5-cylinder is actually an ideal configuration to reduce vibration. Great deal. Here in San Jose California, used cars are selling at an all time premium due to shortage of cars.
Here in SoCal, i mostly see professionals driving Volvo’s. There’s a Swedish Auto clinic near where I live and I see Volvo’s and Saab’s from various vintages being dropped of for maintenance and they all look like they are very well taken care of.
I beg to differ. My 4 cylinder Camry ( With 448 K miles) Is far more reliable than any 5 cylinder, Gets better gas mileage, And is so smooth that it was always getting compared compared with its more more expensive V6 Lexus ES cousin. Sure it takes Just under 9 seconds to reach 60MPH but I've gotten enough speeding tickets in the 20 years I've had her And she has no problems keeping up with my fellow kamikaze julios bullios down here in Miami.
One of the best european cars. That 5 cilinder is one of the best engines out there. Incredibly fast. The plastic bumpers are there because of gravel roads in Sweden and Denmark. This car was a police car in europe. Doing 250 klm/hour
Those 04's are great! The 2.5T is a great engine. That Brake pedal sensor is in the Brake booster! It measures how much the pedal is depressed for the ABS system, doesn't have anything to do with the Brake lights, and it will cause the ABS light to come on. I've changed many of those. the Siren code means the battery in the alarm in the right front fender is dead or dying. They're great cars.
Love the Volvo XC70 units. Bought an 840 a while back at 317000 miles and was at 354000 when I put it under a semi during a snow storm. Insurance company called 6 times to validate the mileage as there was no rust or body damage prior to the accident Volvo - best car to have, no matter how many miles on it
Yeah I like it when he was rebuilding the cars that's all I got into watching him was with the Corvette swamp that or whatever it was and then there was the mustang that the white one that he painted it red . But Randy did work on the 57 Plymouth to four-door the Christina looking one he did work on that a little bit he did get her up and running had to fix a leaky transmission. I like the videos when him and TK get together and go cruising around and the one time they almost got hit by a deer that was a good one okay what the heck they were driving a cavalier or some crap like that. Or is that Mitsubishi Colt thing station wagon whatever the hell that was. But yes I dig the Volvo very much I like it
One thing that should be considered as regular maintenance on Volvos is PCV system. My mechanic told me he charges around 200-300 USD for it but it doesn't have to be done very often. Probably as often as the timing belt or less often depending on how well you keep the oil changed.
That is a steal. Old volvos will last forever. That 5 cylinder is an awesome engine. The black bumpers are for a more rugged off road appearance. I am sure the owner replaced it with a Volvo
might be a steal, but many of these at this mileage start to need a lot including the trans which shows its herking/jerking only when quite warm. Rack, burnt valves, suspension, and sundry
The code for the siren is a dead battery in the alarmsiren. The siren is placed in the right front of the car behind the plastic fendercover . Removed the siren and replace the battery. Common issue with these Volvo's are problems with the CEM computer. And the ABS computer ass well.
Randy, the reason why the colour between the bumpers and bodywork is evident is because this was VOLVOs 1st estate into the 4WD territory, it was to show the difference between the normal estate to the off road element. it wasn't because they were being cheap.
Volvos are awesome! My mom has a 2005 XC70 with 200k miles, and it's the most reliable car my family has ever had. Great cars, super tough, and amazing at snow!
Absolutely. I own an 06 XC 90. You are lucky that the timing belt is replaced. The ONLY downside is EVERYTHING is controlled by "proprietary software" meaning you can't pull parts (electrical) from another car. IT HAS TO BE BRAND NEW. I would tell the next owner to take it to Volvo dealer for a trans service. Quickie lube goons don't know that they take "special Volvo trans fluid" Other than that it sounds like a great driver.
All that black plastic is specific to the XC70. The V70 2 wheel drive wagon has body coloured front panel. That 5 cylinder engine has a great reputation for power and reliability.
My sister has this same car. Hers has 300k on it now. One of the best cars ever made. I’ve had several of the S60 (sedan version) with this same engine…great buy. Awesome car.
I have a buddy who bought this exact car new in 2003 and he drove it all over for work and just turned over 400k last year during covid. His has a few issues and I think he has semi retired it now but still drives it occasionally, pretty bullet proof cars!
My family had a 2006 version of this car, which has been given to my brother. Great car, particularly if you live somewhere it snows. It is a sold car and that 5 cylinder engine is turbo which makes it fun.
