Was just in market for hammer drill. Deciding between 996, 998, and 999 - ended up going with 996 because it is the cheaper tool but have heard great things. Glad to see it perform fairly well in this video. Thanks
I will say from what I've saw DeWalt split sells for the 998 and 999 between home Depot and Lowes. That way they aren't in direct competition even though they are almost identical in power and price.
Just watched this one. I burned up an old brushed Dewalt “cheap combo pack” drill. I think it’s $79 now. I kind of wanted it to go to buy a good tool honestly, and was successful using a 3 inch auger made for flower bulbs. Honestly it did an amazing job for what it was. Happy to have killed the old one, I was researching new half inch hammer drills. On Amazon in Jun of 2022, the 996 was on sale, bare tool only. I have tons of flex volt batts. 996 was $164, 999 was $155. After watching this video, I was amazed at what was possible, both are amazing. I went with the 999, and as a 50 year old home user, pretty sure this will be the last drill purchase of my lifetime. Thanks for the excellent video man…..good job.
I have been using the 996 since the flexvolt line came out and offered the flexvolt battery with the hammer drill and impact in a kit. I have never had a problem with that or any 20v xr tool and flexvolt battery 4 years and still running strong.
I had a flex volt 6 amp hour battery fail after one year. I wrote DeWalt they sent me a new one with no hastle. I have a large DeWalt platform and no issue's other then that.
I've had several of the 996 drills for many years now and love them. I work mine very hard drilling through many thick treated poles. What I've learned from any of my dewalt tools is that the brushless tools really don't like getting too hot. Yea I know that no tool really can't handle getting too hot but the brushed motors recover better. The brushless motors start shorting out if they get too hot. Trust me on this one because I've tossed dozens of tools in the trash because of this. My solution is to rotate hot tools with cold ones before its too late. Now don't get me wrong these tools are a beast especially the 996 drill. My worst dewalt tool is the 887 screw gun. I burnt up 13 of these tools just installing decking. I miss the older models I gave away thinking I had just bought a faster and stronger screw gun. The 996 drills for the most part do very well . I have destroyed 3 so far but every time was in the summer when it's tougher to keep the tools cooled down when working them very hard. A good rule to follow when drilling into wood is if you have it in high gear and it only slows down a little you will be fine but if it bogs done enough to take notice to then drop a gear or your just going to burn up your tool. A weak battery will burn up your tools also; especially the drills. Like when in this video the drill slowed down drilling the big hole while the 5 ah battery had 2 bars. My bet is that it was close to only 1 bar. This is where Dewalt really needs at least 4 bars or even better a percent number. No drill will do well in thick wood if the battery is below 40 percent. Note that when drilling thick wood you will get the battery hot and it will get a little hotter just after your done drilling eventually shutting the battery down until it cools.
I just bought the dcd996 and can't wait to use it. My 10 year old dcd950 is still a work horse that's still being used all the time. I could watch your videos all day, thanks again.
I noticed at 10:35 you were drilling with the 996 out on the end of the post well away from the vice and it was binding, but you can see the wood move a little. When you used the 999 you drilled both holes directly over the solid support if the vice. You can push hard and have less movement in the timber doing it that way. Ps when I use these drills depending on where I'm drilling and size of bit, I let the handle press against part of my body so it won't torque out of my hand, or snap a wrist.
That drill is just fine that rattle you here is the gearbox selector and the reason it's not working is because you blew out a fuse, it can't be replaced but it can be bypassed with some solder I have a dcd996 that had the same issue and is now working again
I just added the 999 to my short list. That's also why I like using the flex volt batteries whenever possible. Despite what some other channels may claim, it has never shortened the life of any of my tools and I can see a clear power gain from it.
