- Today in 2016, infamous drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was arrested for the final time.
The leader of Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel, the largest and most powerful drug trafficking organisation in the world, had escaped from maximum security prison twice - in 2001 through a laundry cart, and in 2015 through a mile-long tunnel with an entry from his prison cell shower.
The 2015 escape resulted in a bloody third arrest in January 2016, after attempting to run away through a tunnel that led to a sewer system and stealing a faulty car.
At the height of his drug business, El Chapo was the richest drug lord in the world, with over $14 billion to his name. His trade relied heavily on his elaborate tunnel network snaking underneath the US-Mexico border.

He never forced anyone to take drugs it’s individuals choice he just didnt dance the way America wanted him to his arrest just made everything so much worse
Its not just personal choice when the rest of society pays the price. Just the economic cost of addiction alone in terms of lost productivity is staggering, not to mention the toll on families who have to live with the impact of “personal choice”.

Chapo was never the boss of Sinaloa to begin with. He never was. He was like 3rd in command. El Mayo has always been the shot caller and he’ll never be arrested because he’s been working with the DEA and CIA for decades. Chapo was a fall guy. A trophy buck the feds can parade around in order to protect the golden goose. Mayo feeds them more information about other cartels than they could ever dream of. Occasionally he even sacrifices his own shipments to maintain the relationship. Mayos son El Vincentilo cooperated against Chapo at his trial. His original sentence was reduced drastically and he was placed in wit sec. Take a wild guess where he is now? Back with his father running the cartel.
