- In this video, we headed over to Yum Cha at Chinatown for their high tea Dim Sum buffet!
Their high tea buffet starts at 3pm all the way till 6pm, with a 90 minutes time limit.
Had to say I'm very impressed by the quality and spread there at Yum Cha for a $28 buffet. Wouldn't say its the best place to have dim sum, but definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a dim sum all you can eat.

Can't believe the management came up and suddenly stating no filming allowed when the camera, lights were setup even before food is served. They don't like free publicity it seems. They even need to disturb next table uncle to cross-check. Probably good to have written consent in future to protect self.

I have not had buffet for years since it is not cheap and a simple meal is enough to feed me. Whereas for buffet I needed to eat way much more than usual to make it worthwhile and often ended up feeling overstuffed. But this is one buffet that I will keep in my checklist and hopefully I have the opportunity to try it soon.

Yum Cha's Dim sum standard is quite good that i agreed but that restaurant management should understand that a Buffet is set up for the purpose of meaning all you can eat usually at non-peak hours and/or a time given...and it should be for all, regardless whether you are a big eater or a small eater. A restaurant shouldn't have a buffet menu if they are afraid of their customer eating more than what they are paying for...hehe. Kudos to Zermatt for destroying their buffet~ Don't worry bro, there is still other places of Dim sum buffet for filming haha

i 100% agree the tough ones are the fried foods but I would still go for the prawn fritters with mango, the yam ball and the red bean with banana! Their dim sum are great! And yes! siew mai, ha gow, egg tart and char siew bao is a must for dim sum! If i can eat even 30% of Zermatt's quota, it's already an accomplishment.

Think if one can finished 5 ~ 6 of the dim sum (and more), it's worth to go for the buffet. Just have to wait till the weekday high tea timing.

When I eat dim sum, I am quite particular of the egg tarts standard. Can you share with me do they taste buttery and flaky? The fried dim sum sounded delicious when you had the first bite LOL 😆 Now makes me wanna go eat Yum Cha anytime soon.
Not the best, the middle ain't custardy enough and the pastry are not that brittle if you get what I mean haha. But not too bad
Their normal dim sums are ok. Not many shops can do good egg tarts as you need a skilled Chinese pastry chef to do it. Not many of those around anymore.

Zermmat neo- Restaurant is trying to earn a living. To have profit to pay staff , operations cost , rent. Fuckers like u , at least pay for 8 person to eat to break even and u can still show off.
For any restaurants that can offer buffet in their menu,the management should have factored in that there might be an odd few who can ‘destroy’ the buffet and not be sore about it. Nonetheless , from what Zermatt shares , this place seems to have good value for money and I am keen to try!
Highly recommend this place if you got some serious cravings and can slam a lot lol

I just went on Friday. It's really value for money. The dessert also got many variety. I went to peach garden high tea dim sum buffet last month. Not worth it. Limited choices and not yummy. More expensive too. Yum cha buffet is very nice. Huge crowd on Friday.

