You might love the blog Restoring Ross. He has a giant 1890s house that he's renovating. He layers in different period styles because, as he said, the house went through all those periods. The way he puts a Sputnik chandelier in a Victorian parlor is amazing!
I’m definitely breaking the first rule! My apartment is a Victorian and the living room is completely that style, I think that’s the artist in me wanting to just exist in a time capsule 🧍🏻
You won my heart when you criticized painting antiques! I think it is a crime against humanity. And I well remember on an old episode of "Antiques Roadshow" the episode in which a couple found out they had essentially destroyed a priceless antique tallboy by refinishing it. The value went from hundreds of thousands of dollars to barely hundreds of dollars.
I worked for an elderly couple and their wanna-be posh daughter would go around 'chopping' all the cushions I had just straightened (in between taking photos of her cocktails). Drove me wild :)
Your unpopular opinion about glass top tables is very popular with emergency room doctors. Children run into and fall on glass top tables all too often. Lots of work for plastic surgeons.
Amen! Let’s not paint those timeless antique pieces! Totally agree that it only makes sense when it’s beyond hope and painting will freshen it up to save it from the landfill. You are so right about glass tables, too.
Thank you for calling out the antique/MCM furniture painters!!! Nothing gets me more heated than seeing beautiful furniture covered in chalk paint. I’m all for painting the furniture with one foot in the landfill and the other on a banana peel, or the ugly Henry Link French provincial, stuff that needs repairs and is beyond restoration. Some of the MCM pieces I see being painted just need teak or Danish oil to be brought back to life and could be sold at top dollar, instead the value is decreased by slapping paint on them. Please people, stop painting beautiful furniture!
I love what you have to say, so true to what you are saying! You are my favorite designer out here! And I agree with some of the other comments down below, sick of these weird looking vases and those ones with the faces some are creepy looking.
Absolutely agree about not painting antique furniture! Some cheaper pine pieces or severely damaged furniture can be painted , no problem, but not the beautiful expensive exotic wood.
I agree when it comes to mixing styles. I don't mean a mish mash, but I loathe furniture sets. I love it to look as though I chose pieces over separately over time, and while they may not be the same style, the furniture/art somehow works well together. As for something I am so tired of, you mentioned it... I'm tired of this business of painting furniture white and then "distressing" it. If I'm going to paint, I want it to look fresh. To my eye, that chippy look just makes furniture look like junk. No self respecting farm woman would deliberately do that to her furniture. 😬
Have to agree with you on the painting antique furniture, I myself does not like bare wood looks, but I do feel you’re removing the history of a piece when you paint it. Also, the distressed, chippy paint and stencil looked has always looked, in my opinion, tacky or run-down.
I totally agree. I have a Jonathan Adler Sputnik chandelier. It’s like a sculpture. The other part of house more traditional. But hate that look of everything from same era. Mix it up. I do have sets, but you can’t tell. Does not look like catalog. I also have huge Ethan Allen glass table in living room. I just spray down every few days:). I also hate ANY painting over of ANYTHING.
One of your best videos, Garrett. I, too, can not understand why some people feel obligated to turn one thing into something it was never meant to be. I am a huge fan of the Spanish Colonial/Revival home and I saw one these iconic architectural works stripped of its historic value here in Phoenix. The wrought iron staircase, the front door (including strappings) and the tile in the bathrooms were painted in blue/gray auto paint. Wood built-in's were painted over in high gloss white and the gothic-arched fireplace had all its tiles removed to have a "clean look" . I asked the realtor if these things were done because of damage and they said no, the owner was a younger couple who wanted a industrial look. Such a shame as I know that with some real planning, that style could have been incorporated without losing the integrity of the 100 year old home.
OMG! I actually thought there was something wrong with me because when I see people painting over this beautiful antique furniture I want to cry. And as I’m watching I’m crying out WHY!!!? Thank you 😊 love your videos. Keep up the good work
OMG THANK YOU!!! I've collected REAL antiques beautiful early Americana pieces. And I've seen people slap crap paint on it, they have no idea what they have or what they've done.
Ahh the painted antiques!!!! Yes, sometimes vintage/antique can be damaged and a fresh coat of paint will extend the life of the piece. But sometimes a good cleaning and polish is all that is needed.
