My best habit is: Don’t clean for 1-2 hours once a week, but clean as you go! If the bathroom sink is dirty, I‘ll clean it while brushing my teeth. If the toilet needs a scrub, I will do it after using the toilet. If the shower needs a little wipe down, I‘ll spray it while brushing my teeth, scrub it down 1 min, rinse it and then take a shower.
One of my favorite TH-camrs made this observation: Horizontal surfaces tend to collect clutter. Minimizing your horizontal surfaces will automatically reduce clutter.
I placed decorative items on the top a a few flat surfaces. No space for anything else or at least I get the message that "this place is taken". Now they stay free of clutter.
I do all of my housework (350 yr old, 14 room house), gardening, dishes, laundry, and mending while listening to podcasts on every topic you can imagine. My days fly by. Our 6 children have been grown and gone for a while now, so podcasts, which I've been listening to since 2007, make it feel like there are still people 'talking' to me all day. Aw that sucks. I’ve grown up in a different environment and when I moved to America the culture was very different. One thing I really didn’t like was how “individualistic” everyone is! I clean my shower tile while taking a shower with a rough sponge and cheap dollar store fruity smelling shampoo. It’s smells good and amazing how it cleans. You can mop with it too. Smells great 😊
I listen to audiobooks or podcasts when I fold laundry, do the dishes, cook a meal etc. Easy to do stuff that need moving around if you get bluetooth earbuds.
#4 and #7 are my favorite that I've been doing for a while. I keep a container with bathroom cleaning stuff tucked near my toilet and I have a small table for things to bring down from up stairs in the hallway out of the way I set my dishes or recycling and bring stuff down on the way. So great!
"A place for everything and everything in its place" came to mind when you mentioned keeping bathroom cleaning supplies in the bathroom and kitchen cleaning supplies in the kitchen!
I use a cover in my microwave, but before that when I’d go to clean my microwave, I’d put a cup of water in there for 3 min and let it sit for another which would unstick all the food where I could just wipe it out with ease
I usually watch my favourite series while ironing. It makes it way more pleasant and the time passes by faster. Another good tip is to try to make the less mess possible.
What a great idea Simone! At the beginning of lockdown, I could not find any liquid hand washing soap, there was only 1 4-pack of Dove bar soap so I thought something is better than nothing. I am now converted to using bar soap over liquid soap for environmental reasons and with bar soap, we get to use all of the soap or as much as is possible but with liquid soap there is usually still a cm or half cm at the bottom which we can't reach with the pump tube. I'm going to put my soap on my nail brushes in each bathroom now.....thank you!
Don‘t switch your bar soap to liquid, the bar is way more environmentally friendly. The ocean is already filled with plastic and microplastic. :( And in all honesty rinsing the soap holder now and then isn‘t a chore at all. Nothing like vaccuuming, washing the dishes or folding clothes I would say.
I bought three foaming soap dispensers (one for each bathroom), a 1.5 litre bottle of Castile soap at the health food store, and filled the dispensers with about 1/4 to 1/3 soap and the rest water. Works great!
I'm going to try refillable. I've been using a soap bar for a good few months (to try to be more environmentally friendly) but the drain is getting so clogged up and gross with the little bits of soap falling in constantly. It's a nightmare to clean
Thank you for all your great cleaning tips! I will be using ones you covered that I never heard of doing before! Looking forward to more of your videos!
I have the most lazy shower doors hack ever: I bought a beautiful shower curtain. I wash it every month in the washing machine with a little washing detergent and a splash of white vinegar to disinfect. 100°F/40°C will already do the trick. I hang it back to dry.

Find a dishwashing soap you like the smell of or has a nice colour. Light a scented candle, play some music or a podcast. If I have dishes pile up, i wash pots and pans first, then platters/bowls/large items. (Rinse the sink out really well afterwards.)This clears larger surface area more quickly and motivated you to keep going. I also wash smaller, like items together. (Eg all dessert spoons, all teaspoons etc I never fill the sink with more than 1 type of cutlery at a time.
Linovi Das So, as long as you don't often run your dishwasher when it's only half full of dirty dishes, or unless you are very miserly with your water use (or have an old, inefficient dishwasher), the automatic dishwasher is likely to be more efficient. That is to say, it's possible to use less water and energy by hand washing your dishes, but it's not easy. Of course, if you do it just right, it might just be a wash.
We had one like that and I can't remember what kind it was. It stopped working after three months. Read reviews that said just that. There are great reviews on you tube in three separate price ranges. Go mid price....we got a Shark....works great!
Not necessarily. As an experiment, I used both bar and liquid soap for a month. Liquid soap is stored in a reusable glass bottle that I purchased 4 years ago (still looks brand new). It has a foaming function which means it dispenses an effective amount of soap each time. The bar soap is definitely a lot messier, and requires weekly cleaning, wasting water, etc.
Christy Lee Doesn't the liquid soap you use to refill the glass dispenser come in a plastic container? Using a small amount of water (compared to the overall household usage) to clean bar soap residue is way more environmentally friendly... Unless you have access to a 'green' shop that you take your glass bottle to refill directly in the store. Wish there were one of those near me.
@@db7084 Oh, sorry for not being clear! I make my own liquid soap and bar soap, so no, they don't come in a plastic container. The ingredients were sourced in bulk years ago. Bar soap always requires more water to wash off than a perfectly adjusted liquid foam. The foaming has already been done for you, so you don't need additional water to foam it up. Honestly, going to a "green" shop may not be that environmentally friendly too if you have to keep travelling there. Or subscribing to all those "green" deliveries. There's an environmental cost to logistics and travel to consider if one wants to be truly environmentally-friendly. I wish more people are aware of this.