You know why some management are so concern?
All of them are just salary paid workers. The owner probably is not around. So, although there was permission given earlier but they most probably do not know who Zermatt was. When suddenly you have camera setup and lighting involve, management will have to reaffirm it is ok with the other guests close by. This is part of their service and responsibility. If patrons complain because of camera and lighting setup, blame who? Yeah, not Zermatt and his crew but the staff who agreed to it. Even if you explain to them there will be lighting involve with camera, they will still need to make sure whoever is close by is ok with it. You all forget har? Singaporeans are No.1 Complain Kings. Anytime, people will turn their backs on you! We are in a restaurant eating and if there are elements not related to them, something bad might happen. Studio lights can be a little bright and camera setup may scare some patrons as not everyone is OK with it.
And if their boss hears customers complains (which is something they dislike most) - manager and the rest of the staffs will kena also. At the end of the day, they might totally ban camera and lighting setup like Zermatt's crew did. As to them it maybe a bad publicity when other customers gives negative comment.
Not every restaurants are hard up for publicity. If anyone wants to do it, there are few steps involve. Food bloggers are great influential but if they do not follow the proper way, restaurants will ban food bloggers in the near future. Why I know this? I am in the media industry and there are dos and don'ts. Zermatt is a great influential foodie and his coverage pretty good. Most of the time, I believe he will ask permission from the restaurants and they are usually ok with it as some restaurants do need extra coverage. Plus, Zermatt still pays for all his outing unless sponsored by the restaurant. So it's a win win for both parties.
Yum Cha is an old school style of restaurant and you can see usually aunties and uncles working there. So, they go by the old ways which is to take care of their customers first. In short, they kaypoh a bit for the sake of kaypohing lar. I have been many times to Yum Cha. Food is decent and affordable. Don't expect Tunglok or Paradise Restaurants service but you don't have to pay a bomb. Plus you confirm won't see XMM serving Siew Mai and Phoenix Claws. Hahaha.
Restaurants who serve buffets are NOT afraid of someone like Zermatt eating so much as he is 1 in 1000 that is able to eat so much. Please do not get the wrong idea. Do not assume that they will delay or not willing to serve. Restaurants have their own reputation too.
For everyone's info, I m not in anyway connected with Yum Cha Restaurant or part of their management. Speaking from a media POV as it takes just ONE BAD EGG to spoil the cake. Publicity is a double edge sword and if not handle properly.......the restaurant might even close down.
Sure. But the management should have stopped the filming and lighting setup from the start isnt it ? They stopped him only in midst of meal (after multiple rounds of ordering which also imply it took them so long to realise?)
If it was a customer complaint, the management staff wouldnt even need to check-in with the uncle beside. He could have just stated clearly that some patrons (no need to pinpoint who for privacy) are not comfortable.
@@cw7502 Who would have the balls to take the first step to approach? Uncles and aunties are afraid to lose their jobs and they are not responsible for it as they are only service staff. Only a manager have to do the dirty job after uncles and aunties feedback to him. That’s my guess as service staff will never approach them. It could also because the restaurant is getting busier? So, best for them not to overlook and ask the patron beside that it is ok? I highly doubt it will take long for them to realise but I am am guessing it probably was not busy when Zermatt started recording.
Do remember, when any restaurants are in operation, they still have every right to stop the recording even if there was consent given. Priority is to paying patrons. As I said earlier, they are probably not hard up for coverage as their job is to serve customers. Owner maybe in favour but if they are not around, no one will dare to take full responsibility if something happen.
The manager probably took on that role to be responsible for Zermatt. If anything happens, his neck will be on the chopping board. Which is why after speaking with Zermatt, the rest of service staffs probably was assured by their manager.
Again, restaurant will ask paying patrons if they are ok with it as it’s their role and responsible. Reason for them to sit next to Zermatt? Well….maybe the restaurant is running full? That’s just my guess. There is also another reason is maybe they did not expect Zermatt to take longer than usual? So I believe the manage have to make sure the nearby patrons are ok with it.
I have friends who runs cafes and restaurants. So I know behind the scene.
Only Zermatt can fully clarify our doubts but don’t bash a restaurant so early because of one small incident which none of us are there to witness it. We can only assume otherwise.
See what I mean by bad media coverage? It’s a double edge sword. You can scroll down the comments and many assume restaurant management did the wrong thing by interrupting the recording. Management have every right to stop any forms of recording if they deem unfit so. They don’t have to explain to you but if they need to come up with a reason, it will be this is a private place and you are disturbing their guests.
Manager is professional enough not to turn things ugly. Remember, you are in their premises. They can turn the tables if they need to but they won’t because they know what they need to do. Which was to approach Zermatt and the patrons sitting beside him to clarify the situation. Never assume otherwise everyone is ok with it.
To some people, filming could be just a mobile phone. So, I am not sure if Zermatt and his crew have clarify with the management in the first place about it.
Anyway I can keep on explaining but if you don’t get my point in my original post, means you did not catch what I was trying to convey.
It is really simple. No complain, nobody KPKB, no need to intervene, no need to create problems. Nobody complained. Filming etc are just excuses because the kitchen was overwhelmed. Imagine they have other customers, but they have to constantly keep up with Zermatt's order. They rather make Zermatt unhappy and leave rather than potentially 10 other customers unhappy because they waited too long for their food. Let's be real, it's miscommunication between management and staff.
Yes sir, I had to agree with ya, they are actually v accommodating and tailor to most of my needs (warm water, corner table etc)
I guess the restaurant manager just needs to do her job in case sh*t happens. She came by and question us but she didn't stop the shoot actually.

Oh yes this place. In fact this was the very first dimsum buffet i ever had almost a decade ago. And back then they didnt have 90mins limit haha. Usually ate until i comatised 😂
