I am lucky. My husband treats me with respect. He will buy me a small gift nothing expensive or a flower just to say thank you for all you do for me when I least expect it. We will be shopping and take me to a new sandwich shop or restaurant. He has always helped me around the house. He will vacuum or help dust or wash dishes. He cares for me when I get ill. When our boys were small he was a great father. He helped with them. We both worked outside the home. I always let him know that I appreciated anything he did to help me. Now we are old and still help each other. We have been married 52 years this coming June.
You have the marriage we all dream of.

I met them both while working at a hotel in Tokyo, Japan back in 1991. She was very quiet, and he was very friendly. He came back to the hotel a couple more times after that on his own. He was probably my favorite celebrity guest. He was very down-to-earth. We all loved him at the hotel.
Randy Gerber didn’t have a big ego like Gere did. Big egos seem to have multiple partners till they get older, then settles down with someone.
Always liked Cindy Crawford! She has stood the test of time! I saw her on all kinds of fashion mags in the 80s when I was a teen! She's a great business woman and knows how to take care of herself! I think they were not meant to be. They got married when she was still finding herself as a person and they didn't form any friendship as she said which is the most important thing for a marriage to last. So they moved on and she found her true soul mate who is also her best friend. And Gere is happily married to a Spanish woman with two kids together so that was their destiny just not for each other. Sometimes in life you have to try something out to find out if it works or not

my husband is 20 years older and we are still happily married after 17 years
my late husband was a lot older than me but age was never an issue in our marriage.
All couples are different. That was Cindy's experience with a man older than her, the same has happened with other women, the age gap can be too much for some of us.
My wife is 19 years junior than me, her mom is older than me 7 years only (we dated for 5 years and then married). Now, we've 17 year old talented son. So, our relationship is 22 years and counting. True love, loyal to each other then there'll be romance all the time.
For all the people who come on here and talk about how their large age gap relationship is so great… Your anecdote does not make a statistic. Your anecdote does not make some thing untrue for someone else.

I read an interview frlm Gere years ago where he mentioned that her not being Buddhist had something to do with why he felt the relationship failed.

He just wanted a pretty young female on his arm. Came to hate being given ultimatum and hated that he allowed himself to marry knowing he didn't want to. Age had nothing to do it. The girlfriend or boyfriend should never give an ultimatum.
If you have to give an ultimatum there’s very long odds for success.
Sadly, females are not just fashion accessories. He didn't have to marry her. She explained to him that the alternative was that they would just move on. If she wanted a family and he did not, that would be a major difference between them. Females have to make a calculation, if they want a family, because their fertile years are more limited than men's.

Opting for tinfoil rings for a marriage ceremony was already a disaster, to start with. In the first place, she tried to hook him by giving an ultimatum because he was famous. She learned her lesson and with her looks, she could easily find a new partner.
They had different interests and there was no friendship. She admitted it. They were not compatible.
Cindy Crawford was a huge star in her own right when they started dating. Probably the highest paid supermodel at that time. It’s a grave error to say she wanted to marry him because he was famous. She wanted to be married and if it wasn’t with him, it was going to be with someone else. I agree that the unconventional marriage didn’t help, it seemed she was still setting for less than what she really would have like. No women dreams of getting married in secret with tinfoil rings! 😂 She should have said “thanks but no thanks.”

Rumors are very painful. We all want privacy, but we also want to feel like we can go anywhere together. Sometimes the rumors work to destroy the person or the relationship. Sometimes they basically backfire.
I think Richard thought he could mold her into his perfect mate and at first she was willing, but he just kept getting more and more cutting in his criticisms of her. She’s not the Stepford wife type. He brutally criticized her for not pronouncing (or maybe it was spelling) the word ephemeral correctly. He’s a high maintenance type through and through. Now he’s with someone from a totally different culture who is not likely to react to his passive aggressive behavior or even recognize it as such.
I believe Gere is a bit narcissistic...meaning he NEEDS someone he feels he has control over.

This happens all the time in Hollywood. Its a meat market. Many high profile couples move to other states, and seperate their personnel lives, from the prying eyes of Hollywood. It seems like a healthy thing to do. There r many showbiz people living in quiet CT.

I think if your not the exception, marriage kills love. Slow or fast. Men tend to have the idea o nce they have married you , you belong to them like a vehicle. Love dies, it requires attention. It can be different for each couple. I don’t believe marriages is hard unless you married a person that smacks right into one of your walls. When our first child was born it changed nothing in my husbands life and everything in mine. Postpartum depression is terrifying.
Marriage doesn't kill love it tests it and makes it authentic...it smacks lust in the root... and forces reality to set in... real people can make it work for the most part... and my hats off to those authentic souls

It's more intimate and special even your name changes. At least for the women. Marriage is life changing and it may not be for everybody. But marriage it's suppse to unite you even to a stronger bond. It's never meant to destroy your relationship. Some people are just not mature enough or they didn't know what they were getting into. It's another level a more serious one. Even gay people had to fight for that right to be able to marry. Marriage is valuable and worth it.

I was a young teenager when Cindy and Richard were together, and sad when they broke up. Whilst Cindy has still remained looking attractive and hot (no doubt with the help of some surgery), Richard has not aged as well. I like when couple's who separate are open about what went wrong, and not just sugar coat it like 'Oh we are still the best of friends' etc.
