One thing worth mentioning about the M240 is the battery life. It has the best performance I have ever had on any other camera. I have shot full events with only a slight drop in battery level percentage. That's honestly one of the reasons I love it
Just bought a M-P 240. I’ve had the X100F but the ergonomics were not my cup of tea. The only thing I could wish for with the Leica is better ISO performance but it’s still full frame and fast (cheaper) lenses are available.
I use the Q as a back-up camera for my 240s. It's great, but for my professional work, the M-P240 and M240 are my first choice. I've four M lenses ranging from 21, 28 (the Q), 50 and 90 mm plus a number of R-lenses too. WB issues with my 240s are unknown to me. I switch the camera into c-mode when shooting several exposures in a row. Sadly, this feature is moved into the menu on the M 10, M 11 and Q2. I once sold a M240 after owning it for one year, and I got £500 more than I paid for it. Nine month later I bought a new second hand M240 and was back in the game. I just missed the simplicity of it. Keep on rolling!
Color balance: I like the more saturated a bit filmy looking image style of the M 240. For better highlight retention in high contrast situations I am successfully using the 3 photos HDR mode which allows to take 3 images quickly after another handheld. They can be merged in PP and lead to a nice single photo. The slow startup is caused by the 1 GB RAM in the std M 240 - the M-P and M-E 240 models have the 2 GB RAM same as in the M10. The 2 GB models don't have this issue. I would never trade a Leica FF camera for a APS-C sensor based Fuji camera. But in the end it is subjective and all are tools - use whatever makes you happy.
I’ve read similar to what you’re saying about the higher RAM models booting up and just feeling snappier! I’ve never really properly tried handheld HDR before, might give that a go at some point! thank you for the tip!
@@Goughie imho, m240 more rich in colour and smooth in b&w , especially in old lens e.g my always love lux 35 1.4 pre-a and old rigid..m10 seems too clean , m10 greater in higher iso level (6400) and less vibrate of shutter but for the shooting snap ,i think mp240 is more than enough..
A very positive and enjoyable summary. Most importantly with some great pictures (especially the mustard bobble hat!). Here’s a suggestion for you… a Leica SL. The IQ is indistinguishable from the M10, the viewfinder makes manual focus a joy, and I love mine having come from an XPro2. The IQ is significantly better than either the XPro2 or my X100V. Oh and living up here in the Lake District I can confirm it’s very waterproof. Seriously, don’t knock the extra bulk until you try one.
It’s a camera I’ve ignored, and you’re right in guessing why with the size/weight! But maybe you’re right! Maybe I should give it a go! Beyond the bulk I’m sure I’d enjoy pretty much everything else! I do wonder if I’d be able to use it to record my videos too!
I think you’d like it. It is the most well made thing I have ever owned. I haven’t used the video, but I hear it will turn the average user into the next David Lean. I got mine from MPB and excellent ones are going for less than £1800. I like spending other peoples money. I do love using it and also the quirks like no marked buttons… so clean… my favourite Len’s is the Voigtlander 75 f1.5 and It is so joyous to use and focus on the SL even wide open. Also the sensor is optimised for M lenses and I’ve had great fun adapting vintage glass. I know, I am so biased… but I love it.
Interesting perspective on the leica. Agree with everything on the X100V :) it's my daily driver too now. Also, the photos you quickly showed are all amazing! Great video as always mate!
I am using X pro 2. I thing x probline up is somewhere between Leicam M and X100 series cameras. You get interchangable lens mount + all the things come with x100 except unfortunately leaf shutter.
Yes! I think i mention it towards the end! The Q2 is the camera that most intrigues me at the moment! I’d typically agree! And the Q2 for sure would likely showcase that, but here it’s old full frame vs modern crop, and modern crop wins in most ways I think
Good luck for your resell; it’s an excellent camera. I have one and as yourself, I tend to take my X100F (not V…), and leave this M at home. I also have a M7, but finding a photo lab is impossible in my region. My preferred remains my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic for it’s ease of exposure tuning. I just bought a Q2 and need to get used to take it with me, but it’s larger and more heavy that the X100…I keep my Leica’s as tangible assets in case of financial crisis (like my 2 collector Porsches).
