I had several issues with it (Frankie no longer being the MC, Ghoulia's removal, new art style), but my biggest one was the "start from scrath" approach. Why not just start off at MH with everyone being friends? Why did they have to build the school and meet each other that way?
@@pinacoladaofficialI mean, in the books that the entire franchise is based on, her father literally does own the school. In the books, they’re pretending to be normies for most of their lives, until they eventually expose themselves and Dracula literally builds the school as a method to protect them. Plus, even though they originally went to the same school, they weren’t really friends until Frankie was made, they just knew that they were monsters, and helped to cover it up.
How can children even „dress promiscuous”? There’s only one group of people that can sexualize their body to become „promiscuous” and it’s not the dolls.
I wonder if people think the same thing when they give their sons half-dressed male action figures, who are intended to grapple with other half-dressed male action figures
I remember being there for the transition, seeing leaks of Draculaura's new design and the look of Welcome to Monster High. I gave it a shot and I remember somewhat enjoying it, but the Adventures of the Ghoul Squad was so meh that I leaved the franchise. But nowadays I came back, I watched the first season of G3 and just started the second one, got a Frankie doll and soon I will get the Twyla one, so all in all, even if G2 was a bad reboot, they tried again and G3 is great
@@adamcurazi2122 yeah, but it's been years since G1 so the transition to G3 is better, G3 even with all the differences still has the same spirit of MH I love and entertainment value that G2 was somewhat lacking
I think the reason this gen never really stuck the landing for me is that unlike Gen 1 and Gen 3, it had no real idea what it wanted to be. Gen 1 was the one I grew up with, and it had a clear style and message it wanted to send, that being to just be who you are flaws and all and to be proud of that. I’ve actually grown to really like Gen 3 as well. It might be different to Gen 1, but I appreciate the emphasis on diversity that Gen 1 couldn’t really achieve due to the time period it was being produced in and it has its own cute style that I dig. Gen 2 in comparison though? It just kinda feels like an awkward transitional phase. It had no real message it wanted to send, no real unique style or sense of direction, and no idea what it wanted to be. It felt like a reboot for the sake of being a reboot, if that makes sense.
G1 was very diverse imo. They tackled all sorts of disabilities, some more obvious than others, and made sure that none of these disabilities were seen as a bad thing. I distinctly remember the episode where a new student in a wheelchair came to school and the cast was overprotective, but he was a passionate racer and showed them that he didn't need to be babied.
@@shadowserenity1879G1 was diverse but ultimately clumsy in execution. For every good representation, like the merman you mentioned, there were a few bad ones. Clawdeen being voiced by a white woman with explicit mannerisms that derive from black culture, Jinafire being a walking Chinese stereotype, and Isi Dawndancer is another stereotype but for Native Americans. Also, due to the copy and paste production of the doll bases, there was zero representation for anyone that wasn’t model thin. G1 had good intentions but the design team dropped the ball on a lot of aspects. G3 ironed that process out and really developed the idea of diversity and loving yourself.
I managed to get a very cheap G2 Frankie and was absolutely fascinated when, since I was planning on customising, I removed the head to find a solid cylinder of plastic instead of a neck peg. I was floored, as were some of the other members of the UK MH discord I posted the pictures to.
Not sure about smoother but i think the shadows are stronger and sharper, which is something I really enjoy and miss in G3. G3's models look very nice (Quality-wise, not design-wise. There are show designs that I like and designs that are just...not it), but the lighting could use a bit of pimping up. At least I think it's due to the lighting? Like I definitely feel a lack of contrast and sharpness compared to G2.
to be fair, g3s animation gets a much smaller budget cuz it’s a series meanwhile g2’s animated movies actually had a pretty big budget, so that’s kind of like the problem.. especially, if u look at earlier g3 media including dolls, u can kinda notice they really didn’t have that big of a budget either, so they just sticked with the animation they had in the beginning i assume
The Last G2 doll lines were: 1- School Spirit 2- Popart Ghouls 3- Howling Hoodles (unreleased) 4- Ghostley Party Tea (unreleased) 5(the Last line)- Rainy Day Ghouls (unreleased)
Disney were planning to make a short movie called Princess Academy so that's another reason I think that Disney didn't like EAH. For "stealing their idea"
My main problem with G2 is how unoriginal it is. I mean its so connected to g1 but more childish. It wasn't interesting to me, and I was still a kid back then. That's why I love g3 so much. Cause it tries to be original and be its own thing, it's just BASED on G1.
