The famous Banh Xeo ( Vietnamese ) is very different from the Cambodian kind. Vietnamese use a lot of oil to make the batter so crispy. In Cambodia, They don't do that at all. I have to add this after finishing watching your video. That is the trait of the Cambodian people. When you travel along the road and get stuck some where you don't know anyone. Cambodian people will never let you stay in the open. They will open their house for you to stay overnight and ofcourse some foods. They will never let you go hungry. That's Cambodia. That is the heart of the cambodian society that most westerners don't know.

Cambodians also add toasted coconut flakes into their Banh Cheo filling and never any meat chunks cooked as part of the the crepe itself like the vietnamese do. Also the sauce is slightly made differently too.

I had Vietnamese Banh Xeo in Orange County, CA. They served it with the thin translucent sheet. It tasted weird with it, so I didn't use it. I still preferred the Khmer version with toasted coconut flakes in the filing. My Banchiao usually included lots of toasted coconut flakes and bean sprout, and I like my dipping sauce a little more too.... 😃

Thanks so much! I had some more to say but the video kept getting too big and I was running out of footage! Battambang has an interesting back story during the KR. The KR were trying to advance through Banan or Phnom Sampov (I can't remember which ) and BtB had all their forces closing the one route but had they come the other direction they would've taken BtB!

I love it, I been telling my friends and sharing your videos so that they can subscribe as well. I haven’t been to Khmer for at least 14 years. I was born in Battambang, and survived the brutal Khmer Rouge. Battambang countryside was very beautiful. I hope that it is still beautiful today. After stopping by my favorite countries of Philippines and Thailand, I will visit Battambang villages (Dang Trang and Boeung Troh to be exact) next year. Regarding the foods, my rules of thumb is when I eat in Khmer restaurant, it is Khmer food. When I eat at AZ Pho, which is Vietnamese restaurant, it is Vietnamese food. When I eat at Texas Roadhouse, it is American food. It doesn't matter what country it is in either.... 😃

Thanks for this video! I was looking for a good video to share with family coming to visit and this is perfect. I could see my house from your panoramas from the Classy. The park was very quiet when you visited, probably because rain was coming. There are usually at least three large aerobics classes in the park in the evening. The park is a huge bonus to BTB, a great place to walk, exercise and socialize. You also don't need to worry about walking aroundcat night- it's very safe.

Classy Hotel is where my grandparents’s house used to stand. A place where I grew up and later where I spent my summers while on break from school in Phnom Penh. The two stories house also had a balcony at the front supported by V shaped pillars. The oval shaped courtyard in front was paved and it was surrounded with takae coconut trees and a champa tree along the fence perimeter. In the middle of the courtyard was a flag pole that I remember seeing my grandfather stringing up the flag. It’s on this courtyard that I first drove my first car, one powered with a battery that you could pull out and charge. My mother got married there, a big wedding which I still have pictures of, courtesy of a friend of a relative who happened to be there while visiting from Australia. That piece of land was given to my grandmother by her grandmother. My heart breaks, thinking about all this.

25:35 Banh xeo (crepe like) and banh cong (bun like) are both VNmese street/market food, though sometime people make them at home for large gatherings. This is my own speculation: "xeo" is the sound when the batter hits the wok's hot surface and the liquid gets rolled around to make the "crepe".and "xeo xeo" it goes...

The vibe is so chill and a slower pace compared to Siem Reap, people saw me as a kun Khmer and would automatically speak to me in Khmer (lots of Khmer people think I look borotes due to my height, build and tattoos) and no one would haggle us like in Siem Reap with the Fxxking annoying tuk tuk drivers. We only spent 2 days there and we regret not staying longer! We did a full day tour of Pnom Sampov, Pnom Banon and watch the bats leave the cave at sunset. I'm surprised battambang is not getting a lot of infrastructure development the way phnom penh capital is getting. It's the second largest city in cambodia. It's also strategic being much closer to Bangkok than phnom penh is. If cambodia wants to attract more tourists, they should develop this city along with koh kong. Battambang could be a trading and tourist hub and would benefit from its close proximity to bangkok.

The guy who grinned the fish has cigarette in his mouth; REALLY? 🤮 Although, I didn’t that it was lit. I have seen the hidden video here in the US where a guy was smoking while grinding the beef and the ashes fell into the meat and he didn’t care, unbelievable! Thanks for sharing your videos ❤

The total lack of hygiene is a reminder of why these countries are considered third world. 🇰🇭
The fact that this mass production is for distribution to markets and restaurants throughout the country is frightening.
It’s not unfair to presume that the rat and rodent population is off the charts and their waste and excrement is in the sauce 😮

So sorry -- I much prefer the looks of Siem Reap. That city is much more beautiful by comparison to this place in my opinion. Not comparing the country surrounding them just within the city's. Being an old retired American who only speaks English - the large expat community would also be desirable companionship ! And the cost of living is hard to beat anywhere. The airport has cheap one hour flights to Bangkok for fun or quality medical care. So -- "what's not to like" - ? - It has what is needed. (even 50 cent beer)
