    Props to both. They both had prolific professional basketball careers. One won championship in the NBA, the biggest basketball stage in the world. One won a championship in China and helped make the game into a bigger global phenomenon. They both went through really hard times but let that be a lesson that whichever path you take in life, you can always end up being a champ. 🏆

    I kind of blame the greatness of Allen Iverson for their break-up. I think Marbury wanted what AI had, a team for himself. I think he foolishly thought he was as good as Iverson.

    • @SwishScopeOfficial
      @SwishScopeOfficial 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      I always thought the same, but I don't think he's foolish for it. Him and A.I were rivals in college and their rookie year before A.I reached new heights every season onwards. In Steph's mind, he outplayed Iverson most of the time in college and their rookie season, he even said "statistically he's better, but I believe impact-wise I'm better" and he felt if he had the green light A.I had as a #1 option, he could reach that level too. He did see scoring jumps once he left 'Sota and even became a 2 time All-Star, but in hindsight, I think he'd trade that for better postseasons with KG.

    • @diamondcutter4056
      @diamondcutter4056 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      +Swish Scope It's sad bcuz Marbury had it all. He was alot more explosive and bigger than Iverson. They were just both amazing to watch play but Iverson was always a better scorer. Steph is more of an actual new york elite point guard that can do it all with an explosive first step & top tier handles. If he stayed in Sota' they may have won a title.

    • @dy120481
      @dy120481 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Seriously? Marbury is from the media capital of the world and had been getting massive amounts of attention since the 6th grade. He wasn't used to sharing the spotlight and didn't like it. Not sure how you can "blame" Iverson for Marbury being a spoiled brat that passed up a shot at greatness for individual glory.

    From the interview Marbury did with Slam Magazine, him leaving the Wolves had nothing to do with him being jealous of KG it was more of him not liking the lifestyle in Minnesota. He said in the interview that he almost lost his life numerous times driving on black ice during his time there.

    This is why Lebron and all the ignorant young Heat fans who thought KG owed Ray Allen an apology were dead wrong. KG's generous and loyal to the fullest for his teammates and has had a history of losing his best friend teammates (Stephon Marbury, Malik Sealy) to unforeseen circumstances, each one hurting him more than the last. He shouldn't have to owe anyone an explanation for this, this info has been around forever. Although Ray wasn't a best friend, KG and his teammates heavily invested in him and each other (just like the Marbury thing). Even though the C's staff didn't share that investment and wanted to trade him, all Ray had to do was join anyone but the rival Heat (who the C's had animosity with) and he would've got a pass for it, they'd still be friends. Instead it was like all of those battles and losses to the Heat meant nothing personal to Ray as it did with the rest of the C's. Then of all people to ask KG to apologize, it's the rival that he lost his teammate to lol.

    Marbury said he wanted to go home that was the real reason why he asked for a trade. Not every player dreams of championships and things like that. Marbury said straight up her wanted to go home and didn't want to like in Minnesota for the next 10 years to be the next Stockton and Malone. Its unfortunate basketball wise, but everyone is their own person and has different motivations for why they want to do things

    What a messed up sad ending, any Timberwolves fan and Minnesota fan knows. KG held it down until the end even after going to the Celtics he still represented Minnesota. Marbury was Starbury back then and could've been way bigger with the T'wolves and Garnett then he could've ever been with the Nets or the Suns. Another Minnesota sports team let down

    Then everything went downhill after that. They sign joe smith and ruins their cap space causing the NBA to take their draft picks for like a decade. No talent to really be paired with kg. Then kg leaving to Boston. Drafting Kevin love ,Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio, only Ricky on the team. The positive is finally here in Minnesota. They now have two potential superstars with potentially the best guard from the 2016 draft and they have a good coach

    • @BrendanSlob
      @BrendanSlob 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Smith did not ruin their cap space for a decade bro..
      If you wanna get into cap space lets get into KG's 10 year deal that caused an NBA lockout and the deal was grandfathered into the new salary cap. I love KG but if he wanted to win a ring in SOTA he would have retooled his deal with them after it exceeded the cap, Joe Smith screwed us because the under the table deal McHale made with him for next season and cost 3 draft picks.

    Stephs attitude started a downward spiral on the NYC point guard mythology and people just accepting them as demigods on the court just because...he can never be slighted as a talent as he gave people the business and was/is probably the best talent at PG to ever come out of NYC, but he gave up on a team that wanted to give him everything with a teammate who wanted him to have everything just to be 'Starbury'....
    Has Steph every really reflected on this decision? Have to search that out. I'd love as KG is retiring for the two of them to be reunited to discuss that time, the game itself then/now, and life as both guys were cut from a certain cloth and time that is still relevant as they have grown and matured into great stories of success in their own right.

    KG was an Alpha willing to sacrifice in a lot of ways, it makes me wonder why the Timberwolves couldn't get him a decent co-star for years. If he was a selfish Alpha like Marbury, he would've left earlier and never came back to retire as a Timberwolf. He left the Timberwolves a little KG in the rookies for the future before walking out, much respect. Wish him the best!

    Players blaming each other when actually it was that CBA that broke them up.. a few years later they players went on strike because of it. If i was Stephon Marbury from Coney Island Projects who grew up in "poverty" then i want the money too.

