- Ever wondered what all the lights on a Makita charger can mean? Well, we have you covered, we have got three different Makita battery chargers and go through the indicator lights on all of them.

Good as they are, these have to be the only battery chargers that require a tutorial if you want to decrypt the display.
😂
Thanks mate! I just bought the driller with dc18sd charger and my first impression after connecting both included batteries was that something is wrong with either charger or batteries as I only got red solid light. The included manual do not explain how the light behaves, I thought that there is diode under each coloured circle and you showed that there are only two diodes and circles beside markings are just a legend. You saved me from going back to Castorama tomorrow and asking stupid questions :). Cheers.
Great video. Right to the point with a great hint about what to do if you get red and yellow at the same time.
Great video! Thanks to people like you things are getting easier. Keep up the good work!😊
Happy to help!
My wife was about to buy a new charger, until we watched this vid! Thx
Thank you! This video was very helpful.
Excellent - just what I needed to know!
Glad it was helpful!
What about a green and red light flashing back and fore?
I can’t find an answer to this
So I opened my charger up and there was a white two pin connector that had become unplugged to the left of the main yellow plug that that battery connects to. I pushed it back in, put it back together and no green to red lights. Hopefully you have a similar find.
What is that last battery charger? I love how small it is. Where could I get one?
Ive tried to charge mine, but I’m getting kind of a double red flash every couple seconds at the side of the I think it’s a key symbol on the charger. Any idea?
Thanks, good job.
A good solid informative video.
gonna sub you
What does it mean if you got flashing red and green light
Thanks!
Great video
Thanks!
Perfect video!
Thank you!
Thanks for the simple guide, i forget things easy or the icons don't make sense.
Glad it helped!
Hey just bought a battery and charger (the middle one) and the light isn't turning from red to green even tho it's been charging a couple of hours. 4 reds on the battery itself but charger not turning green. Fault with battery ?
That’s the issue I’m having rn and I just bought them today I might just return it tomorrow
Mine charges for a while then flashes red green what does that mean
Y is it heated so much plus I smell the plastic burn smell and so stopped after the light just showed in 2nd step which it needed for 3rd step light to be fully charged?smell not normal? That middle one charger.
I'd suggest getting a new charger or trying the battery on a different charging station
Thanks bro
No problem
My charger always shows a solid red light but the battery seems to charge fine, any idea on why this is so?
Same thing happens to me sometime! I just leave it in for over an hour and if the light is still red, take the battery out and look at the battery "charge" condition! OR get a digital multimeter, set it to 20 amps and take a manual reading (using red lead on positive and black on negative {clearly marked on the battery's terminals})...and thus you should know where you stand! I buy most tools from either Amazon or Home Despot and they will usually replace with a receipt if under a year from purchase. Otherwise, Makita's warranty is usually 3 years, though I've never had to return anything but I'm a DYI multifamily homeowner with two vehicles so, I'm relatively easy on my tools!
Bruv you didn't even go over all the combos of lights indicated. I waited through the whole video for bubkiss. What does it mean when red and green lights alternate flashing?
I somehow missed that one! Flashing red and green is the battery error light. It means either your battery or charger is broken, the best way to find out is to try the battery in a different charger or try a different battery in the same charger - this will let you know whether it is the battery or charger that's broken.
Thanks. Wish they just said so next to the light so I wouldn't have to be here right now sheeesh
Yes, that would make more sense!
Friend - Congratulations on the video - My MAKITA DC18RA charger burst components and I don't know the code to buy - They are the IC PWM with 4 pins on one side and 3 pins on the other position IC-1 - And the other one is likely a transistor in position IC -4 which is close to the (smaller) TR2 transformer -------- IT WILL HELP A LOT TO KNOW THE CODES OF THESE TWO COMPONENTS SO THAT I CAN REPAIR THE CHARGER - I appreciate your attention - Thank you
How did he know the lights were going to change? must be hacking
That isn't all. What about flashing left to right?
Do you mean the red and green lights flashing? I did one on that here after I realised I missed it out! > th-cam.com/video/J3hfv4LFHKA/w-d-xo.html
@@TheBlokeCave on the battery itself, if you press the charge level indicatorthe two left and two right lights will alternately flash back and forth. If you put the battery in the charger the red and green will do the same and the charger will beep.
@@billmalec yep, just happened to one of my batteries - which had previously only been charging to 3 lights?
@@armandine2 I haven't found a reference to it yet.