I've see multiple test videos with the power detect and the flexvolt advantage drills. The flexvolt battery was used in both and a 6ah 21700 cell battery was used in both, also these test were timed. The results were that the flexvolt battery gave no more power to either drill like the claim says but the 21700 cell did make a huge difference in both. Think about this, that if the 42 percent more power claim is true then the flexvolt drill should've either kept up with the power detect with the 21700 cell or beat it
I appreciate you making this video and it was good to see you using them consistently but it was hard to follow along what pair was being tested and what your conclusion of the best drill/battery combo was.
@@richey761 If I’m just an occasional driller of larger holes when building Pergolas would a high torque drill in 1st heat suffice? Something like the Makita XPH07 which I own already. I’m a pickup framer and I myself, have only seen the electricians with the hole hawgs.
excellent video as always. It's very confusing going from 999 to 998 to 996 but you did a good job keeping everything squared away. As someone who has shot a number of handguns and rifles until they broke I can say every tool has its breaking point. the 996 is defiantly worth buying if you can find a sale on it.
I want your job destroying guns by shooting them to death. I really would hate to destroy them, but there is so much to learn from the experience. I love shooting.
I cooked my brand new Dewalt 996B where it started to bleed grease (unknowingly during the job) and although it powered through some very cured 5 inch cement with a 1/2 inch masonry bit like a champ, the 996B was more the well done and burned out. I would not quit and the 996B drained a new fully charged 20 volt battery to dead. Prior to the Dewalt 996B, I had purchased a Bosh battery powered hammer drill that kept shutting down during the same cement job. The Bosch could not power through the same job because it would not commit toolacide like the Dewalt 996B did. So the advice of the video to use a bigger tool when needed is sound advice.
Then it seems to me that DeWalt upgraded their controller cards to stop the drill before frying the electronics. These upgraded cards are in the DCD998 (Lowes, power detect) and DCD999 (Home Depot, Flexvolt). I don't know if that is true or not but that is how I interpreted this video. Otherwise, there seems to be not much difference between the 3 models.
I appreciate your concern with safety. So far I have broken my hand with a m18 fuel drilling through steel, and my knee while using my ridgid drilling through the ice.
I've had two dcd996 crap out the same way. Its something in the electronics that goes as I've replaced the electronic assembly and its good to go again. It was my workers using them when they went but they were either using 5.0 or 6.0xr batteries not the flexvolt.
Its a motor and switch assy and if you go to places like e-replacement parts they're usually borderline the cost of a new drill but I was able to find it new on ebay and if I remember right they were still around $60.
No…I DON’T expect for a drill to die because you “pushed” it. There should be appropriate thermal protection built into both the battery packs and the tool, to prevent exactly this from happening. These tools are meant to be “pushed”, every day, that’s what they’re for.
Not without a bunch of inappropriate abuse like getting water or lots of hard dust (metal or heavy masonry) into the motor. Even that sometimes wouldn’t kill stuff. I was running a 7 1/4 direct drive circ-saw from Dewalt, and some water dripped into the motor housing, it started sparking/smoking, then just shut off. Wouldn’t run for about an hr, while it dried out, once dry it just started without a problem.
Watch the 996 repair video, the solder melts off the main fuse by the trigger and the fuse floats off the circuit board,I had to resolder mine yesterday after I got stuck on a job with a blunt hole saw .
I have and love tools from all of the Big 3. However I do run into the most quirks with Dewalt. I’m not saying it’s often or every tool. They still make plenty of great robust tools, some of the best in some categories, just not all, or every iteration of even the best tools.
Huge design flaw with these era tools from dewalt is there is two tiny fuses that feed the control circuitry they fail alot dead tool they are potted in resin which is thankfully soft (dig it out) ive literally fixed 3 or 4 now by resoldering the fuses to the board they get soo hot they desolder themselves
@tensazero Flexvolt batteries make a big difference on a 20v tool if you're using it in tough conditions. Runtime is great extended and it has peak power for much longer.
