My younger brother was in the U.S.Army and stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. I visited him in the early 80s while he lived off base in a small building on the way to Ramsey Canyon. He shared the building with a few other soldiers stationed at the fort. My brother wanted to enjoy some special time with his older brother. We chose to walk through a portion of the canyon with some of his friends. The paved lane ended before passing a charming house with a lovely garden which had several hummingbird feeders on the property. To reach the canyon we walked through a portion of their property before entering a narrow portion of the canyon. I wonder if the buildings are still there. I remember the canyon was very narrow in which a stream ran through it. My brother told me that at the top of the canyon was an old ghost town which I believe he visited. We didn't have time to walk that far into the canyon. I understand that 15 species of hummingbirds have been spotted at Ramsey Canyon. I was told that Ramsey Canyon may be the hummingbird capitol of North America. A few years past when I purchased a copy of Backpacker Magazine. I was surprised to read an article about scorpions. The author had an ultra-violet light with him and shown the light on the walls of the canyon in the evening. He said it was as if the walls of the canyon had stars on them. I am glad I didn't see any scorpions while I walked with my brother and his friends. I have good memories of a past adventure in Ramsey Canyon.
Here is a video I made recently of the drive to Montezuma's Pass in Coronado National Monument just a few miles down the road, also in the Huachuca Mountains th-cam.com/video/3aBgWpnKSXA/w-d-xo.html
