  • This car is featured in the rarest color code 76 Daytona Yellow. Only 2,184 total Daytona Yellow 1969 Chevelles in all body styles were sold. This is also 1 of only 400 units sold in 1969 SS396 Chevelles featuring the special hi performance L78 396 engine with the upgraded L89 aluminum cylinder head option. Quite possibly less than 5 ever assembled with these options and ever fewer than 5 examples exist today. Other driveline options include the original M21 muncie 4-speed transmission and original KK code 4.10 positraction rear axle,

    My brother had a jade green '69 SS 396 back in 1970. I don't think there was anything rare about it, but it was a 4 speed. He built the engine to the MAX with a nasty sounding cam and a tunnel ram intake.
    I rode in it one time with him driving, and that was enough for me.....every shift, it sounded like, and felt like it was on ice.....Keystone Classics all around, that was a beautiful car..

    This reminds me a little of a C2 Corvette (not sure what year) I saw running around my neighborhood a few times as a little kid in the early '80s. Flared rear wheelwells, Stinger hood, side pipes and it was covered in murals of desert mountains, sunsets, baying coyotes, etc. I think the underlying paint color was a yellow-gold or yellow if I recall. Only saw and heard it rumbling by maybe 2 or 3 times and never encountered it again. Wonder if it's still out there somewhere in the world....maybe it's even languishing in a garage with that same old period custom paint job! There were still plenty of street machines and street freaks done in the '60s and '70s roaming the streets when we Gen Xers were impressionable young'uns.

    Friend of mine had a 69 post SS 396 Silver, M-21, 4:10 gears L78, or so we thought. He blew the engine up in 1970. He and his dad had a time with Chevrolet when he blew the engine and tried to get Chevrolet to replace it. This car was beating 440 GTX's and Hemi Roadrunners on the street. Chevrolet said the engine he blew up wasn't supposed to have that engine and they were not going to warranty the engine. We never did figure out which engine it had. He said Chevrolet finally said it was an experimental, or preproduction engine of some sort. No Aluminum heads. The replacement was a 402 and didn't run near as well as it had before. This car was traded in and we have no idea where this car wound up. But it didn't have it's original engine anymore. If I'm remembering it did have the chambered exhaust, guages, bench seat no console. We had a lot of fun though running cars at night on the unopened interstate. Saw this video, and it brought back memories. Thanks for keeping memories alive.

    I LOVE the 70s custom paint job on this EXTREMELY rare Chevelle. If it gets restored, I hope it's repainted the same way since it most likely spent most of its life that way. On the other hand, I can't imagine how hard it would be to find someone able to replicate the airbrush work or, how much it would cost!

    Hi Patrick. I love your Chevelle Videos. I have a 69 Chevelle Butternut Yellow with black vinyl top and black Interior. It is a 307, but I wish it had the 396 big block. It is an Atlanta built Chevelle and was purchased new at Hall Chevrolet in Cleveland, TN. It is almost all original paint car with very little rust. I know you are a big block Chevelle guy, but if you are ever in Ohio, I love for you to see it. Great video on the Daytona yellow 396/375.

    I ordered 1968 my first new car. A 1968 Chevelle SS396, 396/375, M22 9 (early one 1st gear whined), 4:10 posi, Disk brakes, console, am radio, 8-track under the dash, horizontal GM tach. Color Fathom Blue (very dark almost black) and black interior. I saw 2 L89 Chevelles that year, both of them the dealers the installed the aluminum heads. How come you never mentioned the deep pulleys were missing< I know you mentioned the water pump and alternator replaced but never the easy giveaway of the deep groove pulleys.

We mistreated that car badly but were ripped off when he went to build the engine. Then he lost interest and the car was scrapped. Sad day indeed. Best lookin chevy body style there was.

    I am glad the hobby has evolved to keeping the “patina “ on found muscle cars, and hopefully people will keep the retro paint.
    Removing badging was more likely giving the car a slick look, rather than a disguise. Back in the early 80’s it was all about the paint scheme, rather than the car so much

      When I start a motor that I know hasn't ran for a long time, I always pull the distributor and prime the oil system for a while. Even then there can be rust on cam lobes.

    • @ericblom9568
      @ericblom9568 ปีที่แล้ว

      The valve-train noise is a given, not to mention what could be one hell of an exhaust leak! I always like to use the oil-primer tool that spins the oil pump via a drill thru the "lightining-whirler" hole and primes the lifters/pushrods. 5 minutes of time can save 2.5 hours of tear-down & a CHUNK of coin on a rebuild....
