Wow! Whatever you think about the Catholic Church, you have to thank them for not only creating this, but for preserving it for 13 centuries. As a Northumbrian myself I’m surrounded by the remnants of ancient churches, monasteries, cathedrals and other sites of religious significance.
There is an excellent and informative chapter on Codex Amiatinus in Christopher De Hamel’s “Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts: Twelve Journeys into the Medieval World.”
The expression in the thumbnail was me wrapping up today's studies. 😂 I always miss Dr. Zucker when he's gone, but Dr. Breay's accent and boots cannot be denied! I can't believe the dimensions of this thing... And Ceolfrith might be among the top 3 coolest names ever.
If you look closely you can actually see a slight darkening of the page around those red words that indicates an earlier erasure by pen knife. I would assume that they've probably also done some chemical and ultra violet testing to be able to determine the original wording.

That is a huge book, especially for how old it is! Very impressive!

That’s a big book!
Nice: Thanks.
I'm just here to learn.
Love this but one little thing it’s saint Aidan with an A and not saint Aiden (2:51) :)
They don’t say if this Bible has been or going to be digitised?
It is available in printed form: the Weber-Gryson Vulgate

Strange that this video is a duplicate.. I should've known there was a reason I was alone in the previous one. 😅

Fascinating - how was it determined that the script had been changed? (Did I miss something? :-) )

@@Lambonius Thank you - I couldn't tell if the darkening was simply my computer screen, or if I was seeing an actual slight change in the light. :)
