I applaud your efforts but would add the following. Never use spot putty on a crack through repair. Use a fiberglass reinforced bondo and use a 2 oz bi fiberglass cloth on the backside of the panel. Otherwise the cracks will come back. Then use an epoxy 2 part primer to ensure paint bonding followed by a few high build coats of primer wet sanding between coats. This will allow all those ugly imperfections from showing through. You can purchase exact match factory paint in a spray can and clear coat. Everything I mentioned can be purchased for about what you spent and you will end up with a factory or better finish. No insults meant. You did a good job. Just suggesting how you could go a bit further and end up with a perfect job.
@@marvino7132 thats a depends. If its two stage paint, you could scuff the gloss off the entire area, the spot in paint the color and then clear the entire fender. If its a single stage paint you have tow scuff off tge gloss and paint the entire fender. Hope that makes sense. Any actual crack must be stop drilled or the crack will re-appear like a crate in glass.
Looking back at his old vid HeroRR sure came a longway and improved so much since then from his old and new vids of how he tackles his bikes problem. But yeah this fairing repair tutorial had room for improvement nevertheless his efforts to share were enthusiastically recognized.
Thanks for uploading this. All of my fairings are messed up and I really want to fix them but I also ride the bike every day to work! Maybe this will inspire me, lol.
PVC glue? Most fairings are ABS plastic I believe - I repaired mine with 2 part epoxy glue - adhered good but still makes a line at the seam where the glue met the plastic - lots of primer and sanding to get it looking 100%
Some of my least favourite jobs. But I've vowed to teach myself how to do them well. Apparently, if you use a light coat of a contrasting spray paint (black on white filler, white on existing dark paint) on the sanded surface, then rub it down with very fine grit paper, it shows up the scratches that still need filling. There's a technical name for it but it's gone from my brain. It's like a witness coat. Great bike. Probably the best engine ever made.
Is will definitely affect the resale value bro. It's hard man I know it, I tried painting the tank and fender. on my Harley and it seems easy, but it's a bitch to get it to come out good..
U screwed this up brother good attempt but u needed to sand that alot more and primer and more sanding b4 u could spray any paint on there I noticed u didn't do anything on. The inside this repair will not last long

On that note, say i only scratched a fender withought cracking. Do i need to paint the whole fairing?

That's a fine job you achieved there, thank you for your video & how to,that's very thoughtful of you, thank you.
Sanding gives me goose bumps every time, but thank you for the video. I need to fix a few things
How does the removal of the vfr sticker make it look so different?
Good job on the bike btw
These old faired bikes look just amazing
Im about to try a similar repair. Thanks for the tips. Looks great for the cost.
I've got to do this to my VFR800 vtec cause I caught a patch of oil slick in the rain while braking and lost the front
Good repair job.Spray painting/prep lacks. But first time job well done.

Moderate Fkr
Guide Coat.
looks surprisingly good naked - wanted to do that with my 2000 but side radiators...nice job BTW
zip ties and stickers are even cheaper
And it would still look better than that paint job!
What bike is this?
What bike you buying next ? Or you gonna daily again the CBR ?
I'm not gonna ruin the surprise!
Should of ground it back i bet it just cracked off again is it fiberglass or plastic
It didn't, I saw the VFR last year and it still was holding up great. It's plastic.
This video should have been titled "how to repair motorcycle fairings like sh*t".
shoulda used a high bhuild primer first
hey you could have used a laqure top coat for a glossy look

did you use automotive paint?
I used Rust Oleum, link in description.
You should do 500 800 + 1000 to get it smooth
it's good that you're using rust olem, their coats are best.
That's what I heard. They were the best of the cheap paint :)
***** yes best in it's class. Lol
It was a nice fix.👍
If you want it fine you should always finish with a thousand grit
Good job!
looks like a 10 foot job, as in it looks perfect from 10 feet or more. :) it's actually a good video for beginner body workers.
hey is p400 paper smooth enough for this 10feet job? or do i need like p800?
Check out products at www.polyvance.com. It's a little more expensive, but they know their plastic repair.
7+5=13 logic

Probably going to drop it again so who cares.
Beautiful bike though
You should stop drill that crack.
I’ll never be your beast of burden.
You could have welded it
Funny enough i got brought here by the same bike 😅😅😂
1990 red vrf
Hero that was a terrible job
Damn I might just buy new fairings.. looks like a lot of work and time.. nice work though!
