That NZ team was maybe the best I had seen, special group.
It was tough tour as a Lions fan but I get goosebumps every time I rewatch the opening 5 minutes of this Test Match. The Haka, the sheer noise of the Lions fans, the kick off and tempo from Lions in the opening 5 was extraordinary.
We then see one of the magical performances of a number 10 in Dan Carter as he takes the series away from the Lions- fabulous stuff.
Score: Dan Carter 33-18 British and Irish Lions
Never had a gay thought in my life
... till i saw this performance.
I was in NZ as an exchange student in 2005, and watched this match many times until the videotape was worn out.
I am so grateful that I was able to watch the whole match this time. Thank you so much. XXOO from Japan
Nice!!! From 🇿🇦
It's always great to see the AB 'HAKA' being performed and in general I'd back the The Lion's in most matches, ,but having Irish ☘️🇨🇮☘️ Parents and a Aunt who lived in NZ..So on this day it had to be the AB's!
Awesome 👏 glad you enjoyed the Game 👍💯
Carter produced a GOAT performance, Jerry Collins was awesome ,a little emotional when I seen him walking off giving a fist pump to the crowd RIP legend....and mccaw my lord what an absolute machine the guy had an absolute all time game ,this is one of my favourite all blacks performances
Real sport pre - woke
I have watched this many times and the refereeing is still appalling however you look at it. The stamp on the arm should have been red carded instead of giving the penalty the other way.
This is the game ae, they should make the boys watch this before the big games so they come out fired up.
@@cateplink1633 Woodcock was awesome though, what a boss.
All Blacks, the Best Team in the World. Canadian Fan
If this was refereed on 2021 laws, there would have been more red cards than tries 😂
look at speed af the play, they have runned for 80 minutes really, but now i prefer the maul and ruck and scrums, are more clean and less dangerous.
That's right, stomps on the head and punches flying and the ref awards a scrum. It's legendary haha!
I agree, everyone is jumping wild in every ruck... I was thinking 'man it's so much faster than today, no much time spended in scrum and penalties and stuff but it's quite violent rugby and the ref blow 1 foul every 10 fouls.
Lighweight
True sort people today are so weak
RIP Jerry Collins
And Lauaki 😢
Ardie Savea reminds so much of them , with his crazy runs and hard tackles
To think Carter ends up playing for another 15 year's he's literally the goat.

Definitely bro Definitely
What does goat mean

The attitude era in rugby lol McCaw was still a beast workrate Carter the Gunn tana the umaga ,Ali,Mauger, mills,Kelleher, Rodney,so many legends
Why do o you call this the attitude era.. I know it is WWE reference but could you please explain
British Lions don’t play very entertaining rugby!
Kiwi living in Australia. Went over for holiday to visit family and friends at the time of that Lions tour. Second Test unreal. Lions played well for first 10 minutes, but the game goes for 80 minutes! Forwards dominated rest of match giving D Carter the opportunity to play the best game I've seen a 10 play. There has been some great 10s, but I think he's the best. This game showed his complete skill sets. Over shadowed his opposite.
Great game.
talk about vintage line ups... woodcock, mealamu, somerville, jack, williams, collins, mccaw, so'oialo, kelleher, carter, sivivatu, mauger, umaga, gear, and muliaina.
talk about big names
how is ur comment 3 years old and the video 3 days old?
@@connerhobbs2947 This video was unlisted for a long time. They just made it publicly available again.
So why did they do that i wonder...
Carters the goat
RIP Jock, Jerry and Sione
It’s crazy how not only has the game improved with the advancement of the players but this game is making me realize how much better the refs have become.
I agree too.
I'm no authority on Rugby( and there's plenty i miss) but the game seems to be more ' Power, strength and Muscle focused these days? Which I feel the SA personify, but it looks like Ireland seem to want to keep the Ball moving& throw it around! Which for the neutral makes it more of a spectacle and entertaining! Or is that a naive assessment from a casual fan!