Your content is the best Garrett. I think you're the only one that actually saves us money and saves us from ourselves! Thanks for clearing all the noise and giving direct clarification. Don't ever change kitten 💗
Bless you Garrett for standing up for the ending of antique furniture abuse! If people truly understood the loss of value they create perhaps they'd stop it. I didn't make the rules I just know what they are. Original surfaces are valuable. As a Historic Furniture Conservator I find it literally painful to watch the trend of paint and garish stencils covering over the stunning woods. I could end up spending the rest of my life doing original surface recovery if this trend doesn't end soon. I happen to like painted furniture that was intended to be painted originally or even the contemporary mass produced can benefit from a well applied decorative paint. Btw, there is nothing that furniture conservation can't preserve and repair. Nothing.
OH MY GOD! Yes about painting antiques! I get so annoyed when I see people who paint Mid-Century furniture in a shabby chic or farmhouse style. Makes me FURIOUS!
Yes! The MCM drives me crazy! I want to shake people who do this. The beauty of MCM was the warmth of the wood and clean lines, and was sophisticated. Painting them makes them cold and gauche. Whenever I look at pictures of MCM styling, I never see a piece of painted furniture. Whomever started this trend should be slapped with a paint brush.
What a breath of fresh design air you are. I completely agree with what you’ve said. Every truly elegant home I’ve ever seen employs a mix of design eras and styles to make a curated, interesting and delightful space.
Others have said it and I agree! It physically pains me to watch tik tok designers destroy an antique by distressing it and painting it or worse, breaking it down and turning it into something else. Natural wood is SO beautiful! Like that vintage dresser didn’t deserve what you’ve done to it.
Agree about painting beautiful wood. I saw a posting of a woman who used corrugated metal as wallpaper in quite a few rooms. That was going too far in repurposing.
Thanks for your comment Ava! I’m going to try and find that corrugated metal for wallpaper and look at the pictures. Very different. We appreciate you watching and subscribing to our channel! 😀😀😀
Hell yes I couldn't agree more about painting antique furniture! It breaks my heart to see beautiful things destroyed for people who truly love antiques, just so someone who doesn't like antiques can like them. There's enough brand new furniture out there! Sorry rant over. Thank you for another fabulous video Garrett
One thing I always hate to see painted is brick. Especially brick siding. Why take an extremely durable and attractive material, that won't need any maintenance at all for decades, and add paint, which will deteriorate when exposed to the elements and will need to be repainted every few years?
Not only will the paint deteriorate but also the brick. It's actually bad for brick to be painted especially older soft brick because it doesn't allow the brick to release moisture which will cause it to deteriorate faster.
The proper prep and paint can hold up for more than 20 years. Some brick is hideous and deserves to be painted into a fresh clean uniform look!! The right accent color on the shutters, trim and door can produce a really beautiful updated look.
I got a cupboard from my mother-in-law, it probably is from the 1920's or 30's. I'm not going to paint it, even if it doesn't look perfect. Same with my really beaten up desk, a heavy monster with mile deep drawers and a cupboard section to disappear in. My grandfather bought it in his younger days, well before WW2. Not going to get painted, I use it every day for my pc and office activity of any sort. I so do agree with you on this topic!
Eclectic queen here. Not sure if it is good eclectic, but I like it. Art Deco, Art Nouveau, MCM and boho totally go with everything else. It's all in the color pallet and repetition of shapes and textures. And I agree about painting good antiques. I love some of the creations by furniture artists with the sidewalk trash and thrift store pieces, but seeing Sheraton style and other classics get that treatment is sickening. Confession: I have a Sheraton-ish (Federal style for sure) bedroom set in mahogany veneer with hand painted details from the late 1910s. A few years ago I was thinking about painting it ivory and gold for a more glam look. I sobered up the next day and hated myself for that. I think I know which video you are talking about. I had to remove it from my suggestions because it triggered flashbacks of that shameful hour in my past. I have painted my vintage kitchen and antique coffee tables, but just the bases. I refinished the tops and used hemp oil to make them glow.
I agree on the antique furniture that people paint, so painful to watch them do it..... I have a glass coffee table and is going to put a wooden board/frame herringbone on it.
