Great chat guys, lots of good points raised and fun ideas shared. Especially love Agustin's last point at the end there. Spot on. As always, thanks so much for all the time and effort you put in to giving us good content to consume. It's appreciated.
You guys are onto something with the idea of wonder from the 80s movies. It's something I learned in dnd. Mystery, done right, makes people want to learn about the world. But you make something and then move on. It's okay to flesh out a world, but at a certain point a story has to end. I think maybe star wars, being a product, can't ever end so it will just keep going on and on. Even if it was the best stories ever, no one wants to read a book that never ends.
Great conversation as usual guys. I agree with many of your points. Please allow me to add my thoughts. As an adult who didn't connect to Star Wars as a kid, I've come to love SW under Disney. I don't have any nostalgia for the OT. I respect it as the foundation of the franchise, but I'm far more interested in the other stories. So I am very okay with the idea of putting the Skywalker family to rest. However, asking Lucasfilm to not revisit the timeline between episodes 1 and 6 is unrealistic. Lucasfilm will continue to tell stories in that era, but I suggest they cover new characters and don't force everything to tie in to the movies. Any future stories about the original trio of heroes (if they must do them) should be animated. Cast proper voice actors. They can use AI to de-age Mark Hamill's voice if they want. Their OT era stories are well covered in the comics. My favourite Star Wars is animated Star Wars! Clone Wars, Rebels, Visions, Bad Batch are among my favourites. I think animation serves the world and the lore best. The animated series let you see the vastness of the galaxy. Animation is practically limitless. They can go anywhere with the design of the planets, aliens, and cultures. You can go as far as your imagination can take you. For some reason, I think people underestimate animation. They're dismissive of it and yet Lucasfilm tends to take bigger risks in animation. Visions has been the most experimental project. Lucasfilm is more risk averse with live-action. I love TLJ specifically because I was happy to see an established franchise take risks and then they reversed it (which is why Rise of Skywalker is my least favourite saga movie). For better or worse, the animated series improve on and fill in gaps the movies don't have time to cover. As someone else in the comments said, there was a sequel trilogy animated show called Resistance. It was only 2 seasons. The 1st season was set just before Ep. 7. I think it got cut prematurely because of the Ep 8 to 9 pivot. They should have waited until the ST was done to release the show. The actors of Poe and Phasma were even part of the cast. I think the best of SW is in animation. A TV series let's you sit in the world and that's why I enjoy them the most whether it's animation or live-action. The shows seem to be better planned than the movies. Each show can have a different flavour. I don't love every series equally. I've never known any show to be of consistent quality across its whole run. Lucasfilm has to carefully select who they collaborate with. Any known director or writer with their own style has to understand that SW is a brand and they will never have a full creative control. When I've heard of filmmakers who complain about their bad experiences working on major franchises because of lack of control I roll my eyes. Like what did you expect? To the naysayers: Nobody is forcing us to love the D+ shows. To those who don't love it, stick with the SW you do love. There is so much to choose from: movies, shows, comics, video games, and novels. Star Wars is trying to expand. None of the projects are made with you specifically in mind. Don't take it personally. Also, not all SW fans want the same thing. You can only speak for yourself. I'll watch/read whatever I can, then make my own opinion. I'm here for the storytelling. Lucasfilm has the unenviable task of trying to find a calm spot on a choppy sea. I wish them well.
The story brain trust somewhat already exists from my understanding especially with cohesion with the lucasfilm story group. There was sort of a traveling touring exhibit thing a while back which went around the country. It was costumes from the movies
The other thing that people have been clamoring for forever is the Jedi sith wars from the old republic. I’ve loved the high republic and it feels fresh and new and so great but the Jedi vs sith era would be pretty awesome if they could get some good creatives behind it
I’d love to see a House Viszla series focusing on Tarre Viszla, the patriarch of the most famous mandalorian family ever. And maybe get Ethan Hawke to play the role
Great discussion and ideas. I did enjoy them. I lie expanding on the sequel definitely a film with Finn and Poe together! The potential for these ideas is there! I love the world of Star Wars!
My Lucasfilm idea is to have one-off 70 minute streaming specials every year in December. Fulfil all those disparate story ideas that have been mooted and abandoned in a throwaway format as a regular Holiday Special. There was supposed to be a Lando movie, a Droids movie, a Rogue Squadron movie, etc etc, that don't seem to ever be actually happening. Well throw $50m at a one-off and get them done on the Stagecraft Volume, out the door, and then onto the next one. Experiment with styles, plots, characters to focus on, etc; Doctor Aphra, Ewoks on Endor, Qira and Crimson Dawn, another Boba Fett story. Grab the TV directors like Bryce Dallas Howard and Rick Famuyiwa. Just churn them out to keep their oar in.
