He may be one of the best of all time, but calling him "underrated" is a straight up lie, he is highly respected by many, many fans. That is a slap in the face to many drummers who are actually underrated.
I know, right? I never really listened to him that closely but rediscovered S.O.D and had forgotten how ridiculously amazing he was on 'Speak English or Die!'
Charlie's got one of the deepest pockets in thrash...no matter how fast he's playing, there's always a pocket with groove. I love Dave Lombardo (as does everyone), but Charlie is right there with him in terms of the Big Four drummers...plus he's tighter, more consistent tempo-wise, and his hands are just as good. Great video. Diaz, Skolnick, and Benante killed it.
@@dorian2112 Nice! I was only a young kid in the '80s...I wish I'd been a bit older to have really experienced the heyday of metal back then. I've pretty much gotten to see all those classic bands since, but not in their primes.
Charlie's defo up there with the top metal drummers but people also forget he's a great guitarist, think he played lead guitar on a lot of Anthrax's albums as well as the SOD albums
The good news is that you often find this in comments for metal music. People come to listen because they love it and them the like to talk about how they love it!
The best album that suicidal tendencies did was the art of rebellion and the rhythm section was Robert Trujillo and Josh freese you can't get any better than that. And then with infectious grooves you had Robert Trujillo and Josh Paul both amazing With the incomparable Brooks wackermen and Josh freese. I like The 1st infectious grooves album ( With Stephen perkins) and groove family psycho was a great 1, but mas barracho was it! But in the latter years Ra Diaz is certainly a mind blowing experience especially with Dave Lombardo( king doublebass)
These are seriously the best collabs I’ve seen in this lockdown period. I’ve been an Anthrax fan since Spreading the Disease and you don;t look any bloody older Charlie. Or slower come to that. 😂
Wow what a surprise, one of my favorite thrash metal drumer Mr Charli Benante playing together with the lead guitar of one of my favorite metal bands Testament, Mr Alex Skolnick, (by the way Alex, your 28th feb Testament concert in Madrid was f…ing great and the last concert I had before all this shi…started) and playing one of the best ever rock bands, Rush!!! you guys made my day and I really love to see when different musicians get together and enjoy music just for the fun, thanks for sharing this!!! Miguel from Spain.
What do you mean Skolnick is underrated? He is arguably only internationally known for not only his playing capabilities in Testament. But, he's a jazz, jazz fusion, blues, etc guitarist who works for a number of companies all over the world. There isnt a guitarist or musician alive who hasn't heard or knows who Alex Skolnick is.
Alex looks bored here...he is on the level of guitarists like Gary Moore and Yngwie. Lifeson is a great guitarist..he became second fiddle in the 80s and got put on sequencer/keyboard duties and barely did any soloing. His guitar playing ability is probably better than what we hear in Rush but the music never really showcased it
@@netrioter I'm sorry for you but Alex may be bored or not bored, if his technique is weak, nothing will change it, only improving by hard working. Once you learn a thing properly, even being almost dead you won't make mistakes that newbies who have no technique make. Watch Paul Gilbert's cover of this song to see the difference between having a technique and not having it.
Phenomenal cover ! It's pretty ballsy to do ANY Rush cover based on the skill level required to do it and the passion Rush fans have for perfection.. WELL DONE !! From a Rush fan AND metal fan :)
That was excellent! Old Rush fan like me gets a real kick out of watching some great and familiar musicians doing a cover and doing it so well. I've been listening to quite a bit of Anthrax, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies in my time. I know some of your history and I'm sure Rush has been an important band for us all. Love the Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage teaser at the end!
Thanks guys! Really been enjoying all of these videos. A real bright spot in a pretty dark time. Thank you Charlie and Alex and Ra and Scott and Dan and everyone involved.
Dude, this is awesome. I've been so sad since Neil Peart passed away. I always wanted to see Rush, and just never got around to it. I grew up with these guys. I'm 48 and still have Moving Pictures on the original vinyl album I got as a kid. Still to this day one of the best albums I've ever heard, period.
Charlie! Love this series man, maybe some other cool songs.... fast as a shark, love gun, maybe some s.o.d. ? Rush rules, thanx for all of you... also.. faith no more would be nice
Charlie you're a legendary player and your playing is awesome on this...but...I have to say I am surprised how electronic those Roland's sound. Looks like a top notch kit too. The rolls in particular, you can really hear the samples
I’ve never forgotten how great a guitar player Alex Skelnik is but goddamnit! You are the shit and diaz on the bass, you’re the best. Charley Bonati I remember meeting you at dinner in Carol Stream Illinois for Thanksgiving dinner. You guys are fucking awesome! Kirk Behrendt says hey!
January 28th 2024... I still can't get enough of this shit !!!!! Thanks again fellas. 🥰🥰😁😁😁
Same, still watching it:P
Holy crap. So awesome. Makes me tear up
Bass player is KILLING IT
And Skolnick..
And Charlie "dont cheat" B!
Charlie you are the best !
Damn Charlie is a beast!
As a 49yr old Rush fan who still has my boyhood CASSETTE of Moving Pictures ... this brought me such joy. THANK YOU BOYS
Im sure Neil is jamming along there on the flip side. 👍
47 here, Rush fan since 1986, Presto was my first concert as well. Got a small electric kit which I may have to bring back out. Thanks guys!

Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for saving my ears from boredom!
They’ve got that Rush chemistry down perfectly. They should start their own power trio once quarantine is over.
THE most underrated drummer in all of Metal history, period! God bless the man.
He may be one of the best of all time, but calling him "underrated" is a straight up lie, he is highly respected by many, many fans. That is a slap in the face to many drummers who are actually underrated.
God doesn't exist.
Hell yeah guys!
Crushed it...super bad ass!!
Kickass. Charlie Benante is among the top drummers, ever.
I know, right? I never really listened to him that closely but rediscovered S.O.D and had forgotten how ridiculously amazing he was on 'Speak English or Die!'

love Dave, but prefer Charlie, i like his precision and attack. saw him back in 89/90? sunken gardens in SA Tx he killed!! POT tour i believe.

I'm not sure that Charlie is the Greatest Metal Drummer of All Time, but I can't think of 5 that are better.
Charlie's defo up there with the top metal drummers but people also forget he's a great guitarist, think he played lead guitar on a lot of Anthrax's albums as well as the SOD albums
For pure metal, especially thrash, I go with Dave Lombardo. But overall skill? Definitely Charlie.
this is the first time i read an entire comment thread and " EVERYONE" agrees with one another .....WOW !!!
Awesome job guys .
The good news is that you often find this in comments for metal music. People come to listen because they love it and them the like to talk about how they love it!
this song is so fucking amazing! thrash metal monsters playing rush is perfect
Alex Skolnick is by far one of my favorite guitarist.
How is it Suicidal always grabs the best bassists🤘
Ra is probably the best bassist they’ve had after Louiche Mayorga
great bassists
it's the infectious groove CYCO MYCO has with bassists!!!!

Yeah...Charlie looks like he's 27, not 57. And the way he creates Neil's sound with a kit that's one-third the size...BRILLIANT!

What we dream of sounding like, when we play along to RUSH. Pure magic🙏🏾🤘🏾✊🏾
Fucking spot on! Everyone’s performance was top notch!!!! More!!!
Skolnick is a seriously underrated guitarist. Anthrax/Testament/Suicidal Tendencies is an awesome combination.
nice joke