Omg I totally agree w the wood thing. Like if you restore it great.. if ur gonna throw some paint on it carelessly. I can’t.. I go to the thrift store if I’m gonna experiment on a new technique or try some DIY. I’m listening to ur videos going mhm and making all these noises n my bf is like wth are u listening to. Sooo good. Love the quality of ur substance.
I found my people! Agree, stop painting antiques. Another problem I find is eBay people not packaging antiques when they ship. Respect items that have been around 80 or more years. They are our history, these surviving items made with care by real craftsman and artists.
Vintage sewing machine people usually restore the cabinets and there is a definite persuasion toward not painting them or the treadle irons. I also saw on a restoration video that a restorer always gives the original wood a clear coat before painting it if the owner wants it painted. This makes it far easier to restore should someone want to strip the paint off in the future.
Absolutely agree! My hubs collects specific antique sewing machines and we have them placed throughout the house (pros and cons of that for another day.) He’s an expert on the history of the sewing machine. It hurts his heart so much to see them altered or converted into lamps, sink stands, and so many other destructive uses of the historic ones.
Great video. You made me feel better about some of my "classic" design choices that were trendy but were overdone and are now falling out of favor, ie subway tiles. I've always loved them and probably always will. If I could, I'd live in the subway. (Sadly in NYC, I wouldn't be alone.) About glass: I have a (frosted) glass parsons dining table. I preferred wood but chose glass because of the easy maintenance. Granted, I don't have dogs or kids, but glass doesn't stain. I can spill to my heart's content and not have to worry about rings and blotches. I think I dusted the underside once just because. But the top is as easy to clean as washing a glass, because it is glass. I think the frosting helps a lot. It also has a blue-green tint and I'm all about greens and blues. To your other point, I just paired it with black framed Louis xvi chairs with cane backs and love the mix.
And this is why I love watching your videos. I went from yeah you tell em about how crazy it is to ruin those gorgeous antiques to giggly about glass top tables. One thing to ponder is that trends come and go so quickly. If you love a beautiful piece of furniture and it goes out of style just place it in a not so noticeable area of your house, take care of it and wait for it to come back in style. Like you said it doesn’t take a whole room of the same style furniture to make your home. A few nicely placed items can go a long way. Love your videos and your messages!
I agree about painting antique furniture! Like, I agree so hard. My heart cries whenever somebody destroys beautiful old furniture like that. They are pieces of material history, we should be preserving them and not destroying them! Then again, I'm a literal historian so maybe I'm just biased like that.
I agree . I hate when people take a vintage or antique piece and paint it!! The real wood is something to be cherished . I stay away from the “ painting / modernization “ of the classics . I have a beautiful antique Sheraton . It’s over years old and it’s exquisite. Garrett spot on. Thank you.
AGREED about glass top tables! Found a beautiful iron dinette set; loved it immediately. It's perfect for my space. I always get compliments on it. But.....glass top table is no fun to clean. After all the products/tricks, the very best way to clean then is micro fiber cloth with hot water. Wash with one side, another dry cloth dry on fiber side. Really helps. With that said, nope, never again.
THIS is why I watch every one of your videos! Sound advice, guidance, direction and encouragement with the "whys". Thank you for being true to your profession and us, your fans and followers.

Painting Antiques destroys the patina, character, craftsmanship..The natural state reflects value and longevity. 🤔 Who does that..The tree remembers, the axe forgets.
You had me at don't paint good quality antique furniture! My husband & I spend a lot of time and effort restoring a solid oak library table that someone had painted 3 time! It is now enjoying space in our house in it's original glory.
i agree on the painted furniture as much as i love it. I foresee a lot of paint stripping coming up. i was going to paint an old headboard and foot board that were filthy black. After starting to clean it, the most amazing figuring came out. Turns out its an endangered brazilian rosewood .
Thank you! I hate that trend of painting antique furniture too. So much furniture with beautiful natural wood tones is being destroyed. There's a place for painted furniture, but why not paint new unfinished pieces instead?