I’d buy that for $1100 in a heartbeat!!! That would be my third XC70 😆. Although definitely not easy or cheap to work on lol. Reason the tailgate won’t open (I believe) is the pin that pivots in the handle has slid off center, and handle doesn’t depress far enough to unlatch
I bought a 1999 AWD Volvo XC70 w/ 225,000 miles 5 years ago. Basically, the same situation as you, although I paid 2x as much as you. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. No problems, I haven't even had to change a bulb yet. It has been a great vehicle. They are awesome in the snow.
Looks like you didn't loose your great-deal-spidey-sense. And if you liked the Volvo 5 cyl; You should get an Audi 5 cyl. The Audi one sounds so amazing. My dad had an Audi 100 with the 2.3E, which was a fuel injected 5 cyl.
Love those Older Volvo wagons. I see them quite a lot and they run for a really long time. Good deal on that plus in pretty nice shape. Great video as always Randy.👍
Nice xc70! I have a xc90 with the same engine. People assume these cars are slow, but they are sadly mistaken when they see my license plate passing them. Lol, these are great cars, the 2.5 T is practically a bullet proof engine as long as you maintain a regular maintenance schedule. I've seen them with over 300,000 miles or more, the Sweds make a reliable and very safe vehicle. 👍
That car is a steal. I have an 08 xc 70 same color and interior. That car has more value than you think, 04 xc 70 goes for $3500 to 4500 depending on mileage and condition Keep it and you will be pleased. It will give good service for years.
We have one in the garage that we use to travel home to Ohio in! We love ours and it is amazing!! I have always said that the AMC Eagle was the prelude to this car. Great buy Randy! Bravo and kudos to you!
I bought one of these a few years back from a salvage auction for AU$475. Ran perfectly but just needed a couple of cosmetic bits and a set of beefy all terrain tyres. Loved it and now regret getting rid of it. Made a couple grand selling it, though.
That was a very good deal for the Volvo. You are correct to say that the car is not really attractive but that is not why folks bought them. They bought them knowing that it is the perfect car for bad weather and snow. If I had to pick your truck or that Volvo for a snowy drive, i would choose the Volvo as it will probably be better in the snow due to the weight distribution.
Good to see a Volvo on the channel the 5 cylinder engine is a good unit makes nice sounds .I have a 04 C70 convertible 2.0 5 cylinder turbo manual and its a epic car so we'll put together even has real carbon fibre dash trim . XC70 here in UK are selling for silly money and it's very difficult to find a good cheap ones
I have an 06 V70 D5, 169K miles, I bought it on the back of my friends 06 V70 D5 which has 390K miles, his has never had a clutch (manual) nor an exhaust, he's owned it from new. fantastic cars.
I have an ‘04 XC70 I bought for $300 because a mechanic told them it was blown up. It just needed two coils. Aside from that, and the windows and sunroof breaking, it’s been pretty solid.
I love my '06 V70. It's comfortable, solid, tow's double any other sedan/wagon, got enough power, has an excellent all wheel drive system for the snow and doesn't rust. But Volvos don't suffer neglect or they will cost you big time. They highlight the distinction between reliability and durability. Looks like you got a bit of a cream puff there. I'd hang on to it.
That brake warning is normal volvo.. the computer module gets wet abd messes up the pins.. my 05 had the same thing. Had to send ecu to Canada to get it repaired nit a cheap fix but did the job no issues..
I have two P2 chassis Volvos with the 2.5T...excellent drivetrain. Pretty easy to replace the Brake Pedal Position Sensor, OE about $80, Volvo - about $140 (FCP Euro). The siren issue is described in another thread here...battery is dead in the alarm...inner fender accessible...not bad, but not always fun. Good Luck...love the Volvo content.
Honestly it doesn't need a full fresh paint, i would fix & upgrade bulbs on both front lights, turn signals and fog lights with something fresh, check out replace & fix the brakes, fix the rear bumper, fix the rear latch to open the rear door and add 4 fresh all-season / all-terain BF-Goodrich tires on it and that would be it.. is a cool 4x4 cross-over wagon !
A good all-round car. AWD and fairly high ground clearance. Plenty of room for everything you want to bring with you. Nice interior with full leather. Fairly quick. Great safety. I like the design including the black bumpers. Makes it look sturdy. In Sweden they used to be common as police cars. Some of the newer version XC70 are still around. Today they often have the V90 Cross Country.
