The Forever Winter releases 9/24/24 in early access. Epic made it possible for us to make this game, their engine is an absolute beast and it’s letting small teams knock it out of the park visually.
We also want to share that they provided some much needed fire support and that assistance is allowing us to localize in a ton of languages.
If this video does really well the team can’t wait to do another. Thinking a mother courage life cycle short would be killer!
Really appreciate the support of the community, we know it’s out of control long but we really wanted to capture the vibe of our world and we could not have done it without our homies at Black Amber, and my bros Erasmus Brosdau and Soheyl Mohammad.
See you soon scavs.
So glad to finally see this get posted
You made me aware this game even exists. These guys are the goat but you're their goat.
❤️❤️
Thank you for talkin about this game
Thanks for your videos about FW, I wouldn't have been nearly as interested without your in-depth breakdown videos and developer interviews
Thanks for your videos, they actually introduced me to this masterpiece. You've done a great job spreading the word of the forever winter.
0:36 A robot with a gun for a head, holding another gun is the best character design I have ever seen
That head is an aa12. A full automatic 12 gauge...nasty.
Wot a lovely day.
It’s so fucking goofy and 100% my kind of shit.
but the spider bot with spinny shovel head
Borderlands 3 character design if it was good:
4:56 all the helmets have their night vision mounting brackets removed because the goggles are the only thing worth salvaging from the fallen soldiers. In some of the scav designs you can see that they directly graft the brackets onto their skulls.
There isn't really a big hole in the helmet behind that bracket though. I suppose they cut the helmet rather than remove the screws?
that is so metal

A man's flesh is his own; the water belongs to the tribe.
He who controls the spice controls the universe.
I suppose you could imagine this as some sort of apocalyptic butlerian jihad scenario on Arakis
...that implies too much reverence. this is a game where you're meat and will be reconstituted killed and reused over and over and over.
This game is revolutionary in the industry by concept alone. And don't even get me started on the depth of lore and the design language. How entire cultures and societies are built around this staggeringly monumental war apparatus, the vast majority of which are there to wage it. But then there's the little guys, a subculture that does what it must, and only that. As close to the line as possible without going over...over and over again. Picking through the machine's endlessly replenished excursionary rejectamenta, we play as scavs-perhaps the least capable, but who are possibly out of all of those who are left, the most human.
I wonder how much modding potential this game might have.. With the systems in place, the AI, etc. imagine what you could do adding new machines, changing the entire world aesthetic, tweaking the AI, etc.
Watching the mech digest that poor bastard was terrifying especially when the previous guy was dropped out the chute, something tells me that wasn’t an instant death
HUMANITY IS DEAD
BLOOD IS FUEL
HELL IS FULL
Its honnetly one of the most intruiging and horrifying things Ive seen so far. They've made allusions to harvesting organs before, but this seems totally different. What would a machine need for raw biomass like that?
I think the devs said that rogue mech uses biofuel to power itself. It's basically eating people to keep itself alive.
If you've seen the concept art then you would know that it's definitely not a painless death as it sucks you dry over days or weeks depending on if you survive your (probably botched) organ transplants after your original ones fail after being sucked dry. Then it digests you after your transplants fail and you become a husk and then discarded.
There was some vid that shows the designs of the mech (Toothy, I think the name was) and one particular diagram shows how the human inside the bag is digested step by step. Though, I was unclear whether it was digested or converted, actually, since there was references to artificial organs and whatnot.
Fun Dog...if you were going for "unbelievably dark and soul-crushing" for your vibe...Congratulations! You knocked it out of the park.
You mean knocked it out of the wasteland
Warhammer 40,000 isn't _allowed_ to be this grimdark anymore.
Ok now that's going a bit far 😅@@agentoranj5858
At least there are still cat bobbleheads. The perfect spark to show why humans haven’t just given up.
@@agentoranj5858 Y'know, even at its "worst" in 40k, there's still ultimately people thriving in the Imperium. With what this trailer is showing us and from what I understand of the lore, I don't think *anyone* is having a good time in there. There's not even a "guy at the top" to reap the benefits, it's all just machines sending people to die.
Call me edgy if you like, but god that's so fucking good as a vibe for a post apocalyptic setting.
The most gripping thing about this otherworldly stylization is how strangely realistic it feels

