I wouldve died of a heart attack. Holy shit. Also, thank you for asking him legitimate questions about storytelling & filmaking. Instead of, you know, how it was to work with Harry Styles.
JackHoward Nolan should be teaching a filmmaking class somewhere. I realize he is incredibly busy but he has skill that needs to be passed on to others. The man is INCREDIBLE!!!
ok but kudos to you for asking such amazing questions, homeboy chris was probably super happy not to be answering "what was your favourite scene to shoot" and could now actually answer a proper question to someone who was actually really interested
I love that the questions you asked him were about his film making style and not about Dunkirk specifically. I by no means actually understand the mechanics of cinematography but this was still so interesting to me. Even though no one went into specifics about the plot I still feel like I learned more about it which makes me even more excited to see it. I hope your best director predictions come true because I'm always blown away by him.
So satisfied with this interview... It's almost like it's the first time I've seen Nolan actually talk about the process while being interested/passionate about what he's saying and the first time I see more of his thought, and I'm a huge fan of him. Thank you for causing that.
So refreshing to see someone who is given the amazing opportunity to interview an artist and actually asks interesting and well researched/thought out questions! You did a great job interviewing Nolan and it was really cool to watch you then elaborate on his answers with examples from his movies :))
I remember discussing Nolan and his films with you at some length ages ago. A true cinematic genius and fascinating man. I am incredibly envious that you met him. Very much looking forward to seeing Dunkirk. :)
These style of videos are so good! I absolutely loved the subtle links of the different perspectives in Dunkirk, and watching if a second time in the cinema I found myself even more nervous and spotting more and more links, knowing what was coming next just made it more tense! Nolan is so clever with his effects of time
Hello Jack! You probably won't read this but I wanted to tell you that I love watching your videos. I could hear people that know about film, talk about it for hours and hours. I also love the passion you have for it, and think that that's one of the reasons I enjoy listening to your opinions so much. So, yeah, thank you for your videos!
That interview has just made me so mind-blown. I'm just in awe of Nolan because my love for films about time shines through in his work. It must have been the chance of a lifetime to interview him. Thanks Jack
This man is just brilliant. It would be such an honour to meet him and this was seriously such a great interview and I'm really happy that you got to meet and talk to, as you said, your hero. That must have been surreal :D
I think I'm just tired but i nearly cried at the end of this. I'm so glad you got a chance to sit down and talk about something you're so passionate about with someone that has affected your life and inspired you this much! Always great seeing anyone be this passionate about something Jack!!! Have a great day, thanks for the video as always! :)
I just had to say I absolutely adore how Jack switches between the interview and him talking to the camera in his videos. It actually makes it even more interesting, and it isn't even jarring at all because he switches at just the right times
It's so lovely to se someone talking about things they love and are passionate about and watching them find mentors who they can look up to cause they share that passion. I've been thinking lately how there's this weird legitimacy thing with art, I feel it all the time, where it feels lie you have to be a perfect creator or an already wildly successful professional to start making things or find a mentor. But it's not like that. You can find legitimacy as a young creator by just showing up, finding things you love and studying (or in your case being able to talk to!) your heroes who do those things better than you do. I don't know. I just think thas a great part of the world we live in, thanks for reminding me of that, I needed it today.
I don't know how you kept that composed during the interview - I would have melted as soon as Christopher Nolan opened his mouth! You asked really insightful questions, that prompted answers which actually enhanced my opinion and appreciation of his films - great work. Thanks for this video. BTW I, along with many people in the comments, would love a review of Baby Driver!
What is fascinating is that when you asked your questions and gave you your opinion on how directed, he never disagreed with you. He completely agreed with you and further explained what you had told him, that is really awesome!
Interesting how you asked Nolan about his use of time and his response was that cinema has a specific way of manipulating time- I just did my dissertation on the specific use of time distortion in cinema and a concept called the chronotope :D He seems like a cool guy
Just want to say that, you and Hazel made me appreciate filmmakers a whole lot more. The passion that you've got for filmmaking is _slightly_ contagious!
I'm really excited for this film, for many many different reasons. but this interview has to be one of my fav I've seen and I've watched them all i promise you. but i feel like this is so great its just like musicians they never get asked about music yet here you are asking a film making about film making and i fucking loved it you can read ho much your taking in all the advice but hear ho much he really wants to get across his process. Im yet to watch the film due to work shifts but I'm very very excited and its got such amazing reviews. I'm so happy and proud that you got to interview him! x
Thank you so much for posting this. As a film student Christopher Nolan is one of my biggest inspirations in a creative plotline sense but I've always felt like his movies are so big and have such extravagant productions attached to them that emulating him in any sense is just not at all possible on a budget of $0.00. However, I appreciate how Jack got him to essentially break down his techniques into easier to comprehend points. I will definitely be referencing this interview in the future, thank you Jack!
I love this because you can see Christopher Nolan begin to lighten up a little when he realises you know what you're talking about and can understand the concepts he probably wishes more people would notice.
I love your all of your videos about movies a lot but this one is insaaaane!! You asked such interesting questions and I was hanging on Nolan's every word. The man's a genius and I'm beyond jealous of/excited for you that you got to do this!
Thank you so much for taking possibly the best modern day directors time to ask insightful question into the way he sees film and not some bullshit like "What's your perfect Sunday"(Hot Fuzz reference) like I've seen some other interviewers do.
Jack to have you ask proper questions about his process, though he seems serious you could hear his passion and enjoyment at being asked questions that he cares about, proper stuff. Though he's not laughing and cracking jokes like other funny actor interviews this is SUCH a excellent interview thank you!
I have twice written 3rd year uni essays discussing his films, one on Memento, regarding his use of time, and one on Inception (and also Lynch's Mulholland Drive) about the idea of dreams in cinema, got myself a 1st on that one! This man and his films are pure genius. Loved this
If there's one thing I love and admire, its passion. And you two have it in bucket loads. It fascinates me so much that you can speak about films so intelligently
I love that idea about being in the maze with the characters as opposed to seeing the entire maze at once. I think Following is a great example of that.
Excellent video man. I love the look of awe and admiration in your eyes when Nolan speaks. I have always loved his films and if he doesn't win Best Director at the Oscars this year, I will write a strongly worded letter to each voting member of the Academy.
This was such a great and insightful interview! I've been looking forward to this movie for about a year now. I cannot wait to watch Dunkirk in an iMax cinema tomorrow, and with all those little notes about time and sequences im sure my experiences is going to incredible!
Watched dunkirk earlier and gosh, it was so great to see it in Imax and I caught how the light was changing and therefore that meant the time was changing bc we were following a different character. Such a cinematic feat. The way the music adds to the suspense of the whole film was great too.
You forgot The Prestige which has some of the most acrobatic timeline jumps and twists of all :P Lovely video man, I could listen Christopher Nolan and his brother talk about filmmaking all day, every day. Took my dad to see Dunkirk the other night and it floored us both. As always, so masterfully crafted down to the every detail. Incredible!
Yes! You don't need a backstory to emphasize with a character. Great interview and great video - love the commenting throughout. This actually made me want to watch the movie, as I've slowly become a sucker for technical details.
Yo when u listen to this guy ur just blown away. He doesn't even need an interviewer u could literally just sit there and listen to him describe his method of filmmaking for hours and when ur done ur head would either explode or u would immediately enroll in film school. This man is incredible
This was fantastic! I learned so many beneficial tips which is exactly what an interview with a filmmaker should do! Thank you so much for this Jack, you're brilliant!
I really loved this video. As someone who loves film and studied film, I always find i interesting hearing you talk about films, but the questions you asked him were really intelligent, which aloud a very deep discussion in my opinion about film making.
On a first name basis with Christopher Nolan now. ;) This is so amazing. I love that you got the chance to ask him these things and get that knowledge from him and thank you for sharing it with us!
I met him, we talked about the RAF at the actual Dunkirk, it was cool, he signed my book. As a media, history and acting student it was a dream come true. Nice guy, super cool.
Jack my dude, this content is what I live for. Super informative and really useful stuff to other aspiring film makers. Thanks for sharing your passion and excitement for Chris' work.
I just watched Dunkirk a few hours ago and you're right; it was absolutely incredible. I had to come back to this video and say thanks for emphasizing IMAX.
Really love this. Excellent questions, especially compared to some of the repetitive garbage Nolan was asked during these interviews. Good for you dude
Great video! Definitely helps me appreciate the film more. I was honestly dissapointed by the film (of course, me expectations were through the roof), but after hearing your interview with the man himself, I believe I am quite ready to give the film another go.
wow man, I'm blown away by how knowledgeable C. Nolan is about his profession and art. as a simple movie enjoyer, some of this goes above my head but I think that as a professional this must be so interesting!! and I do think you possess this ability as well Jack, you can sort of tell from the questions you ask and what you got from this film.
I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who has fallen so in love with his films. I remember seeing Interstellar with my dad when it came out, and that film changed my life. Meeting Christopher Nolan would be absolutely insane. This video expresses so much of what I love about his films.
im definitely going to see this omg. I only just watched interstellar and omg inception ahhhh the other day and im basically hooked to his storytelling