Great Video 👍 This is why you have read the Fine Print , DeWalt only ever said the PD dcs998 with the 8.0ah battery had 29% more power compared to the 996 with the 5.0ah battery , they never said how much more power the 996 would gain using the 8.0ah battery ? And the FA dcs999 says it has 42% more power when IT uses the 6.0 FlexVolt battery compared to when IT uses the 5.0ah battery and they never even mention the dcs996 at all. So is DeWalt using some Well Placed Words and Numbers to get us to buy their New drills , when there really isn't that big of a difference between them and the dcd996 when using the right batteries ?? WoW , I think I have more questions now. I do th think there is an upgrade in the New drills , just maybe Not as much as I first thought or DeWalt led us on to believe .... PLEASE let us know what happened to the dcd996 and if your going to send it to DeWalt to see what they have to say....👍🙏🖖
Dewalt is going thru a serious rebranding issue. Flexvolt atvantage, power detect, atomic. And like every one keeps saying, what's the actual difference besides the tools serial numbers? I'm loosing interest in dewalt when the are clearly just tryin to spark interest and sales thru poor marketing wank. C'mom default let's make some sense.
I bought the 999 with the big flexvolt battery. But I was using an ancient DCD 771 drill which is pretty horrible, that is now my house drill. If I already had the 996 there's no way I would consider upgrading. That money would be much better spent on an entirely different tool that I don't have already in cordless. I got the 999 and the best 60 volt circular saw with the big battery so I'm pretty happy with my kit now. I do have the lowest end sawzall but it's fine for most things. And it was on sale for $99. And if I did need more power I have an old school corded Porter-Cable, which I no longer even keep in my truck.
I actually had the 996 ordered but not yet received when the 998 became available, so I was lucky and just returned the 996 unopened and got the 998. Biggest reason to buy the 998/999 tool set though is to get the bigger battery and fast charger which are quite expensive to buy separately.
At $100 extra for the big battery and charger, it doesn't even make sense to get the bare tool. Unless you're getting some super amazing deal on the bare tool.
Great review as always Brian thanks! You’ve discovered the fatal flaw to a lot of Dewalt drills and impacts: #1: just like the 887, these tools will not shut down before you cook the motor! #2: using the Flexvolt batteries on 20v tools not only helps cook the tool faster, but also degraded the battery faster as well. Something in the way the batteries are wired causes this when you switch between the different voltages.
I tested the 999 along with the Flex turbo and the Gen 4 Milwaukee. I have to say, the 999 is a little bulky and heavy, but it’s a smooth running drill, and it didn’t get warm.
Yeah they are too big! But testing them with a 1-1/2" auger was not super impressive was it? This will do everything you want it to for electrical and to be safe, switch up to a right angle drill when boring over 2-1/2".
@@WorkshopAddict You don't give yourself enough credit. Medical examiners have never brought their patients back to life, just find out what they died from. When you were a kid, did you take apart stuff that broke to see if you could fix it? That's how I was able to cut my lawn for ten years. My father would pick up trash mowers and have me get them running. If I complained, he pointed at an old rotary push mower and said: those are your two options. ”Do or do not. There is no try”
@@stans5270 When I was 8 years old I took apart my father's new 4 wheeler to see how it worked. I love to take things apart! The issue I have is not knowing the words or part identification. So people come on here thinking I am trying to be AEV, and I am not! So the video does poor or people get very mouthy. I try to pick my battles.
Realistic & really relevant review, it's not about fractions of second difference! It's about real life situations. That's what matters. Thumbs up man 👍
Awesome video one of the better ones I've seen tool comparison wise.. my question is how old is the 996 not that that really should matter but if it's been used hard already and you put it to extreme like you did that could be the reasoning for it burning out.. I have the 996 love it never had an issue with it or with any of the DeWalt tools that I own
Having used my 996 without handle, doing a 8" core hole in light concrete block I can tell that handle does not only help you with safety. My drill eventually literally twisted itself around the axis of motion and got completely messed up. I had to buy new clamshells and steel pin. I used a 9ah flexvolt, and can attest that flexvolt batteries gives more power.