Reminds me a lot of Animatrix Second Renaissance.
The stylizied designs for the humans really sell it
Yes bro, love death and robots is amazing
4:15 was absolutely gut wrenching to watch as that bag dumped its waste material so it could be used again, replacing its last victim with the old man. That machine didnt register him as a human being or even as an object to be treated with any form of dignity. All it saw was living flesh to fuel its mayhem, and the old man was powerless to stop it from turning him into another digested and discarded corpse.
I think that mech was one of the piloted one's. You know, a human pilot inside one.
In forever winter there are no morals.
Strong sides fight each other.
People in the middle of it are just fuel.
The dead is most of the battle field.
@@fatandhandsome4423 thats even more wild

I wonder how long this game has been in development. Because it seems like it's got a lot of influence from the Ukraine War and seems to have a very relevant political message about modern warfare. It feels like a modern day Casa Blanca.

Jesus, my nightmares could never be so creative.
They've actually shown some concept art of that mech on other social media, and yes it takes people and digests them as living batteries, using nanotech to replace failing organs until they spit out the bones and look for a fresh body.
There’s actually a robot concept called EATR developed by DARPA that could forage for biomass to power itself… They say it would only use plant matter, yet listed chicken fat as a potential fuel source…
The US military just developed a carnivorous robot that is capable of digesting "living matter" for energy.

something i find truly unique in the visual aspect of this univers and despite what the title might suggest is that this place feels neither hot nor cold, the lighting make it looks like a huge fire took place here but on the other hands some of the scavs are wearing heavy thick clothing wile other are roaming arround only wearing a t-shirt...feels like war has destroyed the very notions of cold and hot, just like the colors of the world who seems to have faded into this exageration of Jean Pierre Jeunet cepia philter wich also reminds me of the movie waltz with bashir and OG call of dury 4 missions set in the middle east.
i love it already.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.... and not everyone gets to be the supersoldier. Or even much of a soldier at all.
Most just become meat for the grinder. Occasionally literally.
I can imagine this being a parody opening where "there is only war" part fades in... and then more bits do so as well, lol.
No emperor to die for... What's even the point ?
Fitting, given that this is directed by Erasmus, who made Lord inheritor prologue with the parading imperial fists.
So happy for STALKER and Warhammer to finally have a child together.
"War shows a mans courage, hunger shows a mans character". thats the kinda vibes here. Love it looking foward to playing it.
"War shows a man's internal organs" is the vibe I get from this game, personally.
The only thing that war shows is humanity'a utter stupidity.
"War pulls humans into depravity and desperation if they are not at the top believing they profit from it."
Is what I'm getting from it.
The courage aspect is only what those gritting through it keep telling themselves as they suffer.
good grief the message here is so on the nose it’s actually insane and it still flew over your head and made you think there ie some honorable thing here
I'm so grateful that developer (and not marketing) led games like this are being made again.
That last scene with the guy getting dropped in the sack was actually a bit gut wrenching. Very, very few things have been able to get a reaction like that from me these days so excellent work!
It wasn't until now that I noticed Toothy dump the remains of the previous occupant of that bag, then put the old man in it.
Worse yet is that bag is going to break his body down, keeping him alive, and more horrifically, conscious through most of the process replacing organ function with synthetic organs until the body is eventually fully broken down and discarded like seen earlier in the trailer. Yeah it's probably one of the worst ways someone could imagine going. Grimdark indeed.

I love how all the previous teasers/cinematics interlink together in this trailer and on top of that we get a little extra footage from each one to see what happens in full.
3:05 - the floor/ground flexes when the guy jumps off and lands on the other side. Have that in-game on similarly weak structures. Guaranteed heart attack moment and adds to the realism.