The abs modules on the 90s and the early 2000s get cracked points on the module board and you can re Sauder them if you have the skill but that issue causes the abs light to be on and for the codes to pop up and in severe cases makes ur speedometer work on and off a abs module rebuild online is $80
I've always been a true believer even with myself that when you're kind to others it always comes back to you I think that's the reason why you've been really lucking out on all these cars lately😁
Nice find randy! I just got a steal. 2004 Honda Pilot for $2,200. Runs drives great. Motor super clean cold ac, hot heat. Heated seats work too. Just need some shocks and a few gaskets and its running like new. Oh and it has 258,000 miles on it
I have an 02 s80 T, twin turbo straight six and I don't think of it as a beater at all. It only has 168,000 miles on it and it feels like a luxury car. Yes, it has a few groans and creaks but it can go 90 all day on the highway (I don't do that, but it seems it could), it rolls down the road like a lux car. It's not the latest/greatest but I recently test drove a brand new Polestar 2 (an electric, rebadged Volvo) and while that felt new and next-gen, it didn't make my car feel like a dinosaur (well the EV part of it did, but not the general feel of the car). This wagon looks pretty good, could use some work on the leather and vinyl inside and the back door and bumper need fixing but inside, it looks pretty good. It has plenty of life in it.
Never seen a Volvo until now actually really like that car looks good and love the way it looks inside the off road look to it as well wish I could buy it lol keep up the great content
Bang on the money for one of those but in the Uk there even cheaper I’ve had one previously I payed 300 pounds for did no work to it it passed inspection which we call mot here and I ran it for a year
Another score for you Randy. I have had a couple XC70’s (04 and 07). From my experience they are great vehicles. The good ones seem to be as dependable as an axe and run forever…however when they are problematic particularly electrical or module issues they can be a nightmare. Hopefully you got a good one and can pass it onto someone who’s in need of a dependable inexpensive car. The 3rd row seat is a fairly rare option on those.
Hello from France. An XC70 can have problems with the torsen if not well maintain (swapping regularly front and back tires) otherwise it's a wonderful car. The modular IL5 is one of the best engine ever made.
I have a UK 2.4 diesel 2004 exactly as yours, really cheap low miles and bomb proof. The brake pedal position sensor message also is lit and also ignored! This should keep going for years... Please dont junk/break up.
I bought one of these cars a couple years ago for about the same price. The rear hatch was seized up on mine too but I crawled inside, pried back the trim enough to spring the latch by hand, then all I had to do was take the trim off and lubricate the mechanism.
A lot of error codes and messages get thrown up when the battery voltage gets low. Sometimes (UK model anyway) when you start the car, run it a few miles to charge the battery up then turn off and re-start, the error codes and messages vanish. We've got a 2004 V70 auto in the family, bought new by my late father (Was promised to me around 2012 but it never happened) and it's now with one of my daughters. It's not been totally trouble-free but then dad didn't look after it very well, but it is 17 years old today (from date of first registration)
Randy man. Your a good ol boy and there just ain't enough like ya left man. Not even anything particular about this video I just thoroughly enjoy your whole demeanor . I hope your as cool in real life as you are to me here. 🖤
I used to have that same Volvo XC70. It's a nice car. The Dash will need to be rebuilt sometime in that car's life. You will need to bring it in for suspension servicing. Suspension servicing is expensive, it usually cost me 1500 to 2K. My wife's started to leak rain through the windshield and needed to have suspension servicing. Instead of doing all that I bought a 07 Hyundia Elantra from my buddy's 95 year old mother that has 50K on the clock and 0K on the new engine in it, for 2500. I bet dollars to doughnuts that Hyundia will be cheaper to keep on the road than that Volvo.
@@grandpaswheelchair5997 The Dashboard rebuild only cost me 99 dollars from a local guy. Good to know. The thing that made me sell my car to IAA was the car was filling up with water after every hard rain storm and the suspension started to rattle and squeak and I just didn't want to put another 2k into the car. 2K for the suspension overhaul and 250 for the windshield leak and that was almost as much as I spend on the Hyundai Elantra. I have sent the Hyundai out for it's yearly service work last winter and that cost me a total of 150 dollars.
@@pebear that Hyundai will never be even close to that volvo as far as safety tho. Sounds like your sunroof drains needed to be cleared out. And that Elantra will eventually need suspension work too 😬 I’m pretty partial to Volvos though…
Brake light is probably the module. They had problems with them since the 90s. There is a place in Michigan that refurbish them but I'm not sure if they do ccm that new.
I had an 03 it ran great but there was something wrong with the driveshaft that I couldn't figure out mine had over 200k as well they look almost identical
Man I’ve had a couple of these and they have always been great cars! The last one I owned was a 2006 just like this one here with the same mileage. I got it for 1000 bucks at Auction and I’ve course it had the ABS light on and the check engine light on I kept it for two years with those lights on no issues and sold the car for 2700 bucks about three years ago
It's an insurance car as the body cladding is NLA from Volvo and can be hard to find second hand. My moms XC was originally totaled for a fender and the XC only body trim on said fender. Friends shop got it at auction and put a used fender and trim on it then sold it to us.
