LET'S GOOOO IM HAPPY YOU GOT TO KEEP THE M2
Yeah dude I’m really excited about it!
Good call on not selling that Leica, you can always save up to buy what you need but finding a working Leica for an accessible price is more difficult.
Hey I really don’t think you need AF to scan film. You do need a copy stand and then once you set focus with focus peaking you really don’t need to change it. I don’t know your setup but I built a super cheap copy stand with some pipe and a piece of wood. Worth looking into. I’m scanning with a S1R and an old Nikon 105 with good results.
Yeah my set up is a bit “busted” as they say. But that’s a good suggestion. I might return the Fringer adapter and get some materials to make a proper setup.
@@michaelbennettphotoif you do let us know what you come up with. I’m looking into scanning also and was wondering what were the options out there
Why shoot film if you don't want the color shift, hue cast, softness and grain? What is the definition of professional grade film? Digital photography is the answer to all you are running away from when it comes to film and that's the reason most of us back in the days left film for digital but now looking back at some images I had in the 90s, 2000s I have come to see why digital is sterile and clinical and what we loved about photography then.. the color cast and the film interpretation of the scene rather than the documentary capabilities of digital which reproduces exactly what the color and scene was.. BTW the term professional grade film only applied back when there wasn't digital and most of them weren't the Portra I see yall rave about these days.. they were mostly slide film from the revered Kodachrome to Velvia, Sensia, Provia, Ektarchrome, Agfachrome CT-X etc... TLDR; In summary, my favorite film these days are the cheapest ones - no. 1 this Fujifilm 400, superior X-tra400/200/800, Orwo 500, ProImage100 and the no longer available pro400h ..
When did I ever say I don’t want “the color shift, hue cast, softness, and grain”?
Many Leica lenses also have a 1m close focus. Get a 50mm Canon lens and a handheld lightmeter, it will solve your problems. The P is a great camera.
So you are saying that those gorgeous colors under the bridge weren't at all made with 85B Filter? 500T giving such vibrant colors in daylight? I might try it then, I was only getting 250 D until now, because I was scared of the Tungsten balance. Any recommendations on how to avoid the blue ast or it can be easily balanced in Post?
I prefer the canon vi-L , for a lower price and it have three magnifications. But ngl the canon P look so cleannnnn
I have the 2 GFX budget busters: Fuji GF 50mm 🧁 and the 35-70. It’s an amazing little lens. Only reason I keep the 50 around is because it’s a little faster in low light. Add the Mitakon 65mm and you’ve got a mean trio.
I just bought an F3 and I'm so excited to use my first roll of film today 😊thanks for this video!
I'm happy to hear it! You’re going to love shooting film with it.
Hi, do you need to use crop mode on the gfx or the lens cover the whole sensor without any dark corner? Thx
It covers the full sensor pretty well. The corners can still be a bit smeary, but the lens covers with no dark corners.
I have a box of E-6 chemicals and a few rolls of E100 in my fridge but I have not yet delved into this world. I also have 200 slide mounts but I do not own a slide projector so that is (for now) pointless but I COULD mount real slides 🤣
Hi Michael! I actually shot my first 400 stock at 250 iso accidentally but now that im seeing this mistake was actually a GOOD thing, before I get my film developed would you say to ask the lab to pull -1? Or just leave as is & dev normally as if it was shot at 400? 👀
Hey! Sorry for the late reply, but I would ask them to develop the film normally! Giving it that extra light will make the film look really good.
@@michaelbennettphoto no worries!! Thanks so much! I actually did dev as normal & they came out great!!
I have the same 8sinn clamp as you, but for the life of me I cant seem to find the right USB-C cable to fit.All the right angle ones i buy just dont go in :(
I left a link to the one that I used in the description. It fits perfectly!
@@michaelbennettphoto Thank you! Just ordered one!
Nice one Michael, you did a good job there 👍
Thank you!
I mean, fuji 400 is cheaper than ultramax 400 in where i live so that works for me
Nice! Fuji 400 is a great film stock.
Have you tried pushing one stop ? I want more grain and contrast. Im afraid pushing it will ruin it but im not sure.