I feel like G2 could’ve been so cute if they just stuck till like 2010-2016 aesthetics (like I know the 2010s gets dogged on for the fashion but u can still make it cute ) like I know it would’ve been very of its time but people are warming up to the 2010s again . Like imagine if Franky was a hipster or was really into mustaches or if Dracula was a dork & baby goth and Laguna was swag or was a pink (vs) girl and Claudine was Americana or gyaru idk I feel like there were so many aesthetics of that time they could’ve used and just didn’t (also like duct tape Stuff was also popping at the time like duck tape wallets, dresses I think that would be fun incorporate that maybe I’d come with a doll) Of course some of them would age very poorly but like I feel like they’d get the tumbler girls to buy it (also scene was still a big thing at this time idk why they just didn’t keep with it)
I remember how g2 broke me when it first came out. For context I am autistic and monster high has been my main special interest ever since October 2010 when I was 8 years old. Seeing the shocking new commercials for g2 dolls. Specifically the “new faces” one. It really felt like it came so out of the blue and hearing in a monster high commercial them talk about g1 in such a way (“that’s not who we are” in reference to the old faces being ‘scary’) felt like an actual betrayal to me that was equal to losing real life friends. To me it felt like they were censoring monster high, and felt like all those times teachers and adults (when I was a kid) would spout self acceptance but then privately tell me that me being myself was actually bad (due to my disability inconveniencing them). I’ve warmed up to the g2 media after all these years now that we have returned with g3 to the core of the franchise, to truly accept yourself and that being different from the expected norm is completely ok and shouldn’t be demonized. G2 back when it happened really felt that world ending to pretty much everyone in the fangdom. I still remember the doomsday posts and back then I wholeheartedly agreed with all of them, and honestly to this day I still do quite a bit even if I can somewhat appreciate a few things from g2, I know it’s only because monster high has healed with the Skullector releases (I cried for over an hour when I saw real monster high dolls in their original styles again in 2020- so happy) and with g3 being more of a real reboot that is actually **good** and not just “what if we turned monster high into Disney because we need those $$$$ from toddlers and very young kids”.
I feel like there are a few Inconsistencies with the reboot movies and film. Electrified, I feel like the normies are stupid. Clearly they were scared of Moanica's raid. Like how the heck did they think her raid was a part of the show? In ghouls rule, the normies were able to find out that Heath was a monster due to his outburst. In Electrified they just sit there and enjoyed themselves even after the incident. It makes no sense. Also in the films they made a salon, and a school with no permit or difficulty, and in the adventures of the ghoul school Draculaura's "Sister," was adopted without any paperwork. Also how in the world did Frankie make zap.out of thin air ( to be honest I'm talking about things others have had issues with.) these things don't make sense. And all I have to say is Moanica d'kay stole the limelight fair and square and ate every time she was on screen
i don't mind G2 (even enjoyed the movies) and G3, my problem is that G1 was simply better. i especially didn't like how they kept the same characters but completely changed their personalities (like my girls would never do/say x,y and z) so it always feels like they are stepping on my toes. (i am a big fan of cleo's and deuce's relationship, of course i didn't like that cleo and frankie are all of a sudden a thing. the same goes for clawdeen and toralei) and my biggest problem is that they aren't fashion dolls anymore!! i fell in love with them because of their personalities but a huge factor was also how fashionable they are. i would rewatch the movies just to see their clothes again. and i especially hate how some people say that they are glad that monster high doesn't focus on fashion as much or at all anymore. like monster high was for us fashion girlies if you don't like it that's fine but why do you feel the need to take that away from us? there are tons of girl dolls nowadays that don't focus on fashion. no need to villainize us or the brand for liking fashion. and many girl dolls don't do well because they aren't fashionable. the only reason why they can get away with it nowadays is because there is a lack of it in the market. if you put a fashion doll next to a non fashion doll of (let's say) barbie, most girls if not all would take the fashion doll.
I like g3 more than g2 and it is getting there with the fashion slowly. The first few dolls had less fantastical and imaginative elements that monster high is known for and were more casual but the core refresh dolls and some of the other newer releases show more promise. There’s more creative shoes and there outfits and make up look more fun and interesting. They also don’t use poly as much on the newer core releases which thank god. As for the characters being same but different it’s a reboot every series does the eventually to get a new audience, think of it more like another dimension, similar but different. In g1 my favourite characters were ghoulia and Abby and now it’s Frankie and Lagoona. They still talk about fashion and enjoy it in the show and skelita still wants to be a fashion designer but they have more varried interests in G3. G1 lagoona liked sports and being chill, g3 lagoona likes sports, romance comics, telenova’s and playing video games with her best friend ghoulia ( in g3 they added Lagoona to be the secondary trio with cleo and ghoulia in contrast to drac, clawdeen and Frankie.) they have more powers, they have magic rooms of requirement in there school filled with Frankie gadgets and dracularas cauldron. There’s more in show lore about their pets it’s not the same as g1 but the pets barely appeared at all in g1. You also see more of the characters parents, heaths dad, dueces moms, draculara mom and dad, clawdeens mom and dad, toralai’s mom etc. I do think they will have a cross over with g1 and it will be cool to see the different characters interact because their so different imagine the g1 characters finding out that toralai can sing and has a band, Lagoona has a pile of bones on her room and the Nephra isn’t an evil brat in this dimension.
For the characters personalities changing, me personally I’m not really against it. I don’t feel a reboot should have to abide by the canon of the original unless it’s a direct continuation, so making changes is fine in my eyes. What really matters for me is if those changes are good or not, which G3 has a mix of good and bad for me. For the fashion, I feel the latest dolls have gotten better in the clothing department. I do think it’s odd how emphasis is still placed on Clawdeen being a fashionista while the show and live action films don’t showcase that aspect of her at all.