Dang, Jack had some really good questions for Nolan. I would've been like, "Hi. How do you movie?"
what a damn mood
I love that man with a passion. When he speaks I feel like I'm gaining IQ.
I assume you mean me. Yes. Me smart.
JackHoward me me smart boy
Ana Maria 😂
Pixelcubed Love this comment
Pixelcubed same here
I wouldve died of a heart attack. Holy shit. Also, thank you for asking him legitimate questions about storytelling & filmaking. Instead of, you know, how it was to work with Harry Styles.
4:07 Jack falling in love with Nolan all over again 😂
bloody love this
Sammy Paul bloody love you
JackHoward You soppy git.
#Jammy5eva
JackHoward Nolan should be teaching a filmmaking class somewhere. I realize he is incredibly busy but he has skill that needs to be passed on to others. The man is INCREDIBLE!!!
I want Christopher Nolan to calmly talk me to sleep
I first thought that you said you wanted Christopher Nolan to calmly talk to sheep and I was very confused
Millie Bennett i now also want this
Maybe you're the one calmly talking Christopher Nolan to sleep (seeing as you're an ASMR channel)
Lucia Violet hahaha nice one I like that😂x
ROFL....:D
You can tell Nolan is really enjoying Jack's questions. He's really going in depth with each one of his answers.
Gotta find me someone who looks at me, like Jack looks at Christopher Nolan.
Mette Nørgaard nah I think you can show respect and admiration without making the man who's agreed to sit opposite you feel uncomfortable
Start making some great movies
his voice is oddly very calming. that sounds creepy. but he should do audiobooks.
ok but kudos to you for asking such amazing questions, homeboy chris was probably super happy not to be answering "what was your favourite scene to shoot" and could now actually answer a proper question to someone who was actually really interested
Christopher Nolan's voice is so calming.