My goal is to end up with an M10 to go along side my XE4 I just got today. Traded my V for it, I find the converter lenses a little tiresome to swap and also the TCL is big and heavy imo. I prefer to shoot 50 and 28 over 35, so for me it made sense. Hmmm maybe one of those fujis you’ll be making a video on is the XE4 😅🙏🏼
@@Goughie I like the idea of having an M body for my street work and giving me the film shooting experience without having to dump loads more money into film. Lol then I have the Fuji for taking out when I’m in situations where I need AF or I’m having a lazy day 😂. Can’t wait to see what you have in the pipeline, brotha!!
I actually just sold my x100v in favor of the q2. And I got the m240. So going in the opposite direction to you! :) I do have the xh1 and a range of Fuji lenses still. I agree the m240 is slower in many ways but the Leica cameras are such a joy to use! :)
I own both Leica Q and Fujifilm X100T. I feel like I was only happy with the X100T for 1-2 years like many digital cameras and almost forgot about it after lending it to a friend a few years ago. The 100T was an amazing camera for its size but it just does not inspire me. I always come back to my Leica Q because of the amazing color, lens and photography experience. Now I want to get a Leica M6 with Leica lens.
i have an m240 and a x100f. I have a love hate relationship with the m240 but what the full frame + fast lens gives me, the X100F simply cant. I see you're considering a Leica Q. I miss my Q and that camera arguably replaces both formers. it's that good. however, I'm going to suggest something that maybe blasphemy but i see no one talking about. How about you compare these, and specifically the X100V, to a Sony RX1R 2!
The Sony Rx1R is a camera that I always forget about, and then I’ll be scrolling through eBay see it, and think wow! Must give that a go, then I forget about it… and the cycle repeats! It’s definitely an interesting camera!
I own a Fuji X100S and a Leica M6, I also get to use my boss's Leica 240. If you have ever used a Leica M body there is an experience that The Fuji does not have. The Fuji, which I love the image quality just feels light and cheap! If you have owned any L Ms then you have lenses and the Fuji does not allow you that option and therefore you are limited in the amazing creative possibilities from the Fuji single lens! I love my X100S and my Fujica 690 film camera but lets get this straight, there is not much to compare except price!
Interesting video showing your thoughts on the M240.Love to hear your views on the Q2.As a 28/50 shooter I'm sold, saving up.Could the Q3 have the M11 benefits. It never stops.Hell they are all great cameras.Cheers.
Out of the current line up, even with the new M11, I think it’s the Q2 that interests me most currently! A Q3… well… maybe that could be nigh on perfect!
Hi there, such an informative video! One thing i wanna ask you. Have you ever met M240 with straight line vertical / horizontal line on the results? Because i found 2 M240s have the same issue. The first one with vertical straigt line, and the second one with horizontal. But in the second one, the issue is come and go. This is very frustrating me..
Are you saying there’s a line in the actual outputted images? I’ve never seen or heard of that! Sounds like a dodgy sensor! Which isn’t unheard of in M240s
@@Goughie yess in actual images indeed. 2 m240s of mine, so strange, right? I digging on the web.. just found some articles that talk about same issue on m240.
Hello there, I had the same issues with my mp 240..I had to send it back to Leica couple of times. well they said it's the issue for the 240*s.. I used mine with long exposure, and in a studio shoot, maybe if you use the same pattern it might be the cause.. and so far it's fine for now, took mine again in Africa and used it alone for the safari and very I am very surprised it handled well
Yeah, I love the full frame sensor of the X Pro 1, the razor sharp jpegs and raw files, the ability to use any legacy lens at the full frame the way they were meant, the weather sealing, the excellent optical viewfinder with accurate parallax... wait, what?

There's the option "Auto Power off". You can just set it to "off" and the camera won't go to to sleep anymore.
Leica hilight retention vs fuji dr400. Leicas, as a street photographers camera, need that feature.

X100V is an extremely expensive, 1-trick pony.
Bro that comparison made no sense.
Own a camera for five years and then sell it for more than you payed. that only possible with a leica. :D
I am not sure about the 5 years but nowadays it is possible with x100v as well
Keep it... You will regret it...
I think over time I’ll likely miss having a digital Leica, hopefully pick up an M10 or Q in the future at some point
