This is super helpful. I love the use of the beat to keep the moves. For beginners like me make sure you recognize that this is the FOLLOWERS steps.
Thank you love watching you two, explain things really well
You guys are amazing! I watched so many videos and after watching you, I finally got it! Thank you so much 😊
Wonderful! Learned on 2 back in NYC. Danced to Tito, Barretto’s, Mongo and so many other GREATS!

You guys are amazing I started taking salsa classes and it wasn’t sticking for some reason. but I got it now thanks to this video, thank you so much 👏🏽
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Great vid!
You are very nice, talented and explain very well! Thank you, dear people!
I’m confused the step looks exactly like salsa on one?
Kid of if you step 234/678, but there is an accent on &. NY style is different though, it’s 123/567
That's what happens when you "look" for the steps and not "listen" for the steps. (Visually: you can look for the break and you will 'see' the difference.)
It is the same exact steps. The difference is when you step when the music plays.
I started learning salsa on 1 back in 2010 but never learned the real dance till now. Thank you on the detailed explanation on how to match the steps.
Thank you Anna!
An amazing intro to the ON2 ;) Salute from Montreal ;)
@joel Salsa NYC I have one question. Does that mean you are only counting the 2,3(Quick, Quick) slow(4,5), 6,7(Quick, Quick), slow(8,1)
Joel, I remember you from back in the day here in Dallas!! It’s been years! Wanted to ask…
What is the name of the background music that you two are dancing to in 13:12/16:18? Want to practice on that…
❤
En candor still
Tough part is knowing WHEN to step to the music
The down beat of The Conga.
I took a class a couple weeks ago that had me stepping backwards in my left foot. What was that?
6:03 Baby having fun lol. I remember when she was in Maria's belly and I get to see her just grow on your instagram. Wish I could have another child but the door is closing for me.
My problem isn't hearing the congo. It's the horns and the piano that are so loud that I can't hear the congos anymore
I swear if you dance on 1 on that demo music, you end up dancing on 2 as well.
It would be great if they talked about the foot and how it moves and lifts off the floor, not just doing the move.
Anyone else jump at that baby laugh at around 6 minutes?
LOL this is funny!
2 is dancing on the off beat as does the conga off and on the beat.
You mention you dance on the ball of foot on 2 but you also mention on 1 its the flat foot which is more grounded. It seems on 2 takes requires more effort.
It's like everything. If you started dancing on 1 and now want to start dancing on 2, it will be a process to retrain your mind and body to respond to the second beat. With practice, you will be able to dominate on 2. It's about practice.
So you are steping
2, 3 and 6,7
Of 8th
This is an incredibly difficult explanation to follow when I've been brought up playing music. My counting of music is based on 4 (4 crochet) beats to a bar of music, the dancers 8 count is twice as fast as as the musicians count (counting 8 quavers) the on 2 of salsa is dance with a brake out step on the 2 (forward or backwards) of the dancers 8 count, its difficult to follow as you haven't managed to explain the 1 beat of this music and just thrown us into the syncopated rhythms of it
Well said . I also find it confusing without reference to the beat number. Btw it's not twice as fast. The dancers are using two bars of four beats each bar. The musicians are using one bar of four beats.
beginners should stick to salsa on 1 :)