You have the best tool tests on TH-cam. I watch every video you publish. Your bit is falling out because you aren't locking the chuck properly. Ratchet it tight and turn it one click backwards.
May I please ask why you would turn the chuck back one click? Is the hold more resistant to shocks and vibrations that way or is there another reason for it? Not that I have ever had a bit fall out, but I haven't really used big drill bits either.
Hey! It is very interesting to know what exactly broke in 996. Can you disassemble and inspect for obvious mechanical failures? Well, or give it to a service center?
Question. Is the 999 is the latest and strongest in the 20v line available? I have the 996 and I feel lime I have to clean my drill time after time every time I drill through 16 inch beam. Thanks in advance.
I just bought the 996p2. You drilled some big ass holes with those drills. Anytime I have to drill something that big I'll admit I get the corded hammer drill out. The 996 will work for me because I won't be using it to drill 3 1/2 in holes! Lol
You know what they say, let the tool do the work, it’s common sense if you push any tool hard enough it’s gonna die, watching this is like watching my son using my tools and forever having to remind him let the tool do the work, saying that it’s not often I loan him my tools as he’s so heavy handed.
Man, I remember back when you bought a Dewalt you where in for a party man, a little smokin' a little drinkin'... now a days I have to watch a vidjeo just to see what store I have to travel to, to buy a goodn'..
That have started making DIY tools which make them more money. Look at the price of the bare tools for 996 Vs some of the DIY tools, and you'll see you only pay about £30 more for almost double the drill.
Its not bottomed out. The Milwaukee chuck has the end screwed up pretty bad from it slipping and spitting it out. I am just putting it in as far as I can, without coming close to bottoming it out, so there is a place to grip that is not all FUBAR.
Great video, it's always good to know what the limits are from every tool and where they excel, keep up you guys with the awesome videos. Btw, i don't know what you are going to do with that dc996 but if you're going to junk it lol, send it to i can try to fix it lol, God bless you my brothers and take care, be well
Mine crapped out too, lasted for maybe a year, what a disappointment. Just crapped out of nowhere. That switch cant be swapped with the 995 switch either, it has no torque bc the torque setting thingy has different output resistance
The issue with the bits falling out is because these tools use a locking chuck and your not locking them 😂 wrench the chuck tight as you normally do then turn the chuck slightly counter clockwise until you feel a click this feature is to stop chucks loosening with a snag or the brake
not a thing dude. not sure where this myth got started. it's simply not the way those chucks work. it's not a feature, you're just loosening the chuck.
Great video! Are you guys thinking of doing a 20v power detect reciprocating saw comparison with the 20v flexvolt advantage reciprocating saw? I loved your circular saw review and went with the advantage
@@WorkshopAddict okay makes sense. I’ll just go with the advantage then. You are really informative about details, like the battery connections. Thank you for the videos!
My 996 just tossed a chunk of metal at me out the side, and now just clicks. Purchased in late 2018, so prob still under warranty IF I can track down receipt. F-Ed if I can’t find, as it’s manufactured in late 2017. Just want it replaced, but Black and Decker wants to waste 2-3 weeks for repair, as per initial call. In comparison, I can just buy and return a 999 every 90 days, because their no-hassle returns are superior to their warranty. Did I mention. The authorized shop charges almost $20 just to diagnose, and that’s standard practice?
first 996 loved it , , after 1 yr 1st one died and then 2 more died less then a yr , I think something with the electronics , got on ebay , not authorized dealer they say , 1st one was but after 1 yr no warranty , going to try the power detect 998 , with 5 amp and see if it does die within a yr , I'm tough on them but, like 1 1/2" hole's max with paddle bit and I don't let the tool get hot , Nutts I tell You hahaha , ( PLUMBER ) thought I would share . Love your Video's
Hello, the video is very good, I am from Argentina and these tools do not arrive here, I recently bought the 998 dcd and I am making it work with a flexvolt 60V-2A, 20V-6A. I would like to know if this can damage the tool? Another question, is there a considerable difference between the dcd998 and the dcd999 to justify buying it from the dcd 999? thanks
Is the dcd998 and dcd999 not made in the USA with global materials? It’s so hard to find any information. It’s just a straight question lol so far I’ll stick with a 996 better than nothing.