“The same goes for Clawdeen and Toralei”, but the Pride comics are G1? Unless something happened recently in the new show I missed, but that would require G3 to accept Claw’s gay.
@@jiggerblayne While my only real gripe with G1 is the severe lack of screen time most of the families have, giving everyone a nuclear family with no conflict is not the solution. And certainly no amount of hobbies can excuse G3’s fauxgression. Also this weirdly isn’t the first time I’ve seen people deny the pets’ G1 episodes/toys? I swear half the fanbase is not watching the same show I am.
I hated gen-2 because their shtick at first was "gen1 is sooo scary, its time to make them cuter looking!!" Because it went against the whole message of gen1!! I thought freaky was fabulous and then they just turned their back on it like what??? Spiritually i can never like gen2 because of that, they're not even that bad looking, i just cant get ovet how they did that :C
@@pleasantlypurrfectThis actually bothered me a lot too. Depending on the copy of the movie you watch, there’s just no background music and it feels, like you said, awkward. The first time I watched the movie it was the BGM-less version, but my second watch through had the score put back in.
I realized a thing: In every generation of MH we have a different protagonist. At the beginning of each series/film the story revolves around a particular character Gen1: we have Frankie as newbie Gen2: we have Draculaura who welcomes new monsters Gen3: we have Clawdeen who longs to enter into MH This is the main trio. I find it kinda cool, even though it was probably unintentional. Also I hate gen2 and 3
I get that tbh. I do like G1 Frankie and I try to defend her from the hate she tends to get, but she often feels vanilla in comparison to the others, particularly once the 3d movies started up. I find that this isn’t unique to Frankie though, as for me personally, both Draculaura and Clawdeen became less interesting to me when they were made to be the MCs of their respective gens.
@Boogeyman4511 I think Frankie can go either way, and mainly suffered from Generation 1 not delving into her parents, home life, and backstory or what the original story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is about! Like it would be fun to see Frankie play off her parents and see how their life experience influenced her. Also, reading the original Frankenstein story shows how many references Monster High made with Frankie! I don't understand the hate Frankie gets, though, she's honestly such a gem of her character even if they don't go into her backstory like the Lisi Harrison books!
@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho YES!!!! I always wanted to see Frankie's parents. Ironically, the original concept of Freaky Fusion was gonna be about Frankie's dad, and they were supposed to see Frankie's father when they went back in time, lol!
22:42 “the salon opens to massive success with the normies, who dress pretty plainly in comparison to the monsters so they really needed something like this” 😂
12:01 I think it actually would’ve been pretty funny diversion to make Frankie really smart considering that Frankenstein is brainless (They could’ve done something cool were it parallels the Frankenstein story story like Frankie doesn’t get treated differently. She gets praised, but she ends up, actually hurting people unlike actual Frankenstein (at least not on purpose)
honestly i really liked the movie animation style like.. ik G1 will forever be iconic but i think the style for the movies is rlly charming and cutesy!
not just you - lagoona’s dolls were some of the only g2 dolls i bothered buying at the time. she didn’t look as cutie-fied as some of the other characters.
@@leviathan_06pink dolls sell better it’s as simple as that and g1 was more of a grey blue and they’ve definitely gone to lightening the color palettes
i honestly don't hate all of the g2 dolls, there are some solid ones. i just hate the fact they rebooted at all. i would've been less sad if they just stopped making MH g3 will never have the same vibes but i'm much more happy with the current direction of the series as a whole.
If G2-3 were wholly unique characters most of the problems really would go away. I was a latecomer who got here with their ‘20s return and was surprised how I fell in love with the cast. As I writer I’ve never understood these remakes that are so clearly not interested in the characters beyond their names as labels, why were they watching/reading this story to begin with?
I really wont count scream & suger + shriekwercked as examples of good g2 dolls-shriekwercked was a scrapped g1 line & scream & sugar is rlly more of a g1 set then it is g2, they didnt even bother changing amanita & neferas faces , its a great set but also a rlly awkard one at the same time, its like if g3 made a draculaura doll but she was basically a g1 drac but w g3 fashion
Thanks for the info! I think when I was researching the sets I saw they were technically G1 but the dollect website listed them under G2 so I got confused
5:39 funny how it many cases, these parents are probably those who encourage their daughters to shave when they get body hair. The duality of the human being.
G2 should have been based off the original Monster High lore where Monster High was created by the parents so their children could have a place to be themselves and not have to pretend to be humans in the Monster High books: Lisi Harrison. Because in those books Monster High was a highschool where Monster's students could finally come out of hiding. Also the Monsters had fled from the Old World and where hiding in the New world! The ghouls and guys basically where homeschooled before Monster High since Monster's were in hiding due to normies and didn't have a place to meet up in Public. Also the Vampires Vs Werewolves things was also still a huge problem. Also it was actually the parents of the main ghouls who selected Headmistress Bloodgood to be the Headmistress of the school. They also donated money to fund the school.