I haven't, but you should try it out. I'm sure the film will still look good.
You have a very similar setup to mine! do you mind making a video of the colour editing process for your GFX to make them look like your M2 images? love the tonality and depth of what you have in this video.
Thank you Matt! I actually use some presets that I created to edit all of the GFX images. I made a video using the presets if you want to check it out! Here's the link to the video: th-cam.com/video/1NnJFDX1EYs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VwqOzfbH4LUSXPSY
Отличные снимки! Привет из России! Успехов!
Большое спасибо!
Did you use a warming filter in daylight or did nothing and just edited in post?
I didn't use any filters when shooting the 500T. When I converted the images using Negative Lab Pro, the software seems to automatically correct for any color cast.
@@michaelbennettphoto Thanks.
I don’t know why Leica M2/3 fans continue to make the false claim that Leicas are built better than the Canon P when the Canon P has a metal shutter curtain that will outlast Leica’s fabric shutter curtain every day of the week and twice on Sundays. And that’s not some touchy-feely opinion; it’s an objective fact that makes the P’s build quality objectively superior. To be clear, I’m not hating on Leicas. I think they’re fine. But any person who hasn’t bought into the marketing or fan-boy hype and looks at both camera’s objectively can see that the Canon P (and probably other camera a well) are built just as well or better than Leicas. As far as design goes, I think one can say that the side-mounted strap lugs on the Leica is functionally better than the Canon P, and the focusing patch is ostensibly easier to use as well. However, the P has the larger 1x viewfinder, and it also has what any reasonable person would admit is a far superior designed film-loading system verses the Leica’s archaic and anachronistic bottom-loading system. So where design is concerned, what one considers “better” (in a utilitarian sense) will depend on the importance one places on any of those items mentioned. And because preference is subjective, one cannot dispute the preference of others. However, where something like quality of build is concerned, a camera whose cloth shutter-curtain is subject to deterioration and/or pinholes and will eventually require replacement cannot seriously be said to be built better than one with a metal shutter-curtain. To suggest otherwise simply sounds like fancy-boy hyperbole.
Bro, this is so weird but that Pentax 67 that belonged to you that I ended up with, I actually traded it for an M2 recently! 😂
Oh wow hahaha! Small world! Hope you enjoy your M2!
@@michaelbennettphoto Oh it's been flawless and such a joy to shoot with.
i have a 50sii and the camera is amazing ... the files are amazing ... and the GF55f1.7 is amazing
Yeah I agree! I really want to test out the 55mm. It looks amazing.
Your photos are beautiful!
Thank you!
Go for the 645 Pentax lenses, not much more expensive and they cover the entire GFX sensor since 645 is even larger
The Pentax 645 lenses look amazing. I've used the Mamiya 645 lenses and perform really well on the GFX sensor.
@ yes I find the Pentax and Mamiya 645 glass very comparable but my old man shot Pentax so I inherited his 75 and 150. Been pleased.
imo i focus wayyyy faster with a rangefinder vs my nikon f or f2. i think that reason alone is worth keeping the leica.
Provia and Velvia are sharper than Ektachrome, but has less dynamic range. Velvia shifts towards magenta. Ektachrome has a impressive dynamic range. I can underexpose 2 stops and still get reasonable scans. Ektachrome shifts a little bit towards blue. It could be purchased cheaper by buying the Kodak Vision 3 5294
That's actually how I've been buying my E100, bulk loaded from eBay.
Hey man, cool video great photos .. I have the same camera and I have same film in the fridge any tips on settings ? As I was told this film is great for shooting at night ! Keep on shooting on ! Peace ✌️ Tommy
Thank you! I shot the film at ISO 1000 and I got really good results. Maybe try shooting it at that ISO and see what happens.
just subscribed to your channel! The Mamiya 7 is my dream camera and hope to buy one someday. I currently have the RB67 and a 35mm. Where do you develop your film at? I'm looking for a new lab, I live in Atlanta, GA and my lab has been very hit or miss with scanning lately.