I love your advice! I’ve always felt bad when I’ve seen people painted over anything wooden in the room, even there really great stuff! And your point that a home doesn’t have to be just one style…that it can combine many because that adds interest. 👍🏼❤️
I agree with all your points. I hate to see antique wood furniture in decent condition painted over. I inherited my parent's traditional style mahogany furniture. It's from the 1950s so not really antique but beautiful and very well made. Not really my style but I would never dream of painting it. The wood is gorgeous. The kitchen from the 50s has flat front wooden cabinets and wooden cabinet frames. Not sure what kind of wood but the grain is beautiful. Just a little too much wood for me in a small kitchen with only one window. So I've decided to paint the cabinet frames white and leave the cabinet doors and drawers wood to showcase the grain. As for glass top tables, no. Just no. I had one in an apartment I lived in and I had to dust it several times a day. 10 minutes after I dusted it you could see dust on it again. Finally I figured out I could stop fighting it and just get a new coffee table. Such a relief. Your videos are always both informative and entertaining. Love them.
I inherited pieces from my grandparents and my mom, they span from the 50’s-70’s. They are great American made pieces. I could never paint them, they were cherished by my family members so I cherish them too, someday they’ll get handed down to my kids. It makes me sad to see furniture not appreciated for what it is or not appreciating the craftsmanship that goes into them. I want to rescue all the inexpensive finds on marketplace just to keep it out of the hands of the flippers! The amount of depressing painted MCM on marketplace is astounding and they are selling them for peanuts because they don’t know the value of what they just painted. I saw a Broyhill Premier Emphasis hutch on marketplace the other day, painted black for $75. The owners had bought it that way, the label had been removed along with the original hardware, they didn’t know if it was an MCM piece. I’m hoping it’s still available when I can afford it so I can strip it and refinish it. It was just sad to see it forgotten on someone’s porch, a diamond in the rough that someone would love to have in their home.
Completely with you regarding the painting of CLASSY wood. However I love my glass topped dining table. It’s so practical and easy to clean. My Pomeranian cross is too tiny to smear the underside of the glass. Can completely see your POV with a coffee table, even with coasters!
We are building a home and I have been struggling with combining styles. I now feel more confident mixing my Traditional Decor with a more modern home😊
These are just a few of the examples of why you're my favorite interior design youtuber. I love antiques, the quality is amazing compared to most pieces that are sold today. I'm constantly cringing when I see painted antique furniture for sale on marketplace. And no, no to stenciling. I could never bring myself to paint an antique frame let alone a piece of furniture. I had a glass top dining table years ago. It was impossible to keep clean. It was in front of a window and no matter how many times I would wipe it down, the sun would shine and I would see dust particles or finger prints. Too much work for me too. By the way, your dogs are so cute. I have a full coat shih tzu and will find his little nose print on my full length mirror.

Aw man, haha I have a spot for porcelain dolls and also a wall space dedicated to clown art by different artists. Think Eleanor Shellstrop's house on The Good Place but the art is antique or abstract and smaller. But I prefer French clowns and not "American" clowns, or Pennywise. I know that those things are the same if someone's afraid of clowns. I do try to remember if someone wants to come over, I'll warn them or give them a quick quiz on their fears and then warn them. I don't like actually scaring people or making people horribly uncomfortable. But most of my friends are weirdos like me.

Thank you for cementing my decision to not paint my china cabinet. I was considering painting it when I redid my kitchen. Instead I'm going to see if I can refinish it. It has some minor damage. I worked for an elderly couple and their wanna-be posh daughter would go around 'chopping' all the cushions I had just straightened (in between taking photos of her cocktails). Drove me wild :)
I am a staging student so I was wondering what's the point of chopping pillows. It makes no sense to me. Goggle says it reflects light. 🤔🤔🤔
@@Chahlie I would have gone behind her and undone the chop!! I wonder what she would have done......
Your unpopular opinion about glass top tables is very popular with emergency room doctors. Children run into and fall on glass top tables all too often. Lots of work for plastic surgeons.
Excellent point!
I agree so much with the opinion 4:34! Antique furniture is so beautiful by itself and all that paint takes away their uniqueness
I still love granite. I know it is unpopular but I love it. This was a fun video. Thanks Mr LeChic!
I so agree about painting antiques!! Where’s the appreciation for real wood, unique pieces. You are spot on Garrett! Glass top tables…I agree!
"yes i agree w/you do not Paint over Historical furniture"!!!!
i soooo agree with you about painting nice antique furtinure.
Soooo agree on not painting antiques. How silly. And sad. 🥲
I totally agree with not painting over beautiful wood furniture.
