I've been shooting with M240 and MP240 for almost ten years, and I was never tempted to downgrade to the M10 or M11. It's a perfect for me as a press photographer. Keep on rolling!
Your photos came out beautiful! I really like my M-P 240 and its only downside has been its inability to set WB properly on AWB. And its auto exposure underexposes massively if you get even a hint of sky. Strange that a 2012 camera can’t handle these most basic of functions.
I normally keep my cameras at 5600K and if I need to change it, I’ll do that when I edit my photos. I find that AWB is very inconsistent and I don’t like the colors of my photos shifting from image to image, even if they were all taken in the same place. I prefer to have as much control over the image as possible.
I've been shooting a pair of 240's for years now and really enjoy the experience and the images I make with them. Last week I sold one of the 240's with plans on buying an M10, but now I wonder if I really need the M10. My dream camera would be a digital M-D, but not easy to find and the cost is a bit high... The 240 and 3 small lenses is all I have and need.
I really feel you on that. It was a fantastic camera while I owned and I know I’ll never be able to find another camera that will give me joy and satisfaction it did. That is, unless I get another Leica M camera.
Indeed: The LEICA MP240 is the QUEEN between all M digital camera bodies and plays the historical significance in so many ways, so as the M6 or the NIKON F4S.
Before selling the camera, try giving better optics a try! You don’t have to pay an arm and a leg, however some of the newer third party glass is nice (think Voigtlander apo lanthar instead of the Zeiss planar). The glass is higher quality with enough resolving power to pixel peep with an m11. Cheers!
Sadly I already sold the camera. I really do miss it so I imagine an M240/M10 will be in my future. I’ve heard amazing things about the 50mm APO lanthar!
@@michaelbennettphoto I owned a 240 for about a month before switching it with a Leitz Park edition M10. The thinner body, less weight, and updated button layout really makes the ergonomics a lot better in my opinion! Hopefully your Leica journey goes as smoothly, and you find the right fit for your needs! Cheers!
MP-240 and Leica 35mm Summicron ASPH V1 here. haha i feel you on the quirks! but i do love the image quality. I also have the A7IV so the leica is staying for now haha
Did the same thing and I regret it more and more every time I look back at images taken with it. Using an EVF, not having proper manual control with a shutter speed dial, having files that handle differently, bodies that don't work well with the compact M lenses etc. it's just not the same.
Yeah I do really miss the camera. I have a handful of trips coming up over the course of the next year and I’m trying to figure out how I can get another M240. When I think about traveling, I think about taking the M240 out and taking photos whenever I go. I’m sure I’ll have another one in the coming months.
Always curious about processing - would you ever consider recording a video of how processing looks on your end? Coming from film, I miss the simplicity of letting a lab take care of that for me and feel overwhelmed by Lightroom :)
Hey Derek! I would definitely be interested in making a video about that! Getting comfortable with Lightroom can take a bit of time, but once you get used to it, you’ll be just fine!
I find the journey to be of greater significance than the destination. Shooting Leica or Pentax 67 will slow the process down dramatically and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Then there are times when you want effortlessly take in focus shots of moving kids with blurry backgrounds and appreciation of high tech comes into play. It’s nice to have options!
Man im shooting on a Leica M8......The 240 seems like a highspeed train compared to the M8. your Photos look sick specially from the bouldering. I miss colorado
And, a full frame sensor, which only leaves a Leica M camera. That’s the reason why I chose the Leica M240, it checked all of the boxes for what I wanted.
If you had set the camera shutter to "C"ontinuous rather than "S"ingle you would have found the rate of shots to be the same. It's a good camera. Better when you test all the options or read the manual. ;o)
Unfortunately, this isn’t true. I was shooting in the “Advanced” metering mode which does slow down the operation of the camera. The camera has to open the shutter when I turn it on, which slows down operation, and from shooting one shot to another, it still slows down operation.
@@michaelbennettphoto It is true on mine. I tested it. And I just tested it again right now. Same shooting rate at "C"ontinuous in Advanced metering. It shot off nine in quick succession and then the buffer was filled. QED.
"I want a hybrid camera that can take very high quality photos and high quality VIDEOS ". Proceeds to buy the first Leica M with video capabilities and that EVERYBODY KNOWS is shit. 🤣🤣🤣
I didn’t buy it for that reason, I wanted to get out of the system that I previously was in, and I saw a post about someone wanting to trade their M240. I messaged him about a trade and he was down, so that’s how I ended up with the M240. I knew it wouldn’t be the camera that I would need, but it was a camera that I be been wanting for a while now so I figured why not try it out.
@michaelbennettphoto you're not going to get the level of performance from those other lenses compared to the leica ones. On the other hand. If you're doing videos etc. This isn't the best system.
Yes I can definitely agree with the lenses not preforming as well as the Leica lenses would. But unfortunately I just needed a camera that could do more than the M240 could. Although, I really miss the shooting experience that the camera offered as well as the amazing sensor. The files edited so well.
