Just wonderful! I’m interested in the settings on your mixer to pick up the brushes so well!! I’m a new subscriber and will be watching your other videos. Great job
Thank you Frank! It starts with microphone choice. As you can see I have two mics on my snare. The Shure SM57 picks up the mids and the other mic is the Oktava Mk-12. This mic is beautiful for brushes as it picks the brighter frequencies like the sweeps. I also have a large diaphragm condenser as a room mic which brightens everything up a little. On my mixer, I push the highs a little on the Mk-12 mic. I hope that helps.
As a jazz drummer, there are few things more impressive than a beautifully tasteful brush player such as yourself. Best channel for brush work on TH-cam, hands down. Side note: Any brush recommendations? (over-asked question I'm sure). Currently I have the white handle Vic Firth jazz brushes, and been thinking about getting Heritages.
Thank you so much for your kind words! The white handle VF brushes as I'm sure you're experiencing are quite stiff. I like rubber handle brushes with medium gauge wires. I am a Promark artist so I am inclined to recommend them. However, they are currently redesigning their brush range, due to be released very soon. If you can wait, it will be worth it! If not then the VF Heritage are fine. Just make sure you keep them in the canister when not in use. The wires on those brushes tend to bend quite easily. I hope that helps!
Finally, a contemporary drummer that I like on brushes! Long live to musical choices! Bravo!❤
Thank you so much ☺️
@@LuvskiDrums You're welcome! Gonna buy your book...
