    The death of me is going to be me slipping and cracking my head open on the slick tiled sidewalks in SR. Interesting choice for a place that gets a good amount of rain.
    Good message on mental health: get help, reach out for help. Thank you for the video!

      I feel that. I went into the main atrium at Heritage Walk mall because it was pouring. Those floors were like walking on ice! Had to steady myself so I didn't take a header down the stairs!

    The suicide cause being so high sadly makes a bit of sense to me. US Veterans leaving the active forces have a suicide rate 1.5 times higher than the average American due to the dramatic change. A big factor in that is losing their community support they were accustomed to. Moving to another country can have the same effect on a person, but there are large expat communities throughout the world. So, I would suggest for this reason that planning on becoming a part of them is important enough that people need to look into that even before making the move. Just my two cents.
    The other big one for vets is the loss of purpose, and that can hit retirees hard too I imagine.

    The S-thing is most likely a combo of Destitution and feeling socially isolated.
    Men talk about our problems/feelings very differently. If we open up, show vulnerability, we're immediately attacked especially by females. So we approach the problem from the side so to speak. We may say we have a physical ailment, when we're hurting someplace else.
    Dave, you have a generous spirit, wish you the very best!
    As a new subscriber, been enjoying a number of your videos, even if most of them look like there are constant earthquakes!

    Hi Dave, This really got me thinking on why as men we feel the need to escape from our lives back home. My main motivation to travel to Cambodia and beyond is why not… I mean your right you can’t run away from yourself or your problems. So is living in a beautiful affordable apartment or eating great healthy food for a fraction of the cost back home going to change all that no. But it makes for a more pleasant experience. Those Statistics are quite a shock and unexpected but if I had to take a guess the cause isn’t as surprising. To many expats go travelling to Asia with an idealistic view of romance and women and looking for that in a place like Cambodia is asking for the kind of misadventure that you might not recover from financially and emotionally.

    Hey Dave - very interesting topic mate. I wonder how many 'deaths by misadventure' might actually be just ruled a s'side? Either way good advice in that reaching out for help is a strength not a weakness. And if you aint feeling right in your home country, coming to a place like Cambodia isn't going to fix it.
    Hope you are well mate - can't wait to catch up again when we are back in town!

    • @DaveDoesCambodia
      @DaveDoesCambodia  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Death by misadventure is probably classified as a suicide more times than it should but you know how it is, the less effort to investigate the better. Unfortunately, there are no standardized records of causes of death that I could find.
      I hope you guys stay safe and I'm looking forward for when you get back!

    Follow up topic, can family member claim the possession (inheritance law?), what VISA can you qualify for?60 days tourist only?

    • @DaveDoesCambodia
      @DaveDoesCambodia  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm not really sure how that works but I'm assuming that if family members are coming here to prepare for removal of a loved one that they would most likely just need a tourist visa. They should be given any of the deceased's possessions but I can't say for certain what the procedure is.

    DEATH IS INEVITABLE -- ? -- My guess would be heat strokes over there. --- ( ? ) --- Health issues due to age are eventually depressing if we live long enough ? We lose mobility and desire to continue with such effort required - some just quit. Perhaps incurable health issues as well. Desperation certainly not inspiration at work here with many elderly ?

    Maybe you could do a public service by listing things like expat support groups? Even online groups could be helpful. Also, what happens to the body of the deceased? Does the government mandate expats must pre-arrange funeral arrangements? EOL - End of Life documents are important. If the expat has family, it could be a nightmare for them. Can you do a video on those aspects?

    Wow Dave, I'm with you I never would've guessed suicide! Yes, it's always sad in any circumstance, but to come up as a number one cause is something else!! The problem with the idea of running away from your problems is if such things are in your head you're taking that with you anyway. Your georaphical position ain't going to change that.

    I'm saying this is the case with all the recent suicides of foreigners in Cambodia, but I wonder what percentage of these suicides were intentional. I lived in Phnom Penh since late 2000 to early 2018. Back in 2005 there was an American ex-pat who set-up a number of websites to recruit and assist ex-pats and foreigners to come to come to Cambodia to die (if I'm not mistaken, he was located in Kampot). PM Hun Sen demanded that he shut down these websites, and his operations forthwith. Obviously, he complied! ... I've been watching videos from Cambodia for about the last four months in anticipation of returning to Cambodia in the Fall-Winter of 2025-26. I'm a recently retired Canadian senior, but because of my many years (over 22) outside of the country, my Canadian retirement benefits insist that I must spend a minimum of 183 days inside Canada, or they will be cut off. I'm even contemplating living in Siem Reap, although I've only spent about eight days total there during two trips to Angkor Wat complex, in Dec 2000 and Dec 2002. (At that time, they hadn't erected the wooden steps with railings to assist the tourists.) Pub Street wasn't even there!! But I've watched your videos, and I think a guys named Kelly? But for sure ''For Riel'' and ''Itchy Feet'' in PP. All of you have been extremely helpful, in bringing attention to all of the changes and developments that have happened over the last 6 and1/2 years (especially the increase of prices). ...
