I'm happy you're keeping the memory of Sterling Holloway alive by continuing his characters. Pooh, Kaa, and the Sterling sounding narrator for Animaniacs.
Sterling Holloway was a fantastic Disney actor. Some of the classic Disney cartoons I watched (aside from Winnie the Pooh, of course) had Sterling narrating an animated short. He also seemed like a friendly gentleman.
Sterling was approached to return as Winnie the Pooh in the 1988 TV series, but at age 82-83 he could not perform Winnie's voice as well as he did before, so Jim Cummings took over.
You have to admit though Sterling Holloway could’ve returned to reprise his role as Winnie the Pooh in early episodes the 1988 TV series and Jim Cummings could’ve filled in for him in most of season 1 and most of season 2 before he took over fulltime after Holloway finished voicing Pooh in the episode Fast Friends and left the show passing the Pooh torch as well as the voice to Jim Cummings for the rest of the series because his voice was getting old. That could’ve been Holloway’s final performance as Pooh before he died in 1992. His last words to Cummings could’ve been I want you to do me a favor and take care of my little friend for me Jim. Cummings could’ve said don’t worry Mr. Holloway I’ll do it.
You know I can only imagine when Sterling wasn't able to voice Pooh again he told Jim to "Take care of my little friend for me." And Jim kept his promise and continues to voice Pooh to this day.
I grew up with both Sterling and you, Jim, as Winnie the Pooh. You both mean a lot to me, and I want to thank you (and Mr. Holloway, if he’s listening 💖) for being much of my childhood.
Sterling also had a series of live-action slapstick comedy shorts at Columbia Pictures in the 1940's, working alongside Three Stooges co-stars Emil Sitka, Vernon Dent and Christine McIntyre.
Hey, Jim! This is Rohan speaking. Your “Pooh voice” sounds so much like Sterling Holloway. I remember hearing your voice for the first time as Lionel from “Dumbo’s Circus” on The Disney Channel, WAY back in the days. You really were the perfect voice for Dr. Robotnik from “SATAM Sonic The Hedgehog” on ABC. Thanks for being a huge part of my childhood!
I remember watching The Twilight Zone one day about a TV that would broadcast the future and Sterling Holloway plays the TV repairman and whats great is the first time you hear his voice, hes not onscreen, and Winnie the Pooh's voice was Holloway's speaking voice, and I said oh my goodness thats Winnie the Pooh's voice. Lol. He did a few voice roles for Disney and did the narration later in his life for the short-lived TV show Roundabout. RIP Sterling Holloway
I specifically asked for that episode one day and my dad started busting out laughing as soon as he heard his voice and said I was a little sneak and such a trouble maker.
Jim Cummings is incredible and is iconic for many original voices of his own but, and no offense to him for this of course, Sterling Holloway will always be my favorite Pooh, Cheshire Cat, and Kaa. Jim does him honor.
I was just talking to a friend of mine about how all of the Winnie the Pooh voice actors have essentially been doing a Sterling Holloway impression… because that was just his regular voice:)

I have an almost identical story but it was 15 years ago and Mr Jim Cummings was the voice at the other table. I let him eat in peace.