@@jerryoshea3116it’s a wanker game now some jerk on a tv screen trying to tell everyone how to tackle when you only have a split second no wonder the fans are slowly leaving today’s games I haven’t watched a game in 4 years it’s just a game of netball now l have gone to NRL
Both of these teams were awsome great game
Awesome to watch.. so many great players on both sides..
watching this in 2023 this is a wild game
In my opinion...this is the game where Dan Carter confirmed his place at ABs no.10
Lion's song - Bad Joke! Woodward the one drop goal wonder!
1:02:03 I've watched this try a million times and never noticed So'oialo's subtle little tackle on that last defender to give Carter some space
Typical New Zealand! 😂
Always enjoy playing awesome reruns such as this. Dan Carter such a defined Rugby Player with the skills he showed during his time on the field for the Crusaders and The All Blacks.
And Woodward rates Wilkinson better than Carter...Wow what a dreamer
If Wilko hadnt of had 14 injuries and a long career like Carter then would have been a totally different story... unfortunately people like yourself only remember Wilkinson at his worst not at his best. That being said tho Wilko was not the same player since 2003...
Wilkinson in his prime
(2001 -2003) would have smoked
Carter same with Spencer.
@@isthatthebestyougot4845 Coulda, woulda shoulda but he didn't. Get over it.
@@guitarrocker9848 lmao yea, if Dan Carter broke both his legs bungy jumping than it would've been a different story too lol. Excuses excuses, deal with reality Wilkinson is nothing compared to Dan Carters statistics and career.
@@guitarrocker9848 ….If Carter had his head bitten off by a shark and then the rest of him fell in to the slurry tank of a pulp and paper mill, resulting in him ironically becoming part of a batch of "Get Well Soon" cards, Wilkinson would’ve definitely been regarded as a better first five. So, it’s clearly just the dashed damned luck of the draw with Carter avoiding those incidents and so governing the way it all turned out. Poor old unlucky Wilko.
Anyone claiming Wilkinson is the greatest flyhalf of all time only needs to look at this game. Totally outplayed. And don’t even mention Barry John.
The greatest goal kicker was Neil jenkins
Went to the game, Had to go into a draw for the tickets, got two as I was a Referee and a player. Sat on the halfway line the side Carter scored that amazing try, Had a Welsh guy next to us, sang the whole time, was just happy to be there. I did get offered 1 thousand "quid" as I was walking up to the gates with my old man, But it was my turn to take my dad to the lions, he took me in 93'
Wellington was a great game. Pity about that clean out. ( wasn't a tackle ) The atmosphere in town after was incredible. Everyone happy.
Great memories, great game, great venue.
An amazing AB’s team Vs a very weak Lions team Thanks for the upload
Tackling back then was ferocious. That was rugby.
the end of Wilkinson's era & beginning of Carter's
Says who 2023 RWC finalist
Beatiful team
Maugers kicking in the first half was a masterclass. McCaw got bossed for about 50 mins, but his stamina in the last 49 was incredible. He got is pie when those big Lions forwards were just broken physically.
You have to love how many players got tickled up on the wrong side of the ruck too. I’m sure if this was played under today’s rules there were at least 5 red cards.
Five or more red cards. Rugby in 2005 was just so different. These lads were raw!!
@@russellbiyason3736 Yeah seriously. There were punches thrown and the ref completely ignored it and just told them to get on with it (and they did!).
@@KallousKiwi I wish players today could do the same you know. Just get on with the game!!!
@@russellbiyason3736 nah man, punching has nothing to do with rugby. You may tackle hard but if you wanna throw punches, start boxing.
I reckon there would be less red cards than you'd expect, because every breakdown would get blown up for some other infringement before most of the nasty stuff could happen. Personally I find being so used to modern rugby makes watching the breakdown kinda jarring in these games. The players got away with so much shit back then.
