Amazingly simple, this I can do, since involves no cable or complex sequence. Thanks so much my friend. About the flashlight, try using an UV flaslight, it shows LOTS of invisible dust.

Thank you for the tip, I'll try the UV flashlight!

Hi Thanks for a clean and informative video. I seem to have a little fungus on my lens' first element. Will this clean be enough

If you're lucky, then the fungus is on the other side of the front lens element, then you can remove that using this video. If the fungus is between the lens elements in the front lens, then the fungus can't be removed.

Is it the same process for the 24-70mm F4 Canon lens? Thank you so much for the video

Is it okay that only microfiber that cleans the inside of the lens?

      I don't know, I haven't disassembled the f/4 lens.

I wouldn't recommend it, the dust on the lens element could scratch the surface.

Hi there, thanks for the video. I think im gonna try to remove the dust particle like you did. But there one more thing i am not able to focus clearly with this lens. It seems like the lens element is somehow decentralised. Do you know how to resolve this or have you ever dissassembled this lens? I am confused what to do with this lens as the canon repair center refused to repair it because the model is so old.

If you focus manually, and take a photo of a flat surface which is parallel with the sensor (so everything should be in focus), is everything sharp? If yes, then the lens elements are centralised. If one side of the image is sharper than the other, then the problem could be that one of the lens elements are not parallel with the others.

Try different settings of the screw collars... disassemble, change their position, assemble, then test the lens. Takes very long time.
Alternatively, disassemble the lens, remove the USM motor, and zoom the lens back and forth to find out if there is a hole where you have access to the screw collar without completely disassembling the lens... if there is, assemble the lens without the USM motor and the unneccessary covers to mount on the camera, and calibrate the lens similar to the Canon 24-105mm lens.

@@CamerasLensesEtc You mean the screw marks on the front by screw collar? I can't find any. Thanks

    • @CamerasLensesEtc

Sorry, I thought you commented on the disassembly video and you forgot to mark the screws in the aperture unit... my mistake.
In the case of cleaning, test the sharpness of the lens with different settings: set the front lens to the very left or right position, take test photos, move the lens by ~2 millimeters, then take the test photos, then continue until you reach the other side. Then compare the test photos, and you'll see which setting is the sharpest.
Alternatively, you might see the signs of the screw on the side of the front lens element, you might use that position,.

Search for repair parts on ebay or aliexpress... maybe someone has it.

sounds like clouding of the glue on the lens doublet. the one you describe is a known issue with that lens . i have that cloudy flare look to mine as well. i may just sell it for parts. bestbuy is offering 24 month no interest right now