The same happened to my 996. Completely dead. No LED even. Does anybody know what the issue might be. I've taken it apart and nothing seems to be burnt or out out of the ordinary. A followup on the issue would be deeply appreciated because I think there are quite a few people having the same issue. Cheers!
same. 996 went dead no power. It didn't have a made in the USA sticker tho, did your have the sticker? I also got a DCF887 impact driver in the kit. It has a made in the USA sticker and keeps working.
I love my dcd999 it's very powerful I only use the flexvolt 6ah battery with it. I'm saving up for the dcf860 kit an dcd1007 kit with the new 8ah xr powerpack
Question....I recently purchased a 999 and the ratcheting chuck gets won't loosen properly anytime the it is tightened with the ratcheting feature (clicks). If I stop right before the clicks, the chuck will loosen just fine. If not, the chuck won't loosen it just clicks. So to loosen it I use the drills power to reverse it off and it grinds until it is fully open and then it works perfectly again. Can anyone help with this...is the chuck shot? I can't find a good answer to this anywhere....
Oh and i burnt my drill up doing something similar in low using a 1 1/4 step bit. Burnt it up and getting no response from anything of the electrical parts. So be careful they do have their limits, especially the gearbox.
Thanks for doing this video, very interesting... I remember seeing a video that VCG did a little while ago where they also caused a drill to stall and smoke while using a Flexvolt. Probably adds power, but maybe to much power. Another channel says the 998 & 999 have larger UWO ratings.
I am going to assume that the electronics and motor in the new drills can take the amps much better than the 996, making them safer to use with the larger batteries under sever load and giving the new drills more power in the UWO.
Hey turns out there's other guys doing same thing like you but they've concluded that flexvolt batteries burned out xrs i guess some thing happened to me..thoughts?
not sure what model but i got an older 1/2" 20 volt max dewalt lower on the power by alot but i've gotten it so hot so many times and i mean so hot i could swear it was gonna blow up doing jobs that was far too big for it still works but i think its close to the end of its life. its loose inside
Many people dont know DeWalt chucks turn them back one click to lock the chuck in place. It really makes a difference ive been drilled 9/16 holes through 8 inch wood roughly 120 holes a day for two months and only had it come out maybe 4 times total.
The 996 is a beast and easy to work on make sure you service them and lube and clean the contacts and they will last a long time if you break the shell they sell them for 20 bucks easy swap out
@@jimcatanzaro7808 Thanks! I suppose HDepot carries lube? Side note, I tried the G3 or G3.5 Milwaukee combo and I liked the smaller size but I managed to trigger the Impact trigger glitch on my first day...I'll stick with Dewalt for the drills and impact, and I got Milwaukee for the saws. :D

Due to the fact that the 998 will not come to Europe while we will get the 999 the only question that remains to be answered is this: does the 999 get the same increase in power if you use an 8A battery compared to a flexvolt of similar amperage ?
Not near as methodical as I would have liked to have seen for a comparison test, but good enough. And man, most people aren't using a auxiliary handle on a battery drill. I've used drills extensively for over 20 years. My DWD215G will definitely make you use a aux handle in tough conditions, but it's a 15amp drill...
No. The FV is 6Ah in 20-volt config and the XR is 8Ah in the 20 volt config. The FV has 15 cells in the pack and the XR has 10. No matter how you slice it, the XR will last longer.