Hot take, I would like a complete revamp with the show, completely new characters, tweaking the old ones just feels like producing subpar versions of them, learning about Moanica felt like a breath of fresh air, finally some good fucking food 👌
The designs and faces were good and cute it was almost as g1 ie Lagoona was much better and all of them were modernized. The story and the web series were bland. We needed intrigue just like New Ghoul @ School.
oooh cant wait! obsessed with your videos, i literally have no real knowledge about this entire toys side of the world and i love it when people talk about their interests!
Now, this is purely anecdotal, but as someone who was super into Monster High as a kid, and lived in New Zealand, I was heartbroken in this phase because G2 here was... nothing! They didn't have any Monster High dolls on shelves for years! (Same with Bratz, I've only seen their return on shelves here super recently). I legit thought Monster High had been discontinued until I saw a doll customiser i really liked customise a "G2 doll" and looked into it a little more myself. We have them back now, G3 dolls haven't won me over in full (but I have a Drac and an Abby
I really enjoy your videos. I think we think pretty similarly and im not sure if thats because we are around the same age but I find your content a more down to earth than other mh commentators. You stay true to the message for sure!
I remember being mortified when I tirst saw leaks if G2 on facebook with the side by side comparisons of the classic and G2 dolls. I was so utterly confused on why they would change them
G2 to me feels like a last ditch effort to save not only the brand but also the company. Monster High almost made Mattel go bankrupt i believe so I think they wanted to try anything. And it makes sense. Everything, to the redesigns to the rewrite of the main story feels rushed and seems like the designers didn’t have time like they did with gen 3.
I honestly don't understand some people. Like barbie hasn't the "perfect figure"? All the disney princesses have "desirable figures". Does anyone remember totally spies or winx club. Those girls also are very sciny. I can't speak for everyone but I as a plus sized girl never thought "oh I have to look like them". there just dolls. What is toxic are some influencers now a days. Most actors in popular movies are sciny. The parents are just projecting there own insecurities on there children
The thing is, those are just the surface level complaints. They're the reasonable complaints, who would dare disagree with "think of the children!?" But that's exactly it though, those aren't the real concerns. It's baseless virtue signaling. When Bratz came into popularity, it also had its fair share of criticism. Once you dug past the concerns about "body image" and "messaging", all you could find were Christian parents saying that the dolls looked like whores and would tempt your children into sin.-- They said the same things about Barbie too, once upon a time. We can very easily assume that for MH, it's the exact same case.
I personally think the original monster high dolls were the best, I absolutely loved them as a kid, I never had one though because my parents thought the fashion was too emo and didn’t want me to dress or want to dress like them
I was like 7 when G2 came out, and I VIVIDLY remember absolutely adoring it, previously I was a fan of the G1 movies but I never really cared for the franchise as a whole (unfortunately), but when I saw welcome to monster high, I became absolutely obsessed with it, I remember waiting on electrified being released and getting dolls, and it was really fun. I have really fond memories of G2 and that's what made me rejoin the community recently, obviously since im younger than a lot of current fans I'll have a somewhat different opinion but, G2 really wasnt that bad, i rewatched the movies and i can say they are DEFINITELY not as good as i remember them being (since i was 7 of course), but they still had charm to them and i actually really liked the animation style. I wish they didnt change the story so much but the concept of them having to find and rescue other monsters and just bringing eachother together was really cute. The dolls were a bit too cutesy but my main issue is the limited mobility a lot of them had, like no joints, it was very annoying. But the dolls were still cute and i never really understood all the hate G2 faces. A lot of criticism is very valid but i dont believe it was THAT bad. Being a bit older now, G2 is definitely last on my ranking of the generations but i still appreciate the charm and the few new characters that were added.
Kelpie Blue gives off pre G3 Lagoona Blue. But G3 Lagoona pulled the pastels and bright esthetic the best. The Core Refresh dolls for G3 is a HUGE improvement from the Core Base ones.
I did really love the animation style of G2, it was jarring to see the change as a kid, but in hindsight I really love the way the faces look and the smooth animation. Also I actually really liked the electrified outfits.
The web series art style looks quite nice to me but the choppy animation makes me uncomfortable I get it’s a stylistic thing but it makes it look cheap. Like if you want to do a more cartoony style animate in 2s or even 3s in some parts like how spiderverse does
In a vacuum, the g2 dolls are generically cute But they aren't in a vacuum, and "generically cute" is not what l wanted from monster high. And l say that as someone who was very much in the target audience at the time
17:19 Spectra from Temu LOL. The absence of Ghoulia is one of the things that were missing in G2 and I didn't like that. It's like they forgot about her. Some of the characters stayed the same such as Toralei, Twyla, Gil etc. which did make it feel like a reboot unlike a new gen. The outfits were missing their monster aesthetic. I'm guessing that Silvi loves neon colours. The patterns on her dress are called Houndstooth a clothing pattern that originated from Rotland(Scotland). Moanica would fit perfectly in G1. She would be great friends with Toralei and the werecats or Gory. They would cause alot of chaos and Toralei would teach Moanica how to be a competent villian. It is also revealed that Monica's related to Ghoulia.
