I had a '13 Speed3 and loved it. I traded it in at 60k miles for a Mustang GT. I think the Speed was a tighter race car type of vehicle and will cherish the memories of it forever. Both are amazing cars.

I use a wotbox for faster shifts and staying in boost. I don't recommend them for stock motors, only built bottom ends. But of course do your own research and find out what you think. N2MB wotbox
The transmission built into these cars is very lazy, not necessarily bad but you will hear a lot of noises and experience jerks especially between gears 1&2. A lot of people fix this issue with a short shifter, idk what he has in the video but that’s what I’d guess. It’s smoother if you pull the clutch out slowly, also like this guy you can rev match nicely on the downshifts. I doubt it’s the engine mounts tbh.

I’m around $17k between mods and labor on my gen2. Built engine+ clutch and flywheel is costing me 8.7k alone. All my bolt ons were purchase new so between a turbo, full exhaust, intercooler, engine mounts, suspension, brakes, etc. another $10k about. It’s worth every single penny ❤️🏎. If you know how to work on your car you will save a good amount - I just don’t have the time.
Hows the luk clutch and fidanza flywheel holding up? Considering getting that for my built motor, cst4, fbo build. No aux fuel yet, shooting for 350-400. Would I be good with that?
I run approx the same build, luk/fidanza, cst4 17psi peak, no cats, top mount. makes approx. 290-300 whp on a mustang dyno. I have noticed that I make way more torque than the hp figure, and the luk has the tendency to let go completely if I put the power down early, before 4500rpm. roll into boost rather than stabbing it on a highway pull. you might want to get something grabbier than an oem replacement friction disk. also, the fidanza makes SO much noise, if you pull up next to a building, it sounds broken. clacky clack
Pro tip: never shift gears or lay into the throttle mid corner, especially in a car like this with crazy torque steer. Great video otherwise, I love these Mazdaspeeds.
@Noelsterrr the steering also wasn't his strong side 😅 I was sometimes wondering how is he able to feel something like this. Never change possitions of your hands if it's not necessary because you never know where are your wheels pointing

Definitely a super fun daily. STAY ON TOP OF MAINTENANCE. Once you go built motor reliability starts suffering with supporting mods. Also take it from me, don't money shift. It's expensive 🤣 I have to swap heads now

If you're an audiophile like me, absolutely not. If you don't care too much about sound and more are into the functionality, then go for it. I have a 5ch amp and I don't use the amp built into the head unit, it's not great and very underpowered. As far as functionality goes its definitely nice
Tbh I have the bsd and rear motor mount and the vibes aren't as bad as my buddies who have all damon motor mounts. I have the stock mounts on the sides still. It's really not bad. Not sure how bad it would be with motor mounts though

No retune, if you can solder then you are good. I wouldn't use a wotbox on a stock bottom end, but that's just me. My turbo flutters because it doesn't have a antisurge housing, and my tial q bov is placed on the hot side of the piping rather than the cold, so it reacts more slowly when the throttle shuts
I wanted to get a speed 3 but it had 100k miles and I saw the common problems that come with it and I decided to pass on it they were asking 10.5k did I make a good choice by passing on it
I have the hks on my car. It's definitely not super quiet. It has a good tone and is tolerable for daily driving and when you get on it it sounds absolutely amazing. And pretty loud in tunnels and such

They can be. but you need to do maintenance on a LOT of things if you're getting one in the 4-5k range. the common failure points more often than not are neglected, and tend to suddenly break, leaving you stranded. Check for, suspension in good shape, including bushings, HPFP internals if tuned, VVT/Timing replaced and done properly, AC compressor replaced if around 120k, Oil cooler plate that sits on your oil filter assembly, idler and tensioner pulleys for the serpentine belt, suspension bushings, particularly sway bar mount bushings, they are always dust and will give you the infamous rear end clunk, pivot shaft seal on top of your transmission tends to leak, DO A COMPRESSION TEST AND SHOOT FOR NEAR 160 ON ALL CYLINDERS, Cylinder 3 runs leaner than the others due to the intake manifold design, can and will run lean with a shit tune and that cylinder is always the first to go zoom zoom boom. 2nd gen, for overall reliability, is leagues above a gen1. however, it will hold your hand much more aggressively with the driver assists. gen1 has none of that, barely even tries to wrangle the torque steer. I own a gen1, and this is the list of shit I had to do immediately after purchase, costing around 4k for just parts, me doing all the work.
@Jared amen. My gen 2 just had its turbo oil seals go. Getting it right now as we speak. Though I do have a lot bolt ons along woth cat back and a catless downpipe. So that probably didn't help. Ended up going woth a cst4. You're lucky you can do all the work yourself. Minor stuff I'm fine with but I don't have the experience nor time sadly.

Yeah I do. Do it kinda backwards tho. I use heel on brake instead of on gas. I find it easier to blip accurately with my toe.

Worked great for over a year until I had a money shift accident. But definitely a good setup!

Not sure what clunk you're referring to. But endlinks are a common thing on these.
