    Both UAL 232 and JAL 123 had lost all hydraulics and they both flew for as long as they could, the former attempted to land but ended up crashing with 112 out of 296 dead (but both cases, at least there are survivors). This is the time where they managed to land the A300 intact even with no hydraulics, certainly an exceptional feat. (the A300 was eventually repaired but no one was willing to buy that aircraft and was later scrapped in 2018)

    Guaranteed the FAA was "lobbied" by the Airline Industry _to not mandate_ this technology due to the added expense it would be when manufacturing the airliners.

    • @221b-l3t
      @221b-l3t ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's software only. You could load the program into a regular flight computer, no modification needed. It's all digital in Airbus anyway. The computer is already flying the aircraft based on pilot input. It's a relatively simple matter for the same computer to use engines instead to execute the pilot commands. And most new Boeing's are like that too. Even retrofitting it on an older non fly-by-wire is relatively easy. The MD11 shown here, that used PCA to land was waaaay older than any "glass cockpit" as you call cockpits that rely more on screens than half a million switches. So I guess in an old liner you would need to mount a switch Control mode: regular, PCA.
      And a line in the emergency checklist. Loss of all flight control: select control mode PCA. Done. I bet if you asked every pilot to pitch in ten bucks it would be paid for. But no. It's happened like 5 times in 30 years so "not worth it".
      Probably eventually manufacturers will just add it quietly to new aircraft. NASA would 100% provide the software for free. That is their job. Not just space, aviation research too. They so it all the time. Some is used some is not but they make it avaliable to anyone welding together flying machines. I'm sure you could drop them an email and ask nicely ;) I don't see why it would be restricted It's not designs for a missile guidance system. Even those you can just look up in old NASA archives. The entire space shuttle design is public IP. You can build one if you like. Good luck with the RS-25s... take ATK 140 million to make one these days for the Space Launch System. The bill on that test launch...

    Isn't there a flaw in suggesting using the PCA system for this accident? Assuming what was tested was an intact aircraft, it possibly may not account for a damaged aircraft, meaning that the calculations the PCA would make would be off, depending on the new center of balance on the airplane. If an actual pilot or flight controller could jump in here and tell me if I'm wrong about this, please do. I think PCA would have been an amazing upgrade for pilots and should've been implemented, but It may not have worked correctly for this landing.

      I feel like the system was probably designed to take in information about how the plane was flying, and would be able to compensate as required. There was some controversy also. A nearby US military base had helicopters and rescue workers standing by minutes away but the Japanese government refused help and insisted on their own air force handling it, who handled it badly and took over 12h to airlift the first out, despite everyone knowing instantly where it had crashed. Many died in the night while the US personnel where waiting in fueled up helicopters for permission to rescue survivors. Eventually it was given the next day under public pressure. It ended up being a large stain on the government of the time. Especially the PM who had personally refused international assistance. It's still very controversial in some circles in Japan.

    The goal of this, they had hoped that the jet was a airliner carrying 150+ people to die in a crash!!!
    Had it crashed, it could have potentially crashed anywhere in iraq couldve taken out one of there leaders in one of there bases etc and it then would have killed potentially how ever many are in the base and 3 pilots?
    Ignorance doesn’t make it far, maybe thats why bombers are famous

    If they had a plane with A RAT or ram air turbine they could have easily had control
    But it hadn't existed yet

    • @22k_LOL
      @22k_LOL หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s not how it works, the ram air turbine is useless in that situation, with no hydraulic fluid it is impossible to manipulate the flight controls. The RAT is only used when there is no electrical power powering the hydraulic pumps, like when both engines are out, but the DHL crew had engine power so there was no point of having the RAT out.

    LOL... that word "Tarmac", 3:55 ... there is no Tarmac at modern airports anymore. Media needs to stop using the term.
    There are Aprons, Runways, Taxiways, Ramps and Aircraft Stands.
    from an expert on Quora: “Tarmac” is a word used by the media and other non-aviation sources to refer to the surface of an airport. The word “Tarmac” is not used in professional circles and is meaningless in the aviation world. Tarmac is short for Tarmacadam, a crude paving material invented over 100 years ago that is not appropriate for modern airport surfaces.

      a terrorist is a person who uses unnecessary violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. this was not a plane invading, it didn't have military personnel on it either. ironically no one on the plane was even american..so yeah they're terrorists.