This is gold
Arguably Carters best game he ever played...
arguably? it is :)
@@hughjazz6300
It's hard to tell because he had so many great games but from what everyone has said I think you're right
Great game
Great game.
As an aside it's easy to forget how good HD (High Definition) TV is until you watch something from a couple of decades ago.
46:00 when sivi slaps the ball on a wales players head after h scored the try. in fits
Damn these #ABs hitting rucks though, helluva exciting!!!!
Watched again, everybody in that All Black Team had their moments and did their job and Black jersey proud. After that match there was only one world best number 10 on the planet. All Blacks would go on and win the 3rd Test at Eden Park, Auckland 38-19 for a clean sweep 3-0. Series
The British Irish Lions would return 12 yrs later and draw the 2017 New Zealand tour 1-all.
It's amazing how much faster the modern game is over even 2005.
Faster but less combative today all sports are pathetic and played by girls
I a huge Lions fan, but sometime you have to take your hat off to a much better team. NZ were awesome in 2005. Lions just don’t get game time and one team
I’m 5 minutes in and I can’t believe how the game has changed in 15 years.
See howcthey pile in on ruks lol totally sealing off the ball
@16:02 silly Superman
Sure dc was unbelievable but man look at Richie’s game! Perfect #7 game
Scrums back then we're fucking wild, I couldn't believe it 🤣
Such an incredible ABs team. Really interesting to see how much more gracious hosts NZ were in 2017. I guess the controversy surrounding that tackle had caused a lot of bitterness - you can hear it in the commentary. You expected it from Mexted, who is as one eyed a Kiwi as they’ve ever let near a microphone. Regardless, I think this ABs team are the best I’ve seen in 30 odd years of watching rugby.
Shut up you came here to ruck our halfbacks. Can't say anything without having a jab at NZ in some way.
aka Carter destroys The Lions
As good as this AB team was it was basically the same team which failed two years later without Umaga. A team which could win handsomely at home scoring hateful of tries, but didn’t have a plan B when it got tight and refs decisions were going against them.
lions were juz useless..thou..overrated as always
@@shanowilliams9851 yeh that Lions team were good. But that’s the great challenge of the Lions melding 4 nations into one team in such a short space of time.
They were robbed by a blatant forward pass by the French. Rugby is a cruel game, but the ABs winning 2 World Cups with a number of these players, is just awesome.
Still the best team in the World by miles, regardless who holds the World Cup
@@bakivaotuua9120 they had dozens of chances to pot a field goal .
There are four nation’s players. What? Seriously
These days the Easterby try at 66 minutes wouldn't be a video check. It would be a penalty try, because both his tacklers go for his head.
How to make All Blacks legends... By the British & Irish Lions 😜😂
16:01
Pivotal moment where Paul O Connell absolutely loses the plot when we (as a lions fan) have the ball 8 meters out at 7-0 up. New Zealand recovered and the rest is history.
Not saying we would have won if not for that btw. Just we had made such a bright start considering how badly the first test had gone. If we could have got a second try at that stage we would have stood in much better stead.
The better team won by an absolute mile in this series
Motr full matches please
Best team best first five in the world
Williams just gets rocked by Williams
What an earth was O'Connell up to at 1:09:35? He just runs in and headbutts So'oialo and gives himself a concussion. Then a Lions prop can't handle being driven over at a ruck and starts throwing down 😂
❤
Basically a fantastic All Blacks side versus a poor Lions side woefully mismanaged by Woodward. This Lions side was an embarrassment! What was clear to me as a Lions fan after watching the first test was that our forwards were totally overpowered by the All Blacks, Jerry Collins and others just bullied the Lions forwards. We got demolished up front.
Even tho all the British and Irish lions fans were trying to yell over the Haka New Zealand still showed them up
And the power of Ritchey Mcgraw with Tana Umaga captain on this team
For those JW fans here..the announcers stated it openly...
"...the other number ten"
"....could just look on..."