      Stop sitting here pretending that the CBA made a bunch of players into paupers. It's absolutely ridiculous.
      That era of players was filled with guys who swore up and down that they "just wanted to win", but then did everything that they could to sabotage that; and Starbury is on that list.

    yall boys are all wrong its number one Tim Duncan number 2 Charles Barkley (put respect on this man as a player) number 3 dirk (led a bunch of over the hill vets to beat LBJ wade in finals) number 4 Kevin G (love KG to death only reason he aint over dirk is dirk did not need paul pierce and ray allen) number 5 Karl Malone ( stockton made malone more than malone made stockton) number 6 kevin mchale 7 elvin haynes 8 bob mcadoo 9 bob pettit 10 chris webber

    • @kamalmurphy734
      @kamalmurphy734 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lavar Ball kg is easily over Dirk, you dumb asf if you think otherwise

    • @robd1811
      @robd1811 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      love KG...... defensively he is better than dirk but offensively dirk is better than KG..... i personally would draft KG over dirk, but the way their careers panned out Dirk scoring over 300000 points dirk leading a team to the finals twice and winning once without the help of two other superstars in the west has to go into making these lists. it isn't as much about talent or who you would draft but dirk had a better career than KG and i know KG was screwed over in minnesota, but that miami team beat the Cs once in 2011 and in 2012 and the mavs beat the heat in 2011 also dirk is a finals mvp and kg is not ...... also i'd like to redo this list because i have chuck to high 1. Tim D 2. Dirk 3. KG 4. Chuck 5. Karl malone 6. K Mchale 7. Chris Webber 8. Elvin Hayes 9. Bob Mcadoo 10. Bob Pettit................ you can't just compare the type of players they are or their games you have to compare career and career accomplishments as well as overall how successful they were have to take into account level of competition as well as team accomplishments since this is a team game.... however, if i was going to make a draft list instead of an all time list i'll give you that too to clear up any questions 1. Tim D 2. KG 3. Chris Webber 4. Chuck 5. Karl Malone 6. Dirk 7. Elvin Hayes 8. K Mchale 9. Bob Mcadoo 10. Bob Pettit................. as you see dirk is lower chris webber is higher reason why talent wise at 18-21 i believe after seeing their careers played out that if paired with the right pieces it would be easier to win multiple titles with KG Tim Chris chuck and karl as the main pieces instead of dirk but dirk had a better career than KG and i can't discount that simply because i like KG more. This is all opinion anyway and it doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things. All ten of these players are great and when it comes down to these great players you have to nit pick and i hate doing that because their games are so great it can come across as an insult when nitpicking these players.

    • @kamalmurphy734
      @kamalmurphy734 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lavar Ball but we're not comparing careers, were comparing them as players, and kg is a better rebounder, passer and defender that. Dirk is. Dirk is a better scorer than kg but that doesn't make up for the rest. You could also make the case that at their peaks he was better than Duncan. If we're looking at stats throughout their prime, pretty close with the slight edge to Garnett, just that TD had the more longevity

    • @robd1811
      @robd1811 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are comparing careers when you compare any player you compare their careers otherwise you could just say grant hill in his prime was the GOAT or david Thompson in his prime was better than kobe you can't do that when you do you take away the validity of any argument. KG stats are apart of his career and when comparing everything you have to take into account accomplishments team accomplishments longevity and many other factors and when you look at it KG while in a draft id take him at 18 or 19 over dirk at 19 or 20. however. for them and what they ACTUALLY did in the NBA and being objective dirk, one city bringing dallas a championship two finals apperances while kg had to team up with ray allen and paul pierce to win a ring and the boston team could not beat the heat team while dallas did beat the heat team for a championship you can't ignore that just because for a brief time KGs stats were freaking amazing 22 ppg 12 rbs 5 ass 1.5 blocks amazing but on a team that didn't win a championship while individually KG at minnesota was amazing it did not translate to a championship what dirk did in dallas individually was amazing and did translate to a championship skill wise they both have skills that the other does not but dirk could take over a game scoring kg could take over on defense and rebounding those are the strongest parts of each of their games................. its by a cock hair though honestly KG was so good at everything KG has a slight edge skill wise on rebounding and passing dirk has the edge on scoring KG has the edge on defense blocks and steals so KG's defense is better offensively slight very slight edge goes to dirk but what team success came out of it what did the leaders lead their team to do and KG had to have PP and RA to win the big chip and it was done in the east where the other best teams at the time were LBJ and nobody Wade and hasslem and nobody and dwight and a bunch of vets and they got to two finals and won one that LA team that in 2010 beat boston in 7 games lost to dallas the next year in a sweep and all dirk had was old jason terry old shawn marion old jason kidd JJ barea and tyson chandler and only thing tyson is good at is defense JJ was only good because of dirk and the rest of the guys were old who did that dallas team beat portland (so so) LA (two time defending champs) OKC (coming up young guys) and miami (team that beat boston in playoffs two years in a row) where i am from winning is what matters most that is why we roll the balls out not stats

    2 All defensive teams
    9 All defensive first which is tied for most in nba history led nba in rebounds for 4 years now 2002-03 season he led his team in all stats lacked help most of his career prior to kg the wolves ain’t have not one 30 win season if you swap him with Tim Duncan he easily has 5 rings one of 4 players to win DPOTY and League MVP with Michael Jordan, Duncan Robinson, & Hakeem he has over 25,000, points, 10,000 rebounds, 5,000 assist, 1500 steals, and 1500 blocks, only player in na history to hit all these milestones he paved the way for modern bigs. the wolves front office failed him when throughout his whole time there his teammates only had as a collective 3 all star appearances with Chauncey Billups and Stephon Marbury no help from a front office or talented players 1v1 a prime kg is better than any other primes PF in their primes between 23-30 Duncan averaged less of everything EXCEPT Blocks in which he was up by .9 so if kg not 1st then he second obviously beating Charles Karl & Dirk

    pulled a mark ass move...bouncing on the "strong west" and a "small loyal-market" to get a win-win to play in a good market so regardless of the outcome in the playoffs...then ends up not playing for the nets the year they face off the lakers in the finals....i guess you could call it fate...but he should have stuck his guns out in the west and fought it out if they made it to the finals they could have been one of the west that won it all in that era...
