Crazy to see how much the game has changed over the years, especially with what players could get away with back then. By today's standards both teams are committing penalties galore at the breakdown, and there would be so many cards.

No comparison to today's laws, the laws of the game were different then. You can cringe now with the laws of the game you know today. But didn't mean nothing back then. They all lived with the laws of the day.

The 2005 Lions had 40 players in the team for a 10 match tour of NZ. Don't know if that was a good idea with nearly 2 different teams playing on the tour for rep games and the tests. Regardless the ABs were too good for them in 05.

Irrespective of the BOD tackle/cleanout, do you know what strikes me about the first minute of the game? Dan Carter.... Makes a break and puts in a pin point corner kick in the 1st 60 seconds. It was almost like a warning shot about the greatness we were all about to witness over the next 2 tests.
Today it would be straight red for both players and 6w suspension

You think back to players categorised as legends, such as Jonny Wilkinson. You sometimes think we’re they as good as we remember or was it just a few lucky moments.
But he truly was one of the all time greats. The try saving tackle against a 9 man over lap just one of those moments. Amazing!

I watched Tana Umaga play some games on TH-cam awhile ago, and I wasn't impressed. I think it must have been later in his career, because this guy in 2005 is a force! I watched the A.B. 2nd and 3rd teats just previous and it has been tres cool. Watching McCaw is like the guy has as much grit as he has talent. I came to rugby late in my life and have really enjoyed it and got rugbyitis. I'm even watch the Brit 1st division champ matches now.
I think something that hasn't been mentioned about the All Blacks in these comment sections is that they are a incredibly well run company. I look at the entertainment side, releasing video that's staggered in age, and promotion - the whole spectrum, from schoolboy on. Release a lot of interesting stuff but never too much at one time. So this is really an aside, but typing about this got me curious about who runs the company, and that would be (in a manner of speaking) Bill Osborne, which is probably not news for a Kiwi but certainly for a Canuck. You can't invest in the company cause it's basically New Zealand, which you have already own if you are a Kiwi and can't own if you're not (I assume) but I would definitely check out what companies he is a Director of, and which others he has stock in, if you can get that info. Also see what commercial ties the video and other department heads have.
Anyway, cheers from a guy who is planning to go to N.Z. just to watch some rugby sometime in the future, I hope. May not be tickets to a Men's World Cup but hey, I will sample the variety, even maybe some kiwi wines. Sevens' tournament and the Black Ferns would be cool, but I would be just as happy in a small crowd at a college game.

The Lions were completely overpowered up front in this series. It was like men against boys.
overpowered, out thought, out classed - take your pick. This is 100% a Lions tour to forget. Woodward was good for England at a time when his squad picked its self. But in this environment - not so much.
This Lions team don't seem to have any team spirit going on, not playing for each other
It happens when the match officials ignore a professional take out of a player that ended up in hospital .

Loads of biased comments on here, some fair. Let me say first and foremost, the best team won. Secondly the Lions tripped themselves up on selection, where Wilkinson should have started 10, with Greenwood 12, and Thomson should have started not Byrne, especially when you see the (thirdly) line out fiasco. Having said that, the referee was poor especially in the first 20 mins.
1st min the late dumping of O’Driscoll by Mealamu should have been pen and yellow card (red now). The ball had left the breakdown.

jason robinson had a bad match. The english players were wet flannels, welsh players were ok. Irish players, one got a card, the other played football at times and slow lineouts. Wilko should have played 10. and French referees dont' like calling out New Zealand cheating right in front of him, who'd a thunk it ?

16 years ago and still not forgotten! True, it was foul play but the fact is the BIL were always going to lose the series with or without BOD but the Alister Campbell lead hype machine mislead a lot of people into thinking otherwise so they harped on about the tackle ad nauseum.
Absolute mess of a tour, Woodward was awful and selected a team that was already outdated even just two years after the 2003 RWC win. All Blacks superior in all departments and really didn't need to disgrace themselves by attempting to murder Brian O'Driscoll in the first minute of the series.
Woodward picked a bunch of his buddies to have a great time . Rowntree for instance- What a useless codger. Studs high cheap shots and then hiding away!