I switched over to a Milwaukee platform from DeWalt but I still have my 996 and it is still a great work horse ,996 Rocks even though I still have the even more powerful generation 3 Milwaukee drill
On my "999" the chuck makes clicking noises while tightening, even if there is no bit . It also makes clicking noises when I loosen, I've never had a chuck that did that. Is it like that for anyone else out there.
I wouldn't say the 999 is doing what it said it would. Maybe see if you can burn in out with the over the limit bit that burnt the 996. Use flex bat. I believe the limit form dewalt is near 2.5 bit.
Its all in the Electronics and the way it transfers power to the motor..are the motors the same i wonder? If so they may of just upgraded the spec by computer update?Great Video as always💯👍🙂
@@WorkshopAddict are you saying the 996 is a bad drill or a great drill? Newbie question? Just purchased a commercial building and ordered the 996 and the dcd 787 (i think) xr drill and driver set for work around the building? Good setup?
So what's the point of the FlexVolt Advantage if the 996 can also use a FlexVolt battery? To me it seems like they're just putting something out there just to say they have released new tools.
Well, The FA drill has been able to take the abuse with the larger battery for a long time without becoming an expensive paper weight. So there is a difference in electronics.

Think about this, that if the 42 percent more power claim is true then the flexvolt drill should've either kept up with the power detect with the 21700 cell or beat it
@@weldonpinder7295 do you have the link, from that video????
I appreciate you making this video and it was good to see you using them consistently but it was hard to follow along what pair was being tested and what your conclusion of the best drill/battery combo was.
Quick tip once you tighten the chuck give it a backup twist and it will make I click noise that means it’s locked and won’t fall off .
Great review. I would never use such large bits in a regular drill but as you say you are giving the hardest work out possible 👍from England
I’m new to drilling what type of drill would you use?
@@thomasrogers7614 a Milwaukee holehawg is what I use
@@richey761 If I’m just an occasional driller of larger holes when building Pergolas would a high torque drill in 1st heat suffice? Something like the Makita XPH07 which I own already. I’m a pickup framer and I myself, have only seen the electricians with the hole hawgs.
@@thomasrogers7614 if you take it steady and make sure your drill doesn't get too hot
This is a high end high torque drill. Unless that's all you drill is holes I think $325 for a hole drill is crazy.
excellent video as always.
Do I have to buy it defiantly though? Or can I just buy it compliantly?
A SDS is tool for thick concrete. Andrea with hammer action is not the tool for that job,
Then it seems to me that DeWalt upgraded their controller cards to stop the drill before frying the electronics. These upgraded cards are in the DCD998 (Lowes, power detect) and DCD999 (Home Depot, Flexvolt). I don't know if that is true or not but that is how I interpreted this video. Otherwise, there seems to be not much difference between the 3 models.
Man, this video made me a loyal subscriber! Thank you very much. Sorry your tool broke, but it was in the name of science!
Great to know. Thanks!
Where did you find the electronic parts?
Its a motor and switch assy and if you go to places like e-replacement parts they're usually borderline the cost of a new drill but I was able to find it new on ebay and if I remember right they were still around $60.
@@skidoosteve4669 thanks for the info even though that's disheartening
No…I DON’T expect for a drill to die because you “pushed” it. There should be appropriate thermal protection built into both the battery packs and the tool, to prevent exactly this from happening. These tools are meant to be “pushed”, every day, that’s what they’re for.
Instablaster...
Agreed. A modern electronic tool shouldn't be able to blow itself up.
Now this is a proper comparison test. So in conclusion, the FlexA is a more powerful setup. However, 95% of applications won't notice a difference.
Bingo!
I want to buy the best drill just because it’s the best and most powerful it’s because I want it LOL what is the best one today? Thanks great vid
@tensazero Flexvolt batteries make a big difference on a 20v tool if you're using it in tough conditions. Runtime is great extended and it has peak power for much longer.
This is y i have the 996
I thought my 998 was a power house of a homeowner drill until hammer drilling through cinder block.Ok if only a few small holes 1/8”.