tbh i didnt eveb know about g2 til a few years ago. i dont remember like seeing advertisement for it or anything. i feel like g1 got a lot of unnecessary hate just for being different. ive heard a lot of parents say that the dolls were scary looking. like yea they are monster teenager but even still they didnt look scary(to me anyway). and the thing about the body type. literally every doll i have come across all were skinny and slim but once monster high came out then it was a problem? what about barbie or bratz? they are all skinny but no one made a fuss from my knowledge.🤷🏾♀️
I mean... I mean it was.. Idk i see them doing this in G1 movies in the g2 movies or smth but is it me or does draculauras g2 outfit looks better then the g1 😭
I think its funny how each generation switches the main character if there's a new gen4 in the future it might be cleos time to be an main character or lagoona but most likely cleo 😂
well, to be honest I'm kinda in the mah, I mean is upsetting that g1 monster high had to end like theirs something wrong with your body but in realty, theirs nothing wrong with it, but at least g3 did a better job, but nothing will con pear to the classic g1 monster high, I miss it so much just like ever after high, I just wish it was back as a reboot not another descendants movie, what has this world coming to, I just want ever after high back, I never got the ever after high dolls in my life, and I'm jealous that I don't have ever after high dolls, I sure wish I had some to make my ever after high collation, but like I said I think is mah for me I don't care about the g2 monster high is complexly broken anyways, until g3 saved the day and everybody loves it more then g2 not much as g1 been so popular in the days, anyways can't wait for the ever after high special rank (by the way my favorite is the dragon games because of my number one best ship Dapple or Appleling) and one more thing, if Mattel is trying to make a new generation, just make it like g1 monster high does for the audience why they love g1 monster high, that's all see you with the ear after high raking
I liked Gen 2 but my biggest problem with it is that they got rid of so many characters, they did keep some characters like Torali,Venus,Twyla,Duece,Gill,Abby,Opporetta, Catty and others but gave no new personality.
i think my biggest problem with the g2 outfits and designs were really the color choices, something about them just rubs me the wrong way. obviously theyre also cheap looking and often arent fitting to the characters or the franchise at all, but as an artist and a lover of all things colorful, a bad color palette is basically a crime. that said, and i hate to praise g2, i actually do like the 3D animation. i dont think its necessarily fitting of monster high, but it is good nonetheless.
I actually really like G2 but only for the art style and Twyla (plus her chemistry with Frankie lol). I still prefer their old outfits and wished they didn't remove so many characters nor their original story
I think my last doll from the G1 line was Jane Boolittle (can't remember if that's a correct name, it has been so long). When they released G2 line I mainly saw only the new cute faces and just stopped caring about the franchise. But I have to say I really like the look of the G2 movies. I find it visually very appealing (except lack of creativity on some outfits). This was a nice dive to G2 and it's history. Now I know more :)
One of the only things I love about this gen was the animation. I really loved the style of it , it kept its monster high charm while also looking more cute and modern
What I find somewhat odd about the g2, namely the web series, is that they didn't continue using the traditional 2D flash animation they've been using throughout the franchise because they even carried this animation style in the "meet the ghouls" shorts where each webisode is based on introducing each ghoul in the new generation (another piece of g2 media that wasn't covered in depth in your video but I don't think it's worth much going over). I can't say that the animation style is better or worse than what was utilized in the "adventures of the ghoul squad" series. Still, I guess they wanted to imitate the movies more closely stylistically with that 3D feel, but otherwise, I'm curious as to why they didn't carry on with that art style.
I think the main problem was with the changing of backstories and relationships and designs like I love Clawdeen and her family in Gen 1, and ever since that era ended, they keep trying to downplay her character by making her half wolf, half human, or some stupid thing, or taking away her love for fashion. I know Gen 2 had that story when they all got struct by lighting or whatever and their clothes magically went neon, but please be for real. Gen 1 had so many stories and character development and stories that people can relate to, like Howleen being overlooked for her big sister, Lagoona and Gil’s relationship and their issue with being an interracial couple, Cleo and Duce’s relationship showing classism with Cleo’s family not liking him for being not proper, and Elisabat is running away from her duty to become queen to do what she wants. Catty wanting a life outside of the spotlight, Torialie finding a found family with the werecat twins like all these stories you can easily relate to even if it’s monsters and their take on hard topics like autism, racism, the hybrids are literally this worlds equivalent to mixed races and them having a problem fitting in but also it’s subtle and not in your face about it unlike gen 3 where they always have to explain what cause they support or spell out their gender and sexuality on their forehead and i understand that a kid show should have diversity but gen 1 already showed it and was able to show it better weather it was a small issue like with Howleen and her being in her siblings shadows or a bigger issue like with the interracial relationships like Lagoona and Gil or Draculaura and Clawd and showing what it's like for some couples to go through that.
The idea of Clawdeen being half human is actually alright by me, MH Prime has done some good with diversity and all, but hey this gen 3 this is for the next generation. Different versions, like you know, iterations, Ninja Turtle Multiverse. You probably get the idea.