I love what you have to say, so true to what you are saying! You are my favorite designer out here! And I agree with some of the other comments down below, sick of these weird looking vases and those ones with the faces some are creepy looking.
Thanks so much for the compliment! Our goal is to produce quality content on a consistent basis. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! 😀😀😀
I like matching furniture but there are no matched sets in my house.
That’s the funniest part of “farmhouse” decor. It represents no actual farmhouse ever.
Agreed! One style throughout can often be uninteresting. 😀😀😀
Thanks so much! Also thank you your thought provoking comment. 😀😀😀
“Thirsty lil ends” took me out🤣😂🤣😂🤣💀
Yes!!! Totally agree with not painting antique furniture!!!
OMG! I actually thought there was something wrong with me because when I see people painting over this beautiful antique furniture I want to cry. And as I’m watching I’m crying out WHY!!!? Thank you 😊 love your videos. Keep up the good work
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching, and supporting the channel by subscribing. :)
Amen to saving and restoring antiques WITHOUT painting them. Thank you for that.
Your content is the best Garrett. I think you're the only one that actually saves us money and saves us from ourselves! Thanks for clearing all the noise and giving direct clarification. Don't ever change kitten 💗
Thanks much for your support and for watching and subscribing!😁😁😁
You've won my heart with this video. Excellent points.
Yay! Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family!😀😀😀
Thank you sooooooo much for saying, "Don't paint antique furniture!" I have seen so many lovely pieces completely ruined with chalk paint. Ugh!
100% agree re painted wood antiques.
😀😀😀
I agree about the sales. Too many people tell you something is "out" and they immediately try to sell you a product.
Nothing.
My pleasure. Thanks so much for subscribing and supporting our channel!
OH MY GOD! Yes about painting antiques! I get so annoyed when I see people who paint Mid-Century furniture in a shabby chic or farmhouse style. Makes me FURIOUS!
💯😎😎😎
I love a beach feel with colors and textures, but my friends try to buy me gifts that are Knick knack beachy items that cause clutter.
What a breath of fresh design air you are. I completely agree with what you’ve said. Every truly elegant home I’ve ever seen employs a mix of design eras and styles to make a curated, interesting and delightful space.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you are a subscriber and enjoying our videos!😀😀😀
Others have said it and I agree! It physically pains me to watch tik tok designers destroy an antique by distressing it and painting it or worse, breaking it down and turning it into something else. Natural wood is SO beautiful! Like that vintage dresser didn’t deserve what you’ve done to it.
Glad someone said it with the antiques.
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We appreciate your support. 😀😀😀
One thing I always hate to see painted is brick. Especially brick siding. Why take an extremely durable and attractive material, that won't need any maintenance at all for decades, and add paint, which will deteriorate when exposed to the elements and will need to be repainted every few years?
A stately brick house was painted white. It took stately and elegant to WHY?
Thanks so much for sharing your interesting comment!
Garrett, I agree 100% about not painting beautiful furniture. This video has been one of the best, thank you!
I agree on the antique furniture that people paint, so painful to watch them do it..... I have a glass coffee table and is going to put a wooden board/frame herringbone on it.
Point one: agreed. My home is a mix of MCM and ... other stuff. Sort of MCM through a kaleidoscope.
I’m glad you are enjoying our videos. Much more to come!😀😀😀
I found my people! Agree, stop painting antiques. Another problem I find is eBay people not packaging antiques when they ship. Respect items that have been around 80 or more years. They are our history, these surviving items made with care by real craftsman and artists.
I agree with everything you have said - especially painting antique wood furniture. Please. Don't.
(Sadly in NYC, I wouldn't be alone.)
About glass: I have a (frosted) glass parsons dining table.
Thanks Saundra! Great comment and we appreciate having you as a subscriber!
😊😊😊
I agree about painting antique furniture! Like, I agree so hard. My heart cries whenever somebody destroys beautiful old furniture like that. They are pieces of material history, we should be preserving them and not destroying them! Then again, I'm a literal historian so maybe I'm just biased like that.
I just bought a vintage cane wood head board. Watching this change my mind from painting it white. Thank you,I’ll work it in my cottage decor bedroom.
I agree . I hate when people take a vintage or antique piece and paint it!! The real wood is something to be cherished . I stay away from the “ painting / modernization “ of the classics . I have a beautiful antique Sheraton . It’s over years old and it’s exquisite. Garrett spot on. Thank you.