Dcd999 in HD
At $100 extra for the big battery and charger, it doesn't even make sense to get the bare tool. Unless you're getting some super amazing deal on the bare tool.
You did a good job. And I benefited a lot from it. Thank you
Great review as always Brian thanks!
I dont think the flex in a 20v helps cooks the tool. Heat and high humidity do that. No overheat protection is probably what killed the 996.
I tested the 999 along with the Flex turbo and the Gen 4 Milwaukee. I have to say, the 999 is a little bulky and heavy, but it’s a smooth running drill, and it didn’t get warm.
Nice video very good information I think those bits too big which one will you recommend for electrical work and size of battery life to know
Yeah they are too big! But testing them with a 1-1/2" auger was not super impressive was it? This will do everything you want it to for electrical and to be safe, switch up to a right angle drill when boring over 2-1/2".
Will you perform an autopsy on the 996?
I do not know as I am not the right person to do it.
@@WorkshopAddict You don't give yourself enough credit.

I used a 9ah flexvolt, and can attest that flexvolt batteries gives more power.
nice video man!! i really liked the SEAHORSE COMMENT!!!

Your bit is falling out because you aren't locking the chuck properly. Ratchet it tight and turn it one click backwards.
I am pretty sneaky in my one click backwards. It looks different with my hurt finger. Lol
l guess you are the person who has another channel.
May I please ask why you would turn the chuck back one click? Is the hold more resistant to shocks and vibrations that way or is there another reason for it? Not that I have ever had a bit fall out, but I haven't really used big drill bits either.
@@rickt151 it'll lock the bit in place. If your drill is equipped with that type of chuck
Lol

dewalt is going the way of Bosch. atomic, xr, advantage, power detect, too many tools for the same battery system
I am tipping Power Detect willl get dropped ,pretty pointless imo.

That have started making DIY tools which make them more money.
Look at the price of the bare tools for 996 Vs some of the DIY tools, and you'll see you only pay about £30 more for almost double the drill.
Are you supposed to bottom out the bore bit in the chuck? I think that's why you can't clamp down properly.
Not sure what we are doing with it at this time.

I've had that chuck lose grip all the time. Not sure what the issue is. Never had that issue on the chuck before
I wonder why you never lock the chunk after tighten it ?
I think you should have disassembled the DCD996 drill after its failure to see exactly what had happened.

Oh and i burnt my drill up doing something similar in low using a 1 1/4 step bit. Burnt it up and getting no response from anything of the electrical parts. So be careful they do have their limits, especially the gearbox.

My 996 had same issue the switch burnt
Thanks for doing this video, very interesting... I remember seeing a video that VCG did a little while ago where they also caused a drill to stall and smoke while using a Flexvolt. Probably adds power, but maybe to much power. Another channel says the 998 & 999 have larger UWO ratings.
I am going to assume that the electronics and motor in the new drills can take the amps much better than the 996, making them safer to use with the larger batteries under sever load and giving the new drills more power in the UWO.

Due to the fact that the 998 will not come to Europe while we will get the 999 the only question that remains to be answered is this: does the 999 get the same increase in power if you use an 8A battery compared to a flexvolt of similar amperage ?
All 3 drills are great, no wrong option imo
Not near as methodical as I would have liked to have seen for a comparison test, but good enough. And man, most people aren't using a auxiliary handle on a battery drill. Does the flex volt 6ah stronger than xr 8ah battery?
No. The FV is 6Ah in 20-volt config and the XR is 8Ah in the 20 volt config. The FV has 15 cells in the pack and the XR has 10. No matter how you slice it, the XR will last longer.

On my "999" the chuck makes clicking noises while tightening, even if there is no bit . It also makes clicking noises when I loosen, I've never had a chuck that did that. Is it like that for anyone else out there.
Normal, it is a "locking" chuck. To tighten it just tighten like normal and you hear a few clicks, then back it off one step and it will be locked.