5:23 I do agree with the critics. As I still struggle with self body image, it definitely got caused a bit by the doll industry, not only MH btw. All of them being so incredibly skinny, faces stacked with make up and a dress code of.. well you know.. I now still feel the need to be as skinny as I can so I will look ''pretty'' or ''attractive''. You could find them dumb, some might be, but to a child and seeing your favourite character talk about how pretty you SHOULD look body wise.. it was a hard pill to swollow for little me.
I remember they had a movie like. Electrified I think? Where they copied the gimmick of Frankie and the electricity bringing life, except the new one made a baby blob thing out of the electricity, instead of bringing Frankie back to life. I hated it.
Me and my sis were worried about if they could even bring Abbey in given that Yettis now canonically looked like Wooly. My sis didn’t care what Abbey looked like in the end, she just wanted that strong, blunt, easily misunderstood character to come back. She never ever would though, lol. My sis likes the new Abbey doll. but G1 Abbey is the character she cared about
i loved gen1 me and both my older sisters had gotten practically every single gen 1 dolls and i loved the movies and web series. gen2 i didn't even know existed for a looong time- and honestly im not that into it or the dolls. gen 3 is a hit or miss with me. i dont like the way they changed the characters in the movies and show at. all. BUT i do like the dolls. i love the Lagoona design as a SEPARATE character form the actual Lagoona Blue. the doll doesnt feel Lagoona at all but if i think about the doll as a separate character the doll is gorgeous i just cant get over them trying to play these completely different characters off as the og characters
5:16 how bad u have to be on the head to see a doll and say: oh yah, this turn me on to much, this is sutinest sell to girls. like dude....are this people allow near children's?!
I had several issues with it (Frankie no longer being the MC, Ghoulia's removal, new art style), but my biggest one was the "start from scrath" approach. Why not just start off at MH with everyone being friends? Why did they have to build the school and meet each other that way?
Also Draculaura lowkey owning the school like. Literally
Just seemed so weird??? Her dad is the teacher and principal how is this fair LMAO

The whole "this toy makes kids promiscuous and are dressed scandalous" happened since the first Barbie came out same with Bratz 10 years earlier.
Right, it’s dumb to try to appease to the conservatives
Agreed. The adults complaining about the dolls had a gripe with everything. The sad thing is, they were the ones sexualizing these dolls.
How can children even „dress promiscuous”? There’s only one group of people that can sexualize their body to become „promiscuous” and it’s not the dolls.
I wonder if people think the same thing when they give their sons half-dressed male action figures, who are intended to grapple with other half-dressed male action figures
@@strxwbxrry_420 yeah especially if they restle and or do hand to hand stiff with focus on the sweat, blood and them ripping clothes.
I remember being there for the transition, seeing leaks of Draculaura's new design and the look of Welcome to Monster High. I gave it a shot and I remember somewhat enjoying it, but the Adventures of the Ghoul Squad was so meh that I leaved the franchise. But nowadays I came back, I watched the first season of G3 and just started the second one, got a Frankie doll and soon I will get the Twyla one, so all in all, even if G2 was a bad reboot, they tried again and G3 is great
Literally
But G3 is too different, too far to Monster high G1 & G2.
@@adamcurazi2122 yeah, but it's been years since G1 so the transition to G3 is better, G3 even with all the differences still has the same spirit of MH I love and entertainment value that G2 was somewhat lacking
@@adamcurazi2122 what's wrong with that?
@rat_in_a_bucketI agree!
I really love the look of the G2 3D movie. I think it looks way smoother than G3's animation.
@@monochromedream-eatingbaku that's EXACTLY what I think but just couldn't put it into words!
One of my least favorite g3 aspects both g1 and 2 had great animation g3s Nickelodeon animation is ugly af
to be fair, g3s animation gets a much smaller budget cuz it’s a series meanwhile g2’s animated movies actually had a pretty big budget, so that’s kind of like the problem.. especially, if u look at earlier g3 media including dolls, u can kinda notice they really didn’t have that big of a budget either, so they just sticked with the animation they had in the beginning i assume
@@hdlocks yeah, that make sense.
The Last G2 doll lines were:
1- School Spirit
2- Popart Ghouls
3- Howling Hoodles (unreleased)
4- Ghostley Party Tea (unreleased)
5(the Last line)- Rainy Day Ghouls (unreleased)
“Spectra off temu” is foul LMAOO 😭😭
Disney were planning to make a short movie called Princess Academy so that's another reason I think that Disney didn't like EAH. For "stealing their idea"
As an EAH fan, my heart still hurts.....
Like imagine if Franky was a hipster or was really into mustaches or if Dracula was a dork & baby goth and Laguna was swag or was a pink (vs) girl and Claudine was Americana or gyaru idk I feel like there were so many aesthetics of that time they could’ve used and just didn’t (also like duct tape Stuff was also popping at the time like duck tape wallets, dresses I think that would be fun incorporate that maybe I’d come with a doll) Of course some of them would age very poorly but like I feel like they’d get the tumbler girls to buy it (also scene was still a big thing at this time idk why they just didn’t keep with it)
God sorry for writing a poorly worded paragraph
And all I have to say is
Moanica d'kay stole the limelight fair and square and ate every time she was on screen
Moanica will always be superior because she was an actually new character with her own story. ❤
i don't mind G2 (even enjoyed the movies) and G3, my problem is that G1 was simply better.
i especially didn't like how they kept the same characters but completely changed their personalities (like my girls would never do/say x,y and z) so it always feels like they are stepping on my toes.
