The song follows the singer as he climbs the career ladder. He starts out hoping to play in a local club in Boston and ends up in L.A. living in a house overlooking the ocean. But she doesn’t care about the trappings of success; all she cares about is him. A very bittersweet love song. I hope he comes to his senses and goes home to her. 🙂
NOT ME, she sounds extremely selfish and self absorbed! he had career goals and dreams and he's suppose to give up ALL OF THEM just because of her and what live a normal quiet life all for her, because of her? what were her dreams and goal?. he gave and gave and pleaded and pleaded and yet all she had was "no, stay with me"... why COULDN'T she be with him where he needed to be? iv'e always had this same mindset even when i was kid hearing this song for the first time and now all these decades later...
Just a beautiful song about a young man who doesn't realize what a real treasure he has right at home from a woman who truly does love him... Wonderful reaction, as usual, a pleasure to watch. Thank You K & S !!! 👍🤗😍
He was a songwriter who couldn't get anyone to sing his songs so he made an Album, That is what made Elton John start singing, he was getting paid by Dick James studio to write songs. Hes wrote tons of Songs, 'Pieces of Apri" by Three Dog Night. The Group Alabama sang one of his songs, Don Williams, Tanya Tucker rtc. Hes mostly a songwriter.
So happy you finally got around to this lovely song from circa 1974. I knew you two would appreciate it. Have you noticed laid back "chill" vibe alot of 70's music has? I really miss those days where everyone minded their own business but still cared more about each other too.

Clint Eastwood owned a bistro in Carmel on the coast of California called The Hog's Breath, he sometimes stopped in there and talked to patrons. The part about "Some stars that fell from the sky that live up on the hill" is a true statement, many big Hollywood stars live in or around Carmel and the central coast of California, and of course southern California near L.A. This is one of my favorite songs from the 70's, it never gets old.
I’ve loved this song since I was 6 or 7. It would make me cry as a child. Skynyrd’s TUESDAY’S GONE made me cry, too. Beautiful song. I believe he is Kenny Loggins’ 2nd cousin. This song was actually played on Pop and Rock stations. I don’t remember Country stations playing it, but I could be wrong.
For those who love the emotional pull of this song, I would recommend A Long Way From Your Mountain by an overlooked singer named Susan Graham White. It's a beautiful song and she has a full, rich voice that brings to mind both Carpenters, Mary Chapin and Karen.
I see you have reacted to many different artists and styles of music. May I suggest you try Hallelujah or The Sound of Silence by Pentatonix? Pentatonix is an acapella group. All the sounds come from their voices or body. No Instruments, even what you might mistake to be drums is a human beat boxer. They are three time Grammy award winners and their harmonies are second to none. During your reaction, you will need to pause several times and comment to avoid copyright issues (The music label they're with is picky about it). I would look forward to a reaction of them by you and I'm sure you would enjoy their music.
The song is terribly plaintive because listening to it you know their relationship is doomed. He's always going to be a drifter and she never will be. What they are doing is right for them personally but will never be so for the other person. It's just sad because neither can accept that and move on. But it is a beautiful song about longing.
One of my most favorite songs ever.

I like the reference to stars that fell from the sky and live up on the hill... i.e. celebrities.

He also wrote "Pieces of April", covered by Three Dog Night.