Disney also needs to make a Star Wars trilogy of movies or a series that isn’t afraid to lean into the darkness and be adult catered too. Something like knights of the old republic but told almost like game of thrones with political intrigue and not afraid of violence. Rated R isn’t a bad thing
😊 46:40 Hector I’m gonna have to disagree with you about the huts. You can easily do Star Wars underworld without dealing with tattooine. The hats have a grip across the galaxy so you could do something with Jabba that expand to another section of their criminal underworld and that’s it. You don’t have to deal with job again because you have other hats you can deal with.
😊 46:20 now as far as Andor inside Star Wars, do you think that they should have different shows available to different age brackets of Star Wars fans and other words more shows like Andor, which is for the more adult fan base but still continue to do stuff for the younger audience like they always done.
😊 hello boys I really want to get your take on a couple things of stuff that you said. 45:00 and regards to the Mandalorian well, you felt it was gonna be a little bit more of like underworld of Star Wars, but then went mythological, do you think that was where they were planning on going all along or that they pivoted to make it more of the Star Wars fantasy type that they think people want.
😊 i’ve been watching Star Wars products for a long time, not obsessively for quite a while and honestly, I haven’t come across a show or a movie that appealed to me as an adult until Andor. Even with shows like the clone wars and bad batch, I couldn’t get into it in my case it’s because it’s animated so I am going to default too, it’s meant for the younger audience and it’s very Jedi driven and sometimes you just kinda have to like you know you gotta let it go. You gotta let the fantasy go.
Couldn't watch live but definitely would put Willow (series) back on Disney plus and greenlight a follow up to the series, the compromise is probably a 4 part miniseries (basically 4 hours to wrap up the narrative) ... assuming you could get everyone back. I am fine with them never telling more stories featuring the Skywalker family. That said I do agree with Dan, if they do continue to tell live-action stories with those characters the need to recast. It allows for new generations to both experience those characters and new actors to step into those roles. I love Hamill, Fisher, and Ford and everything they brought to those characters but those characters are more than those actors and while I don't need more stories with them, Disney is going to keep telling them in live-action and I think they should give new talent (not established actors) a chance to play Luke, Leia, and Han. If you are okay with Glover being Lando then you should be okay with Luke, Leia, and Han being recast. I just think they need to be not established, like the original cast. while they had be in some things and some came from hollywood royalty, they were not famous before the roles.
I would make comics, novels and games no longer canon so they can experiment. Then adapt the stuff that works into movies and TV that are official canon.
hmm cooking special in 3D only if it's in smello-vision. BTW Star Wars is such a vast universe. you finds tons of stories to tell in it. but please put the Skywalker-Saga to rest.
😊 you see my issue with Star Wars as a franchise is that it will try to mosh together more adult oriented concepts with young adult adventures. Like if you’re gonna make a Star Wars movie to appeal to 10 to 15 year olds that’s great, but also put out movies for those who are 20 and above who understand that it doesn’t have to always be about the fantasy I think that’s where rogue one was trying to go and I don’t think they really thought of the target audience the right way. Andor is clearly made for adults not for kids.
For Star Wars, it feels like the lore is just a mess. There needs to be at least 3 or 4 distinct 'brands' - a la Star Wars legends, a la Marvel Spotlight - where clearer signals can be sent to fans (non-toxic, non-disingenuous, non-review-bombing "fans") about when stories will be closest in spirit to the OG trilogy and prequels, vs. the clone wars / filoniverse sorts of things, vs. the 'legends' or EU or other books/comics sorts of settings. Acolyte faked me out by supposedly being a 'jumping on point' for someone like me who hasn't kept up with much and was supposed to be high republic era stuff and ended up just leaving me confused about what lore I needed to know to really 'get it'. Star Wars needs a grand reset if there's going to be room to create the next clone wars or next prequels or other next sort of generational touchpoint, the Star Wars for the newest fans who didn't grow up with any of it.

Love your guys conversation, sad I couldn’t catch it live!
Can we please have shortround take over as Indian Jones please? I loooove that idea that someone presented
If I ran Lucas Film….I would create a black and white noir show. It would star Plo Koon, and the soundtrack would be exclusively trip hop
The other thing that people have been clamoring for forever is the Jedi sith wars from the old republic. I’ve loved the high republic and it feels fresh and new and so great but the Jedi vs sith era would be pretty awesome if they could get some good creatives behind it

Star wars : Resistance is a pretty good build up to the Sequels!!!