(i am a big fan of cleo's and deuce's relationship, of course i didn't like that cleo and frankie are all of a sudden a thing. the same goes for clawdeen and toralei)
and my biggest problem is that they aren't fashion dolls anymore!!
i fell in love with them because of their personalities but a huge factor was also how fashionable they are.
i would rewatch the movies just to see their clothes again.
and i especially hate how some people say that they are glad that monster high doesn't focus on fashion as much or at all anymore.
like monster high was for us fashion girlies if you don't like it that's fine but why do you feel the need to take that away from us?
there are tons of girl dolls nowadays that don't focus on fashion.
no need to villainize us or the brand for liking fashion.
and many girl dolls don't do well because they aren't fashionable.
the only reason why they can get away with it nowadays is because there is a lack of it in the market.
if you put a fashion doll next to a non fashion doll of (let's say) barbie, most girls if not all would take the fashion doll.
@@jiggerblayneagreed
Well you see, you should be ashamed of being different from everyone else, ASHAMED!!!
Love your video!! G2 movie art style was gorgeous to me, I actually drew the main ghouls in the G2 art style but with their original outfits!
I would also like to mention the lack of ambient music in this movie, so many awkward quiet moments where there should have been music 😭
@@pleasantlypurrfectThis actually bothered me a lot too. Depending on the copy of the movie you watch, there’s just no background music and it feels, like you said, awkward. The first time I watched the movie it was the BGM-less version, but my second watch through had the score put back in.
I realized a thing:
In every generation of MH we have a different protagonist.
At the beginning of each series/film the story revolves around a particular character
Gen1: we have Frankie as newbie
Gen2: we have Draculaura who welcomes new monsters
Gen3: we have Clawdeen who longs to enter into MH
This is the main trio.
I find it kinda cool, even though it was probably unintentional.
Also I hate gen2 and 3
True! It really is the main ghouls!
Notice they are in the order Fright Song present them. In G4 Lagoona will be the main character and in G5 Cleo. Probably
@@jonal5126 Great Observation!
Claiming that the dolls encourage unhealthy body image is just projecting the parents insecurities on there own children
Hot take: G2 Frankie >>> G1 Frankie. Really shows how much better of a character she can be when she’s not stuck as the face of the franchise.
@@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 Another reason why Freaky Fusion is the best MH movie- it's the closest we really got to exploring Frankie's scare-itage
G 3 (animated series) is definitely the best version of Frankie and it’s kinda fitting she gets better with every gen
That would make Frankie a great foil to her father.
honestly i really liked the movie animation style like.. ik G1 will forever be iconic but i think the style for the movies is rlly charming and cutesy!
Am I the only one who thinks that G2 Lagoona isn't too terrible of a redesign?
not just you - lagoona’s dolls were some of the only g2 dolls i bothered buying at the time. she didn’t look as cutie-fied as some of the other characters.
@@vespiaries Oh! Yes! Their appearance is still spooky ish

@@colin2590 yeah true, but I think if they simply made it a more vibrant blue it still would have attracted a wide audience
i honestly don't hate all of the g2 dolls, there are some solid ones. i just hate the fact they rebooted at all. i would've been less sad if they just stopped making MH g3 will never have the same vibes but i'm much more happy with the current direction of the series as a whole.
@@Boogeyman4511yeah ppl list them under g2 since they relased at that time but in reality their much more g1
8:13 i love her face it looks just like the 2”gen 2 animation
Hot take, I would like a complete revamp with the show, completely new characters, tweaking the old ones just feels like producing subpar versions of them, learning about Moanica felt like a breath of fresh air, finally some good fucking food 👌
I remember when I was watching zootopia when they showed me the first monster high dolls and I was fast forwarding them until the movie came
The designs and faces were good and cute it was almost as g1 ie Lagoona was much better and all of them were modernized.
They're the reasonable complaints, who would dare disagree with "think of the children!?"
But that's exactly it though, those aren't the real concerns. It's baseless virtue signaling. When Bratz came into popularity, it also had its fair share of criticism. Once you dug past the concerns about "body image" and "messaging", all you could find were Christian parents saying that the dolls looked like whores and would tempt your children into sin.--
They said the same things about Barbie too, once upon a time.
We can very easily assume that for MH, it's the exact same case.
17:19 NO WAY ‼️‼️‼️ THEY GOT SPECTRA FROM TEMU ‼️‼️
I personally think the original monster high dolls were the best, I absolutely loved them as a kid, I never had one though because my parents thought the fashion was too emo and didn’t want me to dress or want to dress like them
Bro, I'm now unlocking memories of those g2 movies that I haven't watched since childhood lol

Moanica was definitely my favourite doll from G2.
Just started watching your channel will be subscribing!