When talking about Wilkinson in this game
Hayley Westenra 🥰
You can see why Shane Williams did not have more Lions caps. He was woeful in defense. So many missed tackles. Look at the first NZ try alone.
This was back when rugby union was exciting to watch.
The best the northern hemisphere can muster, and the call them the lions, really really, New Zealand is the hardest place on earth to win rugby period even for the hot shot British and Irish lions.
Rugby 2005 awesome
Steve Thompson obviously had his head injury back then. He seems permanatly disoriented never knowing where the offside line is, where the back foot is, where the gate is.
RIP Collins
Gotta love Daniel Caaaaaarter
Gotta hate Tanker Uwankka
@@warrenconlongrant5300 no one hates Tana Umaga, only salty sore losers lol. Go have a cry boomer
The most emphatic thrashing of a (quite good) Lions team. Brutal test for 80 minutes, but this AB side and Dan Carter the GOAT were just too good in every department. Much better performance by the Lions than the first test...O'Driscoll needs an uppercut for being a moaning nancy.
That is the dirtiest lions team I have ever seen, continually putting the boot in. Wanted to fight rather than play
The Lions just fell apart after the first 20 minutes and just making too many bad decisions. They just got hammered!
and that lions team was frikn stacked 😂 all star players😂
45:59 lmao
King's of Rugby....ALL BLACKS
Come in........WEIGHT ! was the original call for engaging a scrum. 1 meter apart.100% I love the old rules. Rucking was the best..
As a welshman I'd like to say that it was mainly english players in the team 😉 And the coach was english. I hate the english.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As if you taffie bastards could have won the game. You guys come last at every rugby world cup haha!
Despite the Welsh absolutely suck at rugby
u are basically english

wilkenson with his swinging arms and farrell with his shoulder charges...
Farrell was a rugby league player
So that's his roots lol
All I hear is GO HOME LIONS!!!! GO HOME LIONS!!!!!!!!
What's with the reffing?
As an Irishman, I fucking love Paul O’Connells “clear out” 5 mins in!
Head hunting!
He might aswell been red carded for that because he went missing for the rest of the game
Eshayyyy
this was war...
I think I counted like 20 yellow cards!
I love this game but i don’t know about the raff and his rule😡
Gavin Henson was a no show in this game thru no fault of his own. The BIL's game plan did not let him do what is his capable of.
Rugby these days their is danger in what they do but not like back in the day
I ma wondering how many cards there wouldve been if it wouldve been reffed today. Just a random guess is lok 4 red and 4 yellow :D
And the lions 3 wouldve had a ban for couple of months
Sad Wilkinson came off , he would of learnt alot from Carter
🤣
So happy rugbys moved on from this embarrassment of referring and fisticuffs by the players every phase

If only the AB's could play like this again now. Such a shame that they've lost their aggression and offloading finesse.
Andrew Cole was out of his depth here
Bright Ĺ

Carter really should have passed with 2 outside him, for his last try. 1:33:38
Wow.
But night, lights, money. Hmmm . . .
Too many fights to be a good watch. Not in the rugby spirit. This looks like American hockey.
And so many cheap shots... Really a shame...
Beautiful game but those are some dirty Lions players lols 😂
Why would a lions couche put 2 little bettles on the wing to mark our 2 very poor selection
Pretty sure the first 3 was picked to poke the bear cus they can’t play for shit lol. RIL Legend Collins🙏🍺
that ref really sucks! :)
That's what happens when you disrespect the Haka.. hahahahaha
and the collective forces of England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland can't defeat a SINGULAR NATION shows how sad the state of the Lions LMAO; imagine if Australia and New Zealand and Africa vs England (can England defend the Southern Hemisphere team?)
This Lions team would have to be the biggest bunch of complainers ever to wear the red lions jersey. A number of the lions are acting as thugs, not rugby players. No wonder they lost this match by so many points.
why
@@john27mullins he literally just explained it lmao. Too busy being idiots than actually playing rugby.