Thank you!
Jonathan Nolan deserves a lot of credit too. He is to writing what Christopher is to directing.
He is co-writer, which means he helps chirstopher nolan to write the stories. He is just a co-writer for chirst sake.
So refreshing to see someone who is given the amazing opportunity to interview an artist and actually asks interesting and well researched/thought out questions! I love these types of video where you add your opinion with the director. I look forward to moe like this
it definitely feels more engaging than a regular interview
Hello Jack! You probably won't read this but I wanted to tell you that I love watching your videos. I could hear people that know about film, talk about it for hours and hours. I also love the passion you have for it, and think that that's one of the reasons I enjoy listening to your opinions so much. So, yeah, thank you for your videos!
Thank you for watching x
Imagine Mr. Nolan reading a bedtime story to his kid...
That interview has just made me so mind-blown. I'm just in awe of Nolan because my love for films about time shines through in his work. It must have been the chance of a lifetime to interview him. Thanks Jack
You did yourself proud with that interview. It was very intelligent. I learnt a lot from it and I'm not even the filmmaker here.
When Christopher Nolan says "nice meeting you", and you feel those feels Jack must've felt
This man is just brilliant. It would be such an honour to meet him and this was seriously such a great interview and I'm really happy that you got to meet and talk to, as you said, your hero. That must have been surreal :D

I just started film school and none of the men take me or my ideas seriously bc I'm a girl. hopefully someday I get to be as good as Mr. Nolan
Ana Maria sounds like a bunch of shit. 😂
Ana Maria
Do not be intimidated and trust your ideas in the end sums up of what you think of yourself, go girl
Don´t go to film school.
Nolan didnt
rooting for you, girl! change the narrative! 💪
Don't go to film school it is a waste of time. Read novels and watch films to learn how to become a filmmaker
I just had to say I absolutely adore how Jack switches between the interview and him talking to the camera in his videos. It actually makes it even more interesting, and it isn't even jarring at all because he switches at just the right times

Christopher Nolan always has a single hair that falls down the middle of his face. It's hilarious.
Adds to the aesthetic.
It's smart.
What is fascinating is that when you asked your questions and gave you your opinion on how directed, he never disagreed with you. He completely agreed with you and further explained what you had told him, that is really awesome!

I really like your interviews Jack. The questions are always so much more interesting compared to some of the other interviews on TH-cam/the internet.
I'm so excited to see Dunkirk - even more so after watching you two chat about it. Such passion for film making, I love it.
I don't usually like war films but this is one I will see due to Christopher Nolan's filmmaking craft and unique vision.
Thank you so much for posting this. I love your all of your videos about movies a lot but this one is insaaaane!! You asked such interesting questions and I was hanging on Nolan's every word. The man's a genius and I'm beyond jealous of/excited for you that you got to do this!
Out of all interviews I've seen with him, this one has THE BEST questions, therefore the answers he gives are absurdly valuable. Thank you.
Is this color corrected? Mate, your production quality is off the hook!
thank you for sharing this experience with us, I've gone into filmmaking because of him so it's always a pleasure to get to hear him talk!
Thank you so much for taking possibly the best modern day directors time to ask insightful question into the way he sees film and not some bullshit like "What's your perfect Sunday"(Hot Fuzz reference) like I've seen some other interviewers do.

