I was brought up on Broadhursts gingers biscuits, Sadly no longer available but still remember the taste. Have to make do with cheaper alternatives these days. Only allowed two biscuits a day wih my current diet but at least I'm losing weight! Been camping since I was a small child. If our "summer" weather improves may try a night out soon. Thanks for the videos. Much appreciated. Regards Lynton.
Thumb's up for being resilient in that bad weather , the around zero temperature is one of the worse condition to manage . Changing to dry clothes as soon as possible is the key , as another one mentioned in the comments. You have a new sub here from Québec ( Canada ) , thanks for the video
Betcha you was spewing no gloves and hand and feet warmers were left behind 😮 Iuse one of those Yeti mugs with the plastic sliding cover and they keep your tea and chocolate hot for ages !! Cheers 🍻
Hey Able, loving your videos. Was a bit worried watching this video you were clearly very cold and not fully copus mentos until after you ate. I see earlier comments about not being able to dry out in the cold. And I’ve watched much more recent videos and you have certainly changed your processes. By the way congratulations on your marriage and baby🎉
Good morning happy Wednesday. Thank you for beautiful video. Me and my husband we like the video. Pass our Regards to Victoria from fiji lsland labasa ❤❤❤
I sweat quite a lot and its a real issue in the cold when out camping. I use technical (non-down) jacket so when the jacket gets wet with sweat it still keeps me warm and I also never use wool since once wet it takes a long-long time to dry out. I really appreciate the effort in you filming this but please stay safe!!
I’m going to try a new strategy. Fleece on walk in and use my blue raincoat if I need too. Once I get to camp right a way grab from my pack my new down jacket which is water proof and 200 grams of down. Once I have tarp and tent set up I can get on my lighter weight down jacket on underneath my new bulky one. Maybe get a dry base layer on somewhere. I will have over 300 grams of down on and a waterproof layer so that should be way better when I’m sitting around not moving much. The wool is kinda useless comfy to sleep in once in the tent. I am probably going to need a bigger back pack.
@@AbelandVictoria A bigger back pack! I know I sound old - and I am - but watch out for your knees and hips now so they don't crap out in your 40's and you can't do this anymore.
Hi Abel love your Camp site just a tip if you have a bigger tarp to cover the whole tent I think it gives you a lot of protection. Against. Rain and snow 😊
Yes so not got to end of your vid yet but you was talking about keeping warm, so if you didn't know fill your Nalgene bottle up and stick it in your bag it will defo help
Yeah I did that for Victoria a few vids back. I was ok once inside the tent. Outside there was a bit of wind chill and I was damp. Next snow trip I’ll bring my warmer pants and another mid layer or purchase a warmer down jacket
Hi Victorian, able. Love you video suggest something for setting up the tarp . I saw this on AB camping . Tony uses a carbon extension pole, help put the tarp up a bit better . I have adopted this tactic and it makes the top set up lot. Better. Keep on making great videos.
*_Obviously I like the way you set up the camp, by setting up the flysheet first, when you set up the camp in the middle of the snow, my natural friend Abel..., where's Victoria?_* 👍
Man that's a lot of snow, whole lot colder down south then it is here in Waikato. Seriously need to bring bacon into the huts more, just to wind up folks (insert humorous evil laugh). Congratulations on the 50th video.
I really like my furnace lt down jacket from bushbuck it folds up in to one of it's pockets had it down to -5c, only down side heavy cause it's a touch over built and has pit zips. (also apparently raincoat level water proof never tested it out that part in a full on down poor yet.)
Yeah dump was bigger then I thought it would be. I hope it’s a sign on things to come this winter. Bacon and eggs is a treat so nice lol. Yeah I have seen some down jackets with waterproof outers. This could be good for me. Setting up in the snow after hike in gets cold fast. Ideally I need the lightest stuff possible as I take so much gear unfortunately it means expensive also. Rab and mac pac have a few decent options I think
For the non-Kiwis watching this - he's not exaggerating the hypothermia risk here. In these conditions just hovering around the freezing point, everything is damp and this makes it really hard to get warm once you chill off. Essentially you are close to 100% humidity and nothing, will dry. Especially not your sweat. At lower temperatures say below -20degC there is almost no water left in the air and everything becomes bone-dry which makes staying warm a lot easier if you have the correct equipment.
@@AbelandVictoria When I was leading tramping trips years ago I learned the same lesson myself. As soon as we stopped in rough conditions like this, everyone had to be either active doing something like firewood foraging or fetching water - OR getting under shelter and into dry clothes. Delaying, even just 10 mins or so, and early hypothermia was not far away.
Loving that tent, it’s orange colour, the sauce containers and camera light?, I’d need a winter mat (R?) before I’d consider that. All the best for your upcoming wedding, didn’t your mates want to come out on your snowy Bucks night? 😂
