@CinePals, That "hunk of junk" was this universe's Millennium Falcon. I am your mother is the new "I am your father." There were a lot of nods to that conical story, like the Emperor's "do it" line. This one was a lot of fun.
In my head I was thinking this episode was going to have a Wallace & Gromit cameo with Wallace yelling “NO CRACKERS GROMIT, WE FORGOTTEN THE CRACKERS”. But no it was a good episode, really fun and gave me a big fat smile.
Definitely more to Aardman's sense of style than sweepingly epic or poignant like the previous three shorts, but it was definitely a pleasure to watch all the way through.
Also: One of the ships at the starting line of the race (the one with the vertical fin) is a tiny version of the Stinger Mantis from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor!