It speaks volumes of how dangerous scavenging is, for that area to be the 'safe' one.
That the previous trailers/teasers now come together in this one made me speechless. This is an incredible little story that shows how far from grace the world of The Forever Winter has fallen. True grimdark.
This game looks like you put your heart and soul in it. I might sound simple saying that, but im almost 40 years old. I remember the old days of gaming industry, and i think today games lack atmosphere, immersion, and a believable world. Long story short, games have an identity crisis while being overly expensive. And your game screams immersion and atmosphere, and the price is very decent. I will gladly support your project and cross my fingers this becomes one of the best PVE Coop experiences ever, since good PVE Co-op games are very hard to make. Thanks Fun Dog!
I completely agree. I'm a little scared about some of the noise I have heard about it being in a very early alpha state though.
While I am more than happy to buy the game now in what ever state it's in I see how hyped we all are for it. I know that lots of spoiled instant gratification types will flip their shit about anything less than perfection. I want the game to grow and spawn sequels, and I have my concerns that it's just not ready yet.
Whatever the case I'll be buying it on ea release and I'll do my best to help make it a winner.
@@muthulhuv608 I get you. Well, i am from an era where games were choppy, buggy, something like a hypetrain did not exist. But the atmosphere and immersion were top notch. On the other hand, its a multiplayer PVE Co-op experience, and those games are tougher to make. I dont mind choppy animations, or stupid AI behaviour, i can already see YT channels posting videos about how hilarious "gamebreaking and literally unplayable" Forever Winter is. But you know what? I dont care. I am the type of guy, who can enjoy a game even if its steam reviews are mixed. Last title was Gray Zone Warfare. People complaining and meanwhile me, who does not give a shit, since i simply enjoy the game. PVE in Tarkov, sweat drowned people complaining they cant own Timmies on PVP because lots of adult folk moved to PVE, and the complainers get stomped by other sweat soaked PVPers, so they exhale and rant that PVE is rubbish. Meanwhile those that like PVE dont care and just enjoy it. I hope you get my vibe, because my point is that PVE Forever Winter might have a bumpy road, but you cant satisfy everybody.
Jason Willey absolutely nailed this soundtrack and the entire aesthetic is top notch. So excited for this release.

One of the best trailers of this year. I hope they deliver in gameplay.
I don't care how it works, I love that based on depictions of gunhead, he just slaps 1 up there and its good to go, loving the balance between realism vs fun fundamental in the design.
The fact that the music of the trailer sounds like Danger feels like this game was made for me, can't wait to play this!
Characters look like a claymation. Hitting that Phil Tippett vibe.
Yeah remind me of film MAD GOD by Phil tripped. 😁👍
it's fascinating to me how effective having only the people not be hyper realistic is for the art style. Anything 'natural' becomes something out of place in a highly disturbing visual metaphor for the setting.

Just a fair warning to anyone watching. Devs had confirmed in QnA that they will be implementing water death mechanic that will punish players for not logging into the game often enough.
Players will be losing losing a significant part of your progress - base upgrades, access to merchants, personal inventory and money.

I'm extremely excited to see how it will play and this hidden QR code doesn't make the wait any easier. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to make it visible.
The trailer is more than great. Really good work!
I was already fully sold on the game, the concept, the art direction, the team behind it. Everything screamed "my type of game", and yet even still with every tease and reveal they show us, I can't help but fall even more in love with this fucking game.
Landscapes look amazing, it's just what i imagine, would buy just for the tour, exploring, for visuals.
Face at 4:03 is goofy, but still cool, has a style, and that's awesome.
They're a relatively small indie studio, I think realistic faces would have been better but that's probably both beyond their scope and not their intention
I actually think the style is a nice blend of being unique with a good quality. I also feel the style gives more life to expressions.
But let's face it, I'm sure we all would make that face in an ambush with the knowledge that one machine can essentially strip your flesh and organs like you were digested in a matter of seconds.
I actually like the goofyness of the character design.
Nice contrast with the machine world, putting in perspective our frail but familiar nature.
Design over fidelity!
I'm half convinced it's a reference to that meme of the guy in front of a tornado
(2:23) This part gave me severe, Animatrix's Second Renaissance flashbacks. Nothing gives me more chills than seeing machines tearing apart humans like if they were toilet paper.
This is one game where I'm actually excited for its release
This is giving "Lost Planet during the Age of Strife following the uprising of the Men of Iron" from 40k and I'm all for it
Most of all, it's awesome to see such a world and atmosphere get realised and recieve the emphasis it deserves, if the rush of taking in the lore is merely a newcomer's thing in other games, or just a very slight breath of air in between mindless hero action; this game will surely deliver in its promise to put the artist and their art in the forefront.
RIP Gun Head you were the best character design I've ever seen. I cannot wait for this game.
Buying this the moment I hear good reviews
Toothy just standing there with his cape of body bags is beyond menacing
I'm so happy I managed to find a new job in time for this, being able to hopefully not only pay for and enjoy the game but maybe the music and an art book as well. Love what I'm seeing.
Wow, it's just amazing to see something like this finally come to life, I feel like whenever I found some project like this that was bold, innovative and kind of niche, some problem would arise and it would never be completed. This is so well made. There's so much that's just being hinted at, alluded to, or barely showing itself, but it says so much about what's going on. It's so unsettling. I adore it.
It is not often I am rendered speechless, this is one of those times. Five minutes, thirty one seconds of awe.