I could listen to Christopher Nolan all day. The love of cinema just radiates off him. Also, on an aural level, he's got the nicest voice ever 😄
I love that idea about being in the maze with the characters as opposed to seeing the entire maze at once. I think Following is a great example of that.
The way the timeline worked was so cool, I went to see Dunkirk today, loved it.
Excellent video man. I love the look of awe and admiration in your eyes when Nolan speaks. I have always loved his films and if he doesn't win Best Director at the Oscars this year, I will write a strongly worded letter to each voting member of the Academy.
You are putting up so many videos lately and I'm so here for it
I love and admire Chris Nolan's work! And I love how patient and calming he seems to talk to you! Great job with the video! :)
I could listen to Christopher Nolan talk all day.

Great interview and great video - love the commenting throughout. This actually made me want to watch the movie, as I've slowly become a sucker for technical details.
God, Bertie looks older, doesn't he?
Goomboid LOL
Your questions were so interesting and creative, nolan is my favorite director of all time, thank you Jack for this video.
Yo when u listen to this guy ur just blown away. He doesn't even need an interviewer u could literally just sit there and listen to him describe his method of filmmaking for hours and when ur done ur head would either explode or u would immediately enroll in film school. This man is incredible
I loved this video man, thanks. I also really love Nolan. He's very smart and knows what he's doing. Very excited for Tenet (his next upcoming film!)
Thanks for asking such interesting Q's and not interrupting! I cringe watching some of the Dunkirk press interviews
This was fantastic! I learned so many beneficial tips which is exactly what an interview with a filmmaker should do! Thank you so much for this Jack, you're brilliant!
Thank you for doing an interview which actually informs us about the movie that is being promoted and movies in general❤
This is incredible. Soooo happy for you, Jack
I really loved this video. As someone who loves film and studied film, I always find i interesting hearing you talk about films, but the questions you asked him were really intelligent, which aloud a very deep discussion in my opinion about film making.
I need Chris Nolan to narrate a book!
On a first name basis with Christopher Nolan now. ;) This is so amazing. I love that you got the chance to ask him these things and get that knowledge from him and thank you for sharing it with us!
You did a very good interview. I learned a lot too.
Keep the good work and wish you every success in your own production.
the hearts in jacks eyes are so real.
I met him, we talked about the RAF at the actual Dunkirk, it was cool, he signed my book. As a media, history and acting student it was a dream come true. Nice guy, super cool.

Damn, what a great interview, Jack. Questions/answers were insightful and really well presented! Chapeau, young man!
I just watched Dunkirk a few hours ago and you're right; it was absolutely incredible. I had to come back to this video and say thanks for emphasizing IMAX.
I never knew Nolan was British! Neato
Same man same
Really love this. Excellent questions, especially compared to some of the repetitive garbage Nolan was asked during these interviews. Good for you dude
Now the 40th most trending video. Congrat's Jack ☺👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Christopher Nolan is my favourite director
This makes me feel so old. I remember being introduced to Nolan by watching "Memento" in the cinema.
Jack I can see the future and you guys do in fact love each other
I LOVE THIS STYLE OF VIDEO and i'm so happy that you got meet one of your heroes! you deserve it so much!
Great video! Definitely helps me appreciate the film more. I was honestly dissapointed by the film (of course, me expectations were through the roof), but after hearing your interview with the man himself, I believe I am quite ready to give the film another go.
wow man, I'm blown away by how knowledgeable C. Love this so much. Wow - you asked such great questions!
I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who has fallen so in love with his films. I remember seeing Interstellar with my dad when it came out, and that film changed my life. Meeting Christopher Nolan would be absolutely insane. This video expresses so much of what I love about his films.
Also, that question about Time is what I have wanted to ask him for so long.
im definitely going to see this omg. I only just watched interstellar and omg inception ahhhh the other day and im basically hooked to his storytelling
You're a very intelligent, respectful and professional interviewer jack. Glad you got to meet Christopher!
after watching this I seriously cannot wait even more to watch this film!!
I love positive videos like this where you can actually LEARN something from great filmmakers. Im not a fan of RANTS and complaints, but these are fun!! keep these up and coming!!
Love this video, love the interview, and love Nolan. Can't wait to see this movie. I've very loved every single thing he's ever made.
Nolan is super intelligent in the way he makes films that the audience probably don't see the depth of work he has put in but to the trained eye or if you're actually looking for it then you are blown away by it.
That's so cool you got to meet him! I'm sure you will make an awesome film director
It’s not about money, it’s about sending a message: Nolan makes awesome movies