👍👍👍
Totally agree about cheapening timeless antiques with all the chalk painting and faux scuffed up look with a shitton of wax
Not very curated! 😀😀😀
I totally agree!
Yes yes yes to the mixing styles. It’s also gives that cozy factor we all need and love 😭👏🏻🤍
Thank you. Wood furniture is natural and beautiful.

100% agree with you on painting antiques, just don't.
Thanks for watching and subscribing to our channel! We appreciate it. Happy Holidays.
I agree a with a lot of these. i like my mainly victorian parlor but keep your paint away from my antiques.
Painting Antiques destroys the patina, character, craftsmanship..The natural state reflects value and longevity. 🤔 Who does that..The tree remembers, the axe forgets.
When you describe your styles, pro and cons, I'm so in agreement and you add depth to my understanding. Thank you.
You had me at don't paint good quality antique furniture! My husband & I spend a lot of time and effort restoring a solid oak library table that someone had painted 3 time! It is now enjoying space in our house in it's original glory.
Thanks Barb! I’m so glad to have you as a subscriber. The table sounds beautiful.
😀😀😀
i agree on the painted furniture as much as i love it. I foresee a lot of paint stripping coming up. i was going to paint an old headboard and foot board that were filthy black. After starting to clean it, the most amazing figuring came out. Turns out its an endangered brazilian rosewood .
Perfect example. You have to know what you don’t know and not just suggest someone painting things because they think it’s on trend.
😀😀😀
My $40 thrift store find was appraised at around $3000
In a year or so I predict the furniture flipping channels will die out and the furniture stripping channels will take their place.
Thank you! I hate that trend of painting antique furniture too. So much furniture with beautiful natural wood tones is being destroyed. There's a place for painted furniture, but why not paint new unfinished pieces instead?
Agreed Robin! Thanks for your support
. 😀😀😀
Painting mahogany should be a felony. I bought an antique 15$ washstand with 4 layers of paint on it. After much work, gorgeous walnut was revealed.
I see many people have agreed but I feel so strongly about this that I have to say it too. I absolutely cannot stand when people paint old solid wood!
😀😀😀 Thanks for your comment and thank you for watching and subscribing!💯
I love your advice! I’ve always felt bad when I’ve seen people painted over anything wooden in the room, even there really great stuff! And your point that a home doesn’t have to be just one style…that it can combine many because that adds interest. 👍🏼❤️
Thank you...painting beautiful wood is a sin!
Love them.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you are enjoying our video. 😀😀😀

I’m so glad you offered Annabelle a makeover lol speaking of “dolls” ummm nope!! They’re rather creepy in any decor setting.
My home is always reinventing itself. I love that cuz it’s never boring but fun and stylish and like me constantly changing. 😊
Samesies 🤍 I’m allllways changing. And omg I jumped when Annabelle popped up! Garrett’s trying to give us all heart attacks 🤣
Aw man, haha
I have a spot for porcelain dolls and also a wall space dedicated to clown art by different artists.
@@absolutelynot7993 weird is fun. I love that at other people’s homes lol. Good for you embracing your style 💎

Painting over a beautiful antique would is like painting over a Picasso because it doesn't match your sofa.
Honestly, I feel like you and I could be friends. We both are sincere in our missions and have excellent taste, albeit entirely different and my house is beautiful so I don't need any help, but I am learning so much from watching you work. You are giving such good sound advice, I really admire that.
I am so glad to hear you say this. You are absolutely right. So many are wasting money on slapped together foreign furniture not the well made pieces.
Agreed!😀😀😀
I’m sitting here emphatically saying out loud THANK YOU in regards to painting these beautiful old antiques! I see so many people doing this and reselling them for more than they originally cost. 🤦♀️ No thanks, you just ruined the value of the piece! Why would I pay you more than it’s worth?

Thank you for cementing my decision to not paint my china cabinet. I was considering painting it when I redid my kitchen. Instead I'm going to see if I can refinish it. It has some minor damage. If I can refinish it then maybe I'll deepen the stain a bit. I also love wallpaper but unfortunately my husband doesn't.
Thank you for discussing painting furniture and the god awful chalk paint. I never got this whole rave going on with chalk paint. It always looks tacky to me.