For that break warning id check the CCM under the glovebox, my old 2004 S40 suffered immobiliser issues caused by damp getting in there. Common problem on volvos
5-cylinder is actually an ideal configuration to reduce vibration. Great deal. Here in San Jose California, used cars are selling at an all time premium due to shortage of cars.

I want to be clear, I'm NOT hating on Randy, the boy can do his Hussle how ever it works for him. Was just pointing it out is all.

uhh Didn’t even fix the volvo headlight LOL
yes its so sad, now only talks about money money money

Great deal Randy, Volvo's are indestructible, this one would be worth looking after, great job man
this model is NOT indestructible! Quite a few very spendy needs at this mileage including expensive rebuilt trans's which are a weak point in it
Hello from France.
An XC70 can have problems with the torsen if not well maintain (swapping regularly front and back tires) otherwise it's a wonderful car. The modular IL5 is one of the best engine ever made.
No torsen. Its a haldex. From late 2002 and forwad is haldex in Volvo. Use to work at haldex in Landskrona 👍
@@grandpaswheelchair5997 Oh yes. 2004... sorry.
Yeah!!!! I said yesterday "When will there be al Volvo in the channel???" There it is! Love it..
I have a UK 2.4 diesel 2004 exactly as yours, really cheap low miles and bomb proof. The brake pedal position sensor message also is lit and also ignored! This should keep going for years... Please dont junk/break up.
I would buy it and drive it! And volvos run forever
Given all the pluses on it, I would definitely buy that right now! It would immediately be my commuter for work.
I bought one of these cars a couple years ago for about the same price. The rear hatch was seized up on mine too but I crawled inside, pried back the trim enough to spring the latch by hand, then all I had to do was take the trim off and lubricate the mechanism.
I had a 2005 Ford 500 same thing literally just a V6 engine change the fluids and it will be the best car you ever own
I drove a new V90 wagon to meet a customer in. I was super impressed with it. Volvos are nice
I have a 2009 Volvo v70 D5 awd it’s a tractor 🚜 I bought it 8 years ago and still love the damn thing ❤️
Dear Sir !! You Got A SUPERB DEAL !! ............. Bless
Good deal in the context of the american market. That price is about average for that car in europe.
The price of replacement parts would total that car out they can be an electronic nightmare to get faults repaired
I miss the days when you had to actually 'fix' the cars and sell them. Lately, we're just watching you flip cars with no real content for the channel.
Yet here we are watching another video of Randy driving a car home.
I’m noticing that randy is ignoring these comments… 😂
WB screwed him. He can’t do those anymore or he won’t make any money.
@@CupwakeRBLX when shit happens you have to overcome and adapt. Not just completely give up on what got you to the point you’re at
Randy man. Your a good ol boy and there just ain't enough like ya left man. Not even anything particular about this video I just thoroughly enjoy your whole demeanor . I hope your as cool in real life as you are to me here. 🖤
Hi. Try restoring the external plastic with a heatgun (the results can be spectacular). It would be great content for cheap.
you should check the PCV system to make sure its venting properly because it can blow out a seal if it isn't
Those back seats are also built in booster seats pull up on the front part
My buddy bought one of those and it’s been good for em. I like them a lot
Sounds like a good deal for a station wagon definitely a good flip car and clean condition
I think all Volvo’s are beautiful especially survivors like this one.
Best car I’ve ever owned!
No nede to rebuilt dash. Is a 2001-2002 problem. 2003 we put a new dachboard in from a new suplayer.
There is a big metal plate in the center of the dachboard. Cold-hot-cold-hot makes the plate bend and destroy the dachboard card.
I would check the shunt in the CEM (under steering wheel) before I did anything with module. Mine was just a shunt with that same mileage.
I had an 03 it ran great but there was something wrong with the driveshaft that I couldn't figure out mine had over 200k as well they look almost identical
This car will go forever. Had one with 460,000 till it finally blew a transmission
Yes I would buy it in a heart beat.
Nice Volvo ! And super cheap its very good for winter and mud
It's an insurance car as the body cladding is NLA from Volvo and can be hard to find second hand. My moms XC was originally totaled for a fender and the XC only body trim on said fender. Friends shop got it at auction and put a used fender and trim on it then sold it to us.
Volvo is supposedly the safest car made as well... they are good cars for sure
For that break warning id check the CCM under the glovebox, my old 2004 S40 suffered immobiliser issues caused by damp getting in there. Common problem on volvos
