This was on free TV back when. This is more than a fight it's an all out war and Archie deserves to be mentioned in any ATG list and this fight IS the best comeback KO in the history of boxing period. You only see stuff like this in the movies, but this was real as real can be.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Moore in the '90s in San Diego. Thanksgiving morning my wife had sent me to the grocery for some last minute stuff. At the end of my driveway there was a Caddy parked street side. The license plate said Mongoose. The elderly guy driving was wearing a knit type beret and poring over some hand written directions apparently a little lost. I immediately knew who he was and introduced myself. He said his son had just moved into the neighborhood and Mr. Moore was trying to get there for Thanksgiving. When he told me the address, I realized he was only a block away from his destination. I was familiar with the address because I was friends with the homeowner, whom I had worked with for 10 years without ever knowing his Dad was Archie Moore. Best autograph I ever got. It included his address and a written invitation to bring the family to check out his boxing glove shaped swimming pool. Greatest P4P that ever laced them up. Total gentleman.

1:05 - No matter how many times I see that punch, it amazes me that Moore got up from it. You can see that punch shook his neurons to the core and detached him from his physical senses. k9boxingchamp Archie had a difficult life, but he always smiled. he fought the great black fighters who weren't allowed to fight for the title early in his career, they beat his ass, but that taught him how to fight. he was avoided by none other than Sugar Ray Robinson. and since Joe Louis was the heavyweight champion and Robinson was the leading welterweight and then middleweight, they wouldn't give archie a title shot for 10 years because they didn't want to darken the division. so when he won the title and his handlers went to pick them up he said "put me down, I should have been here a long time ago." then he held the title for 10 years... this is what forged Archie into an ageless, beloved warrior. RIP Archie.

His trophy room left a legacy for generations of a large though distant family to remember. Glad my sister took an interest in our family history more than I did, so I could learn to appreciate where we came from and what we were built of. Bought wraps a while ago, and took an interest in the sport. Who knows what my future holds. Archie Moore was damn near invincible.
His defense really kept him up when he almost got knocked down for the 5th time.
He was such a gladiator in the arena.
This man was fighting in mortal kombat

In today's boxing, after Archie Moore's third knockdown, the fight would have been called a TKO in favor of Durell.

The All time KO record which Young Stribling had at 129 before his untimely death ( remained unbroken for a period of over 25 years) Archie ended his career with 131 KO's. This is based on Boxrec.com although Archie's KO's are listed as being between 131-145 from various sources, himself stating 138.

Archie aka "the old mongoose " still has the highest ko record , this was a beautiful display of boxing done by him , to come back from being knocked clean and put on the canvas , to using all his knowlege and skills to get the W , its amazing that he came back from that

One of the most amazing fights in boxing history. Heaven knows how old Moore was at the time. Moore in later years resented the fact that he wasn't remembered as one of the greatest champions of all time. I agree with him -- he wasn't just a colorful character, he was an amazing fighter first and foremost.

Amazing fight!! Just shows you we need refs like that now -- and fighters who fight to win -- not just for the money -- TODAY they would have stopped it in first round -- and look at the FABULOUS fight we would have missed!! No holding all they did was fight.
My opinion Archie Moore ACTUALLY IMPROVED each and every single round!!! (first time I've ever seen THAT in a fight!)
Only complaints they could have filmed this so much better -- I mean they were filming top quality motion pictures in that year and they did close-ups on live TV in that year too -- so the technology was available -- and they announcers were very VERY lacking --
    BUT FIGHT WAS AMAZING!!
    Thank you for uploading😊

far superior in skill to modern one dimsensional boxers who have given up fundamental skills for flashy speed that isn't functional against a smart fighter. if you watch a guy like Stevenson he only looks fast against bums. anyone with an ounce of craft gives him problems.

Without a doubt, a top 10 fight of all time. Bernard Hopkins is great and deserves much respect, but Archie is way beyond Bernard, besides their age, there is almost no comparison. Bernard could never stay in the fight like that, even a young Bernard.

from something that almost killed him. the fact he was back in the ring less than a year later is not only miraculous but speaks volumes of who he was on the inside. How dare you make such ignorant comments about Archie Moore.

  • @jonwilxbuth
    @jonwilxbuth 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thats right. although at the time it was reported that stribling had 126. n on this night Archie scored 127. But as youve pointed out there is much debate as to how many KOS each man had officially. In any case, Archie still holds the record. Hopefully it will never be broken.