Now Lets wait a video about gen3
The web series art style looks quite nice to me but the choppy animation makes me uncomfortable I get it’s a stylistic thing but it makes it look cheap. Like if you want to do a more cartoony style animate in 2s or even 3s in some parts like how spiderverse does
In a vacuum, the g2 dolls are generically cute
But they aren't in a vacuum, and "generically cute" is not what l wanted from monster high.
26:45 idk why but this is so funny to me😭
tbh i didnt eveb know about g2 til a few years ago. i dont remember like seeing advertisement for it or anything. i feel like g1 got a lot of unnecessary hate just for being different. ive heard a lot of parents say that the dolls were scary looking. like yea they are monster teenager but even still they didnt look scary(to me anyway). and the thing about the body type. literally every doll i have come across all were skinny and slim but once monster high came out then it was a problem? what about barbie or bratz? they are all skinny but no one made a fuss from my knowledge.🤷🏾♀️
Karens just couldn't let people enjoy the dolls as they were. It's sad
Oh they made a fuss about those too especially bratz. Said they dressed like wh*res and everything :(
In another universe, monster high would have g2 animation with the main girls powers more utilized, have g1 clothing and g3 body diversity 🙏
I mean... I mean it was.. Idk i see them doing this in G1 movies in the g2 movies or smth but is it me or does draculauras g2 outfit looks better then the g1 😭
Btw, a scene in Hotel Transylvania (bat flight) seem so similar to Welcome to Monster High that I wonder if they took inspiration from it

Ur so underrated 😢

"No way, we got spectra of Temu"😂
I liked Gen 2 but my biggest problem with it is that they got rid of so many characters, they did keep some characters like Torali,Venus,Twyla,Duece,Gill,Abby,Opporetta, Catty and others but gave no new personality.
I kinda liked the animation style of the gen 2 movies. Wished they use it to the gen 3 animation style..
I *also* kida hate the electrified outfits. Especially Frankie's weird frickin ponytail. Who came up with that monstrosity??
i think my biggest problem with the g2 outfits and designs were really the color choices, something about them just rubs me the wrong way. obviously theyre also cheap looking and often arent fitting to the characters or the franchise at all, but as an artist and a lover of all things colorful, a bad color palette is basically a crime. that said, and i hate to praise g2, i actually do like the 3D animation. i dont think its necessarily fitting of monster high, but it is good nonetheless.
So exciting- new body sculpt for us curvy ladies!!
damn this video is fresh
At first I liked g2, but after a while it got so boring I stopped seeing it and left the fandom until g3
OMGGGG, I WASNT EXPECTING THAT PERSONA BACKGROUND
Yes.
wait, G2 Dracula is kind of a DILF.....
Real
I’ll be honest the animation style is my favorite one monster high has used so far. Also 6:13 transmasc tash???
Pointing out Twyla in the back is so real, I love that your persona is her also
YESSSSS HAAAAAAAAA, idk wtf happened or how i became a boogie man fan wtf
I just discovered your channel and I love it😭 will you ever be doing a lil g3 vid?
Hey could u do a video on G3 and what you'd look for in a G4 of the reboot.
That’s an idea I haven’t actually considered yet, I’ll add that to my list of video ideas
17:12 Spectra off temu 😭😭
do you like g3 tywlas design?
Yeah I like her design. I think I prefer the more muted colors of G1/G2 but she still looks great
5:23 I do agree with the critics.
You could find them dumb, some might be, but to a child and seeing your favourite character talk about how pretty you SHOULD look body wise.. it was a hard pill to swollow for little me.
i love the persona 3 reload ost playing in the back
G2 confused me. I love g3 because its normalizing a lot of things and g1 i grew up with. But g2 was just like... there. Didn't love it, didn't hate it
I think g2 dolls are bad the movies are ok but not that good but the 3d web series was good and entertaining
Ghostly tea time and howling hoodies lines were never released.
I remember they had a movie like. Electrified I think? Where they copied the gimmick of Frankie and the electricity bringing life, except the new one made a baby blob thing out of the electricity, instead of bringing Frankie back to life.
I hated it.
g2 in 2d was so fucking iconic
I liked the Ghoul Squad show
Heres the goat 🐐 15:44(she was behind fake Abby)
Me and my sis were worried about if they could even bring Abbey in given that Yettis now canonically looked like Wooly.
My sis didn’t care what Abbey looked like in the end, she just wanted that strong, blunt, easily misunderstood character to come back.
She never ever would though, lol. My sis likes the new Abbey doll. but G1 Abbey is the character she cared about
My dad once described the dolls as this: They show that you can still be fashionable even if you're ugly
❤
i loved gen1 me and both my older sisters had gotten practically every single gen 1 dolls and i loved the movies and web series. gen2 i didn't even know existed for a looong time- and honestly im not that into it or the dolls. gen 3 is a hit or miss with me. i dont like the way they changed the characters in the movies and show at.
Not going to lie, i find the signature look outfit look good, but the animation in the movies are terrible
5:16 how bad u have to be on the head to see a doll and say: oh yah, this turn me on to much, this is sutinest sell to girls. like dude....are this people allow near children's?!
"SPECTRA OFF TEMU" AND THE ATTACHED MEME TOOK ME OUTTTT
