With Instagram a lot of the socializing is based around a picture somebody posted..usually painting them in a position where life is amazing. Old chat rooms people would log in literally just to talk to and meet strangers, play games..etc. The early days of world of warcraft was like a chat room to me
Not anymore. Catfishing and predatory intentions have become way too prevalent. I'm not saying it wasn't around back then because of course it was, but there's definitely more of it now than in 2001. We can never go back, sadly.
@@TigersandBearsOhMy There was predatory behavior back then, too. That's the excuse they used to shut it down, though people are still being predated on today. Bruh, chat rooms made my entire life change. I grew up outside of dc in a bad area and my family would never let me interact with neighbors. So 99.1 WHFS had this chat room which pretty much led me to having a best friend of 20 years, meeting my first gf, going my first concerts, moving to Baltimore, meeting my wife and having two kids. Back in 2001 I was homeschooled online and while in class, I would be constantly chatting up strangers on AIM. It was such an amazing time to be a teenager, and I miss the early days of the internet so much!!
I remember when TH-camrs were sponsored by discord and all my friends thought “oh, this is a cheap version of AIM or Skype”. Little did they know that we would all be using it a year later.
Man, i just realized this is the first vid you put up on this channel in a year. After watching this, it sent me to the video about “your story”. Thanks for your willingness to talk about that side of dark thought. Your ice drifting vid was sick, and i enjoy all your car vids, but definitely prefer different perspectives of real life.
Even though I wasn't around for the AIM/MSN/Yahoo chatrooms days, I wish we could go back to the days of having conversations with real people on the internet, instead of now when 95% of the accounts you see are bots.
This definitely brought up a lot of old memories. I remember joining Neopets because a high school crush of mine was on it, and I think that was a way we communicated for a bit.
