Great video, Jillian! I agree wholeheartedly. I feel that I'm one of the lucky ones. I had issues of overweight when I was young. My story is too long to tell here, but I was able to lose it all gradually and keep it off. Because I had to slog it out, and figure it all out over time, the entire subject became a passion of mine. My motive is to stay healthy, but also, to help those I care about or even others I meet. The way I do that is to refer them to resources like your videos and books, or others in the industry that make sense. I admire your commitment and your honesty. You're a voice of sanity in a sea of misinformation!

I'm Into month 11 of a self-directed commitment to improved health. I'd like to know more about diet specific to my needs. I didn't really address diet and protein scientifically till I googled a formula this week. I do have a good diet that does include junk food that I yo yo and struggle with. At 62 kg, very active 74 yo female I decided to eat 1.4 grams of protein a day per kg of weight equal to 87.82 grams of protein a day. What I found out I saw myself blow up was that I also had to manage fat and calories. I'm thinking too much additional fat. I do have less cravings/munchies with the additional protein. I now know how to read a label and compare protein to calories. There's a lot of steps to deprogram and have better practices.

I have to respectfully disagree with some of this... to answer the question about obesity not being a problem prior to the 1960's - 1970's, I think we need to look at what happened about that time in our history. That is the time that our government and big food industry started messing with the food supply in search of the almightly dollar. It isn't just the proliferation of processed foods that are calorie dense... with that came chemicals in our foods, hormones given to livestock, and genetic modification of foods away from their natural state. I think it is arguable that all of this manipulation of our food supply that left us ingesting tons of things never meant to be inside our bodies, has wreaked damage on how our bodies and dietary hormones function (or in many of us... no longer function). So I think we can argue that it is a disease of sort... but one of man's own making, and for some of us it may take medication to help our broken digestive systems to manage and reverse obesity, just like other disease processes take medication to address broken body systems.
