"enduring quest for identity" or chasing a false dream? Some people climb the ladder all the way toward the top before realizing it is resting against the wrong wall.... I don't remember him, but it seems he was a decent fighter but not a great one. He also started pro fighting so young that at 29 he was past his prime. Few fighters, like Wilfredo Benitez, can win a title at 17 but clearly Salerno was so full of himself that he thought he was the "white Ali." Too bad nobody in his life couldn't help him find another passion to pursue. Sad story.
'Some people climb the ladder all the way toward the top before realizing it is resting against the wrong wall'!!!!! WOW! is that a saying where you're from or did you come up with it yourself? because that is one of the best things i've ever read on you tube. God bless mate!
@@prettyjohnshill76 Thank you! I did not make it up! Not sure, but I think it comes from the late Stephen Covey who wrote the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." I do use it quite a bit because I agree with you, it's a very powerful notion and can help some people figure out why they keep banging their heads against walls....Salerno seems to me to have been a prime example.
Yes Kevin, I could call Reverend Al and have a good laugh about you and the host of this video. Praising horrible god awful fighters simply because they look like you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 There isn't one Caucasian American boxer at the top of any division 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I can't breathe 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭😂😂 BUAH!!! 😂😭😭😭🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣😭😂😂😂😂😭😭🤣😭
Yes, you are right, M. Ali was his idol, but like all IDOLS he ended up in Hell, what good it did to M. Ali to be the " greatest " and then to end in hell for eternity.
Mike Spinks, one of the best Lightheavyweights ever would have mopped the floor with Salerno, knocking him out in 4 rounds or less.....,now go on home and get your Pizza Paddle Boy,lol.
They blamed for years and years Berbick and Holmes to have given unfairy beatings to an old Clay causing him serious brain damages, but nobody ever accused Clay to give a hard beat on a 50 years old Archie Moore, at least if Clay did not want to have his 4ss kicked by Holmes and Berbick he just did not have to step in the ring, what these two men had to say to Clay? "please we are your heavy bag, we let you take your win"
Fighters must avoid the parties, the night life, and the wild women. It is always recipe for disaster.
Sad story. Prayers 4 his family
Less known stories here, thx.
Sad story
I would love to know about Leon Macdonald next
Nobody in the history of professional American boxing has ever been allowed to get their hands registered at the ages of 15,16,or 17.
How bout the boxing story of Packy East or Tony Danza next?? 😏
He was really skinny & doesn't look that powerful. Fighters like that need insane footwork & fast hands to win.
Sugar Ray was skinny, espec. Up close and personal. My Popa took me once. Small but fast!!
why can't we here the man speak?

His poster stated Apollo Cred, instead of Creed. lol
