so I'm OK with the volume, just for a weekend racer it's obviously not loud enought.
Can you tell me more about the comparison between the two for a do-everything sporty highway-city-canyon bike. I've got to replace my Brutale 675 (stolen) and have pretty much narrowed it to the Supersport, the Street Triple or a slightly used Hyperstrada. I like the looks of the Supersport, the all-around functionality of the Hyperstrada and the high-revving but torquey engine and tech of the Triple.
I assume it has a dB killer in the exhaust cans rake them out and add staimless steel exhaust gauze in it to get the sound you want I do it on all my bikes
Patricia Richardson Most of the sound is killed in the big 15 pound catalytic converter itself though. So I’ve now replaced that whole thing with a Termignoni link pipe and muffler (cat delete). Sounds amazing now and their dyno tests claim +4 hp and 4 lb-ft
Patricia Richardson Check out my Instagram @il_mostro16 I will be posting many more pics there and some sound clips soon. Eventually will post a stock vs Termi video here
After 1500 miles of break in, finding neutral is very easy once the engine is fully warmed up. When cold it can still be tricky, but not when warm. Not an issue once you learn the feel of neutral. Also have to notice that the indicator might sometimes be off from the physical reality. I quickly developed a feel for this. It’s just a quirk and not a problem, the electronic sensor can be fooled when moving the shifter. Zero reliability issues however. No service repairs of any kind besides a super minor recall about a poorly routed gas overflow hose that had it too close to a header and could potentially melt it. The tech had this fixed in 10 minutes.
@@ilmostro16 Thanks, this is very helpful. I like the torque and sound of V-twins, Ducati's use of high-end brakes and shocks, and the well-engineered frames. Plus of course the beauty of the bikes. Was thinking of buying a Triumph Street Triple, but I realized I might be better off with some wind protection. Wish this one was a little lighter weight though. One more question: I've seen other reviews on the Ducati Supersport where the handlebars turned all the way to the fairing and could smash the driver's hands if they were not careful. Did you experience this?
paolo nicoletta I initially used the mirror block off covers from New Rage Cycle (NRC) that I ordered together with the front LED turn signals... but after a short while I decided I no longer liked them and find just leaving the small holes as they are better looking. So right now I have no mirror block offs and just put a small rubber nipple over the visible screw inside the holes. I’ll try to show this off in a future video. Or check out my Instagram @il_mostro16
I have a Diavel and it beats me up after 250 Miles or so, was considering the SS or the multi. I am 6’3 and adventure bikes put me up high in the wind. Would you get this or the multi?
Peter Steele Hmm good question. I’m about 6’ and feel very comfortable on the SS. A Multi would be even more comfortable and provide as much or more wind protection, which is really going to help on the longer rides. Assuming price isn’t a factor, I think the question would come down to how you want to ride, how far? I still want an adventure type bike (Multi or GS) for the really long rides. I don’t really want to put panniers on this SS because for 500 mile rides I don’t need boxes and my OGIO backpack is enough. For more than that, like 600+ mile trips to other states where I’d stay overnight and all, I think I’d still want an adventure bike. Ideally I’d have both but I can’t afford that right now, maybe someday. If you’re into sport riding and are mostly going under 500 mile trips, I’d do the SS. If you want to do Multi-state rides, 2+ Days at a time type stuff, go Adventure bike with boxes and cruise control and heated grips etc. If I do some huge trip now, I’d probably rent a GS or Multi. I love the SS and it’s not the perfect touring bike, but it’s definitely better than a naked for longer rides for sure.
Peter Steele I would have to ride a Multi again. It’s been at least a year since I rode one (a friend’s), so I can’t remember. Possibly because it wasn’t a big issue. What I do remember is feeling very high up and cross winds would be a little annoying or even scary since I wasn’t used to it. I recommend hitting your nearest Ducati dealer (hopefully you have one) and demo riding both on the fastest road you can get to in a reasonable amount of time. For instance, the final demo ride that sold me on the SSS consisted of me taking it on all 3 major types of riding - slow hot light to light city; nice back roads; and high speed windy expressway. I wanted to feel everything on it and I got back and was sold. But if a Multi is on your list, I say do that for both bikes before you buy.
That’s easy, 5 reasons, and this applies to me and my needs, not a universal case: 1) much more comfortable, I have a bad lower back and minor knee issues. 2) don’t need Panigale level of performance for the street to have a blast. 3) seat doesn’t get as hot. 4) it’s cheaper and still delivers the thrills. 5) see #1. 😁
ducati sport Correct. It’s referred to as the Supersport 939 however. Much like the Monster 1200 isn’t 1200cc’s either, it’s 1198cc’s, and a KTM Superduke 1290 is 1301cc’s, a Yamaha R1 actually is 998cc’s.
Just did the same! Traded in my 821 for the SS,,,, haven't missed it one bit,,, just love the way it handles!
John Alexander Cheers! 🍻
I did not trade my Monster 821 Dust Grey...I added the SuperSport S to my collection!! They both rock!
Dr. Gonzales OH DAMN!
After test riding the SuperSport quite a few times and riding a monster 1200r, it’s clear to see why you changed. The SuperSport is an amazing bike.
I love it! Sure it could be improved with a little more power but it's so much fun the way it is.
I vote for the Supersport S also, driven the 2017 Monster S I loved everything about it apart from the driving position. Matter of Taste but I'm really happy with the SS.
Rode in the snow last week on my desert sled so don't let a bit of chill put you off riding. Good video
That windscreen is a lifesaver
Hi from NW subs . Really enjoyed your video, liked&subbed. I'm a new rider and always wanted a Monster but went with the queen of smoothness ST3 675. Love it so far but that Supersport looks amazing !
You got yourself a great bike, enjoy!
Nice vid, the "term" exhaust for that bike is awesome! I tested the Kia stinger gt v6 awd...for the money it is awesome as well.
Your bike definitely looks better without the stock mirrors. We may get a 60 degree weather here in the Windy City in December.
I own a Monster 821, and the SuperSport S is very likely my next bike. A friend just bought a SuperSport and loves it! The fairings, quickshifter/autoblipper, and Ohlins are exactly the three things I want changed from my Monster 821 experience. Enjoy!
Who was that chooch bag cheering in the beginning?! Nice explanation, also get some pipes. That bike sounds like my grama’s vespa 😅
Time to upgrade my friend
Good point about lane splitting at traffic lights.
Tuesdaysgonewtw Right? That's not even asking for moving lane splitting. It's asking very little and totally a safety issue, just to let the bike be first at the line and not surrounded by texting car drivers after the green. Gotta get some petition going or something.
I agree 100% but it may be a little too complex in certain circumstances which might make it a tough sell.
Glad I found your channel, just subscribed
On my test ride I thought there was quite a bit of vibes through the bars. I kept it around 3-4k which was nice enough. But I didn't feel like I would cruise at those mid level rpms. Really loved the bike, though. Comfy, fun, powerful. Exactly what I expected. Perfect really.
Neil Devine Yeah under 4K is kinda slow for this engine. I cruise around 4500-5000 and it’s perfect.
In 2018 expect to see more Ducati (and others?) demo ride/reviews.
Im looking forward to buy the same bike, do you have any probleme with it so far?
Mike Parry LOL, I’ll work on that
Kevin Boulay None. Sometimes I’ll get a false neutral between 5th and 6th, but that’s not uncommon on many bikes. Have to click the shifter very deliberately from 5th to 6th. Otherwise zero problems. according to the specs the super sport s will probably perform similar to the monster 1100evo, only with a full fairing and more upright sitting.
BTW, the great turning ability may be in part because the Rosso III tires are amazing. I got some recently to replace the Rosso IIs that came with my 821, and they are so much better. I know the SuperSport comes with the IIIs.

