I already own an X3 and it is awesome to be able to shoot in 360 degrees and the footage is quite good. I could not justify an extra $100 to buy the X4 for 8k and limited improvements over the X3.
Imagine if you had used a 360 camera for this video; you could have shown us the guy driving with the open trunk and all the other cars passing by. I agree that for single lens videos, the 360 camera might not give you the best image quality. However, the quality is still good and it certainly has the potential to transform an average video into something more entertaining.

I had the X3 but sold it to buy the X4 because of the resolution bump. I wasnt happy with the X3 360 degree quality. I had to use AI to make it decent. After co0mplaining to insta360 support for a week I decided to buy the x4 anyways because its the best option I can buy and I want 360 video. I got the camera today and I am going to make a video and compare it to what I recorded with the x3.. My 360 footage is all 360degree where people can move the video with the phone of mouse. I have some uploaded but I have it private for now because I was testing it and ppl dont want to see that..
People Like you misleading people. If you want a shit, Buy mobile Phone. If you want serious Photography, go for Medium Format Like Fuji GFX100. If you want to record your Sporty Actions, Go for Action Cam like whatever. But Don't blame insta360 X4. It is for some incredible actions which is not for your cup of tea, but that does not mean insta360 X4 is bad. It is an excellent camera.
Where did I say it's bad?
Phones got 1 inch sensors for a while. The producers of these companies are making deals with influences to sell trash instead of improving their cameras and providing value. Insta360 x4 has terrible sensors. whats the point of having 8K while you don't have the sensor to match it. It's 2024 and their cameras tend to overheat in 15-20 minutes. It would be okay maybe in 1924 but not in 2024. Give people at least 1 inch sensors and solve the damn heating problem. If some big player comes into the action camera market they will wipe them all out. The pocket 3 has finally a 1 inch sensor but the field of view is too narrow for my taste, it's fragile and there's no weather+water+dust proofing. If some company comes up with something like the insta360 x4 but with at least 1 inch sensors, that would probably my go to action cam for outdoors.
I do agree. I'm looking at those action cameras, and they still are toys to me. I wish we had one manufacturer who would actually use M4/3 or APS-C sensors.
