It's funny. The algorithm got me to his stand up shorts, which listening to the podcast I now know increased in quality and quantity thanks to Natalie. I then searched for his stand up and these interviews came up and I am now hooked on both of these ppl. Full circle.

The education system needs to change and start helping kids that clearly need it, if not to just help them with their life overall and later on, but to help everyone around them as well.

Eloquently put... my diagnosis came after my daughter had hers, and it also helped in understanding myself and my relationships with my wife and family...

Thank you. I’m 35, and I didn’t get diagnosed until my son did. I was also diagnosed bipolar. I didn’t cause problems in school, but I broke down on average every 3-4 years. I was “smart,” but basic life things like having friends or a partner alluded me. I mean, I was married but it ended badly. I didn’t need to “push through it,” I’m just really not ever going to be different. That’s been hard to realize. I’m building a more functional life, though. After 2 decades of nose to the grindstone it’s a bit of a relief

I love everything about this. We really need to stop tossing around bipolar to people who don’t meet the DSM criteria.

I was diagnosed by peer-review, as they say (that is, I was tipped off by autistic friends), but I got bullied all through middle school and had some real rough sensory periods over my life. Wild how little the average person knows about it.

2:11, Humorous, but disruptive… class clown… good lord that was me. I used to get so many detentions in middle school.

Whenever people say to me that I don't look or act autistic I usually think "Well I certainly feel it." And I usually say it has taken years for me to be at the place I am at.

I was also diagnosed later in life. It’s like the only thing I was never tested for when I was a kid

It's really irritating for me at 32 because as a kid, ALL the signs were there, but NOBODY picked up on them and just said they were other stuff.

I hope you hear your friend and really ask your dad NOT to continue crossing that boundary of hugging him like that ,when he Clearly states its terrible and he feels horrible when it's happening. I hope for him, you Really heard that and not just laugh it off like "oh...That's my dad, ahut ahut ahut" like no, he doesn't like it, so stop. Idk maybe I'm crazy for this take, or how I felt that part came off, idk maybe it's just me? But if he was MY friend, and I knew he was uncomfortable in that situation, you best believe I'm telling my dad to keep it respectful to his boundaries, don't cross the line and yoke him up like that in this big bear hug when it's clearly uncomfortable for him 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

My cousin and brother are autistic and I think I might be on the Asperger's side. Thanks for this conversation.

I've never seen an autistic person maintain such good eye contact! You're an inspiration!