Thank you! I just send my film to a local lab for them to develop and I scan everything myself using my digital camera, Lightroom, and negative lab pro top convert everything.
You just sold me on getting one of these. Thanks for that!
Nice! You’re going to love the F3. It’s such an amazing camera
You have a favorite shutter speed? 😂
Hahahaha I find myself shooting at 1/125 all the time😂
Great video
Thank you!
Still selling that lens? I'd be interested...
I am yes! Feel free to shoot me a DM on instagram or an email. Both can be found in the description of the video.
@michaelbennettphoto hi Michael, I liked that review and also the lens. Problem is that I am based in Germany and currently traveling in Asia until mid-January. I guess it's a hassle with customs (and me not being home to clear it). Have you sold and shipped any stuff to Europe before? Regards, Gerald.
Amazing work! Thanks for this video! :)
Thank you so much!
what happen if you spin far on NiSi JetMag Pro True Color CPL ? is be loose? cuz the line is short.
The filters have really strong magnets on them so it would be hard to the filter to come off
If you love this camera like you said in the video, don't sell it. You will regret it. 2000 dollars isn't that much money to invest in a photography career. So the investment in gear that you love and can use for 20+ years is so much more valuable in the end.
I see where you’re coming from, but I can always get another one in the future. $2000 is a lot of money and I already have plans for how I’m gonna use to benefit me and my business.
Don’t sell it! You will regret it. Speaking from experience.
I do really like the camera, but I think selling it is the best option for me right now.
Love to see your insight on this topic. I feel like lot of people nowdays are just so used to seeing Leicas and other expensive gear that it became practically an standart to have one while only a fraction of us have the money for it, as you mentioned you had to sell quite a lot of stuff to buy the M2. Leicas are great, but you can definetly as you said take same photo with the F3 or just any other camera, all that matters at the end is the stock and the lens.
Yeah I completely agree. I’ve loved the Leicas that I’ve owned in the last, but they’re literally just cameras. They’re great cameras but when it comes to film photography, the body isn’t really all that important. I’ve enjoyed my time with it, but I’m excited to sell it and use the money for other things.
I recently bought a Leica m3 for a good price and told myself I was going to flip it. However, I can’t seem to let it go😂 but freeing up money is definitely a legitimate reason. Interested to see what you do with that $2000
The M3 looks like an amazing camera! As much as I love the M2, I am pretty psyched to get some money for other things.
I shot with the F in the mid-late 70's, then F3 & FM2N in the 80's and onward until I got lost in the migration to digital and cast about for a while until settling on D850's and a Zed 7 among others. However, the F3 remains the pinnacle of Nikon 35mm film cameras and the pinnacle among all others. I'm dusting off the F3 now for a shoot early next year!
I fully agree! The F3 is such an amazing camera.
I completely understand what youre trying to say, The exact same thing has been on my mine about my relationship with my M4 as well
Yeah it's a tough decision and as much as I love the camera, I know selling it will allow me to get so much more leverage for my career.
by the way, if you ever get rid of this converted G lens, hit me up :)
Shoot me a DM on instagram and we can talk! @MichaelBennettYT
reasonable comments and I totally agree with the decision. My end goal for 35mm is also a silver M-P but that's far in the future. Now I'm another one settled with a Canon P and a good 50mm. Now the next step is a good 35mm lens. Later comes the M-P - way later. Good video and good photos
Thank you for the kind words! The Canon P is an amazing camera and if I ever feel like I want to scratch the rangefinder itch again, I might pick another one up!
Canon P is such a fun camera. Bought a 7 as backup and it’s good but the P feels nicer.
Wonderful work and also narration. May I ask how you prepare your photos for your videos? It's nice with the white frame and the text which camera and film you use. And also which resolution (since I own a GFX 50s 2, too). I am starting in doing videos for youtube and struggling with hat.
Hey! I use a software called DaVinci Resolve. For the white border, I created a 16x9 aspect ratio white background in photoshop and I use to place behind all of my photos. So in essence, I import my photos into DaVinci normally and place the white background below the photos in the timeline and then reduce the size of the photo so the white background frames it.