I’m contemplating making this same move.
Im actually looking at the Supesport S or the 1260 Multistrada...difficult!
Typical Swedish Biker Yes. If you think you’ll do more rides under 400 miles, and want a more sporty ride/look, I’d think the SSS would fit better. If you think you’ll do more rides over 400 miles, or many, I’d go with the Multi.

@Derek Rodney no problem xD
Can you please provide a link for the handlebar mirrors and the turn signal kit?
Finally, could you list the mods and manufacturers for what you have done to the bike so far in the information section above? Thanks!
Steve Parry I do list all the mods so far (add CRG mirrors) in my other “New Bike Reveal” video. Thanks for watching!
still like the bike? trying to decide between this and a street triple RS
Same for me. But now in 2024 😅
U coukd get an extra large windscreen for the monster...it really makes a difference!

Insurance was more than the Monster 821. I don’t remember exactly but maybe 30% more. I think this is probably due to the fact that the Supersport has fairings which are very expensive to replace.

Filtering in the UK is legal that is the benefit of owner a motorbike.
I know, it’s good. I see it when I watch Baron Von Grumble. 😃
I see you replaced the buzzing mirrors. Any problems finding neutral on this Ducati? Any quirks or lack of reliability?
Did you experience this?
you're story is my story too
that seems like a much more protective windshield than the original one.. right? which brand is it?
Ducati “touring” windscreen. I liked it. 👍
@@ilmostro16 thank you!
Trading in my 696 monster for 2017 Supersport S next week.
Great upgrade, you’ll love it!
IL MOSTRO thanks, im way too excited
I am sorry didn't understand what type of block off mirror u got
paolo nicoletta I initially used the mirror block off covers from New Rage Cycle (NRC) that I ordered together with the front LED turn signals... but after a short while I decided I no longer liked them and find just leaving the small holes as they are better looking. So right now I have no mirror block offs and just put a small rubber nipple over the visible screw inside the holes. I’ll try to show this off in a future video. Or check out my Instagram @il_mostro16
ok waiting for it
I have a Diavel and it beats me up after 250 Miles or so, was considering the SS or the multi.
IL MOSTRO do you find more helmet buffeting on the multi then SS
Peter Steele considering your height, you should go for multi if the looks are not your scene.
In all Europe you can ride legally between the cars…in US things are against bikers that’s for sure
il mostro , are you italian or just you liked the word ?
lyrasimo Not Italian but my first Italian motorcycle was a Monster, and it’s the reason I’m a “born again” motorcyclist 😉

Why Supersport and not panigale ?
That’s easy, 5 reasons, and this applies to me and my needs, not a universal case:
1) much more comfortable, I have a bad lower back and minor knee issues.
2) don’t need Panigale level of performance for the street to have a blast.
3) seat doesn’t get as hot.
4) it’s cheaper and still delivers the thrills.
5) see #1. 😁
its a 937cc not a 939
ducati sport Correct. It’s referred to as the Supersport 939 however. Much like the Monster 1200 isn’t 1200cc’s either, it’s 1198cc’s, and a KTM Superduke 1290 is 1301cc’s, a Yamaha R1 actually is 998cc’s.
