Stars and Bars is a terrific, telling, hilarious, and underrated Neil Young cover. My favorite, however, and one of my favorite album covers ever is On The Beach. I think that cover’s framing, color scheme, and attention to detail is outstanding. The artwork is pleasing to the eye yet has an ominous, super chaotic undertone to it which allows the album’s title to be interpreted in a handful of ways. On The Beach is simply one of the greatest and most underrated albums ever. 1974 is quietly one of the most stacked years of all time.
Mr. Studmuffin, I also really enjoy the On the Beach cover. It took me a long time to "get" the music on it, but it's grown on me. I don't know if you have an original LP of that, but the first LP covers had the flower print from the sun umbrella on the inside! I think the Living With War cover is better than you do. The lettering is not done lazily, it's an artistic statement. The stencil letters imitate the lettering that's typically used by the military. So it's a definite part of the album's message.
On The Beach will always be my favorite album cover of his! Yeah, many of the worst ones are truly god awful! LOL. Wow! I really enjoyed your Neil Young parody at the end!! It reminds me of what Jimmy Fallon would go on to do years later!! Great lyrics and the guitar solo sounds just like his playing! It's stuck in my head now! :)
Thank you for another entertaining and creative video. Congratulations to you and your musician friend on the song and thanks again for the effort you put into this channel every day.
My Fork In The Road cover would be a real fork or a pitchfork in the foreground and an acoustic and an electric guitar with bodies touching and necks pointed away from each other on a two-lane rural road that really has a Y (the fork) in Alberta with the mountains in the background on a nice cloudless morning facing west. I don't have this album. I like your ranking of this art. The cover of Chrome Dreams II is the classic hood ornament of Lincoln cars
My favourite is Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is my favourite Neil Young album cover mainly because of the dog! I agree, the cover looks a bit like John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band!
I have so many albums by Neil Jung I've lost count...I'm feeling lazy today, so I don't feel like dragging them all out, but off the top of my head my fav covers are...RE- AC- TO R...L E N O I S E...Greendale...Ragged Glory...On The Beach & Zuma...my least favorite is Living With War, that gets a big yuk! like Jefferson airplane's Bark, terrible! Ever heard of the band, Young Neil & the Vipers? or maybe they are a local band here, anyway funny name... OK Larry, "keep on rockin' in the free world"
RogerSchnack beat me to it! Time Fades Away is also my favourite. It practically looks like a painting. I’ve always like the calming tone of it. Very cool.
Neil Young is my favorite artist of all time…. I like the fact he has so filter, he doesn’t edit. What you see is what you get. To me he’s just the GOAT I actually ranked all 46 of his albums from worst to best. Keep up the good work
At the Bar- good song and lyrics 👍 Sounds like Neil Young. As for the covers, I am not familiar with them but Harvest Moon looks the best and I like the rockin one with him in the pink suit. Cheers
With the "Everybody's Rockin'" album, David Geffen had said he wanted Neil to make a more representative rock 'n' roll album. And at that time, rock 'n' roll was more the tag given to the '50's rockers, like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. So, Neil purposely made an album what he considered "rock 'n' roll". What we call classic rock today, was mainly considered as rock music then. Poor David Geffen. ha!
Hi Larry. Thank you. Just the pick me up I needed after a long work day. I generaly agreed with your ranking with a few exceptions. I think "Ragged Glory" could be a bit higher. My biggest disagreement would be with "re-ac-tor" which I think is an iconic cover and I'd put in the top ten. Simple, powerful and direct. I remember seeing it for the first time before hearing the album and thinking "I bet this album will kick ass" and it does!!! I loved the music video! Totaly nails the sound of Neil in his more "Twangy" phases. Was that you singing? If it was you sounded great! You should contact Neil and ask him if he'd be interested in recording the song as it sounded musicaly and lyricaly so much like him.
Tonight’s the Night cover is just classic, I’ve got it on a t-shirt. it’s also my favorite album of his. The podcast Long May You Young is a funny show about him.
Missed this video yesterday. Yeah, I always liked Trans as well. And what was it, Human Highway, the movie he did with Devo. He just does what he wants, amd it can get weird. Gotta listen to Sleeps With Angels again, it's been a while. His response to Kurt Cobain dying, reminiscent of Tonight's The Night. And The Needle And The Damage Done. Also, one studio album I noticed missing is Time Fades Away. It was out of print for a long time, but it was re-released in one of those boxed sets. Original album series 5-8. You've got the other 3 albums in the box, but it's a nice package. That's what she said. And Time Fades Away is a really good album I think, if you haven't heard it.
Never realised so many of his album covers were so poor! My favourite is On The Beach. The object in the sand is the tail fin of a late 1950's car (a Cadillac I think, but I could be wrong). The hood ornament on that other album looks to be from a Lincoln (again, I might be wrong). Like you were saying, I've always wondered why these big artists and bands sometimes come out with dreadful album covers. Surely they must have a say in what gets produced! Van Morrison is another singer with some great music but quite often bland/boring covers, IMO. Love the Neil Young inspired song. The vocals and the lyrics were indeed great examples of high quality entertainment!
As you say, being a fly on the wall when some of those covers got the thumbs up would have been quite interesting. I wonder if there might have been just a hint of naughty substances involved. Of the ones you didn’t like I thought ‘This Notes for You’ was okay. Only two other ones I actually liked: ‘Re-Ac-Tor’ and ‘Trans’. The car buried in the sand almost made ‘On the Beach’ a liker but not quite. I don’t think ‘Yes’ will be courting his input for their next album cover.

Nice video Larry. I think On the Beach is my favourite cover and I would have the self titled cover higher somewhere in my top 5.
Wow i really liked the song! Making another album anytime soon?!? that would be awesome!
Great list Larry. I agree with your #1. That album also has the amazing Like a Hurricane and Will to Love.
Nice List Larry really enjoyed it 👍✌
What a great song you & Eric collaborated on! Very Neil Young-esque, I loved it!👍☮️
If you hadn’t announced it, I would think that was Neil singing!! Great work again Larry!
Thanks!

Thank you very much!
I really like Landing On Water too. Hippie Dream is great. I agree with your #1 cover choice! Good video Larry, thanks.
I think I like the look of maybe 5-10 of those album covers total lol... Shame more effort wasn't made on the album visuals
This was a cool video idea my favorites are "Land on water", Neil Young debut, "Harvest", "Trans". Have you done a Paul McCartney version of this yet?
At the Bar- good song and lyrics 👍 Sounds like Neil Young. As for the covers, I am not familiar with them but Harvest Moon looks the best and I like the rockin one with him in the pink suit. Cheers

No, as credited at the start of the video it is Eric Myers singing and playing the music, I just wrote the lyrics. Thanks!
Tonight’s the Night cover is just classic, I’ve got it on a t-shirt. it’s also my favorite album of his. The podcast Long May You Young is a funny show about him.
also love the Mirror Ball cover
Love the song!

This would be a great series if you also did the same thing with other artists as well. 😊
Thanks. I have done a handful before. Up next is Paul McCartney.
My favorite is "Time Fades Away".
The silver and gold album cover was taken by neil's daughter amber Jean with her Game Boy camera
Time Fades Away time and time again!

You got it right.
Glad u got a turntable.
Have some good picks for Neil Young
Harvest Moon was my favorite song
I'm really not a fan of any of his album covers Larry but I think probably Harvest,Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and Comes A Time are his best. Bob
Cost cutting.
