This... Wasnt a metaphorical funeral for Skywalker. By all visible means, the boy Kenobi trained, the Chosen One that Qui Gon found, gone that boy is, consumed by Darth Vader. They both died that day.

With this music in Revenge of the Sith, I believe we were watching not one but two funerals with the two scenes of Padme's funeral and Anakin being rebuilt and then being horrified that Padme, the only reason he truly turned to the dark side, was dead. Anakin also died that day along with her, and could only be brought back for a moment to save his son. A tragic arc Lucas created, but nonetheless amazing to watch.

+Roshan Sreedhar Thanks so much for the compliment. I agree the prequels get too much hate. Hey, every movie can't be pristine perfect. Some things were overdone sure, some things could have been explored fully or done a different way. We'll never get the "perfect Star Wars movie". It was Lucas's baby and he decided how he wanted it. It's his story and his universe, he can do what he likes with it. He did a heck of a lot better job than most series do with prequels and continuing movies. Star Wars fans should count themselves lucky with that.

I cry after ROTS because it's just so emotional.Anakin is my fav.and seeing him turn kills me.I also feel sad because of Padme and I feel bad for Obi-Wan.And all those people that he killed...it's just so tragic.I've always loved the prequels even though my family is pretty much ALL prequel haters. The actors did amazing jobs and I don't care that so many people hate on Hayden.I won't change my mind for them.My fav.scene in ROTJ is the ending scene. It's so happy. It especially warms my heart to see Anakin as a force ghost. He brought balance and now he is at peace.

2:58 I was 13 when I went to see Revenge of the Sith, I can still hear the tiefighter fly past the imperial destroyer as the newly reconstructed Anakin walks to stand beside the Emperor as Darth Vader, crossing his arms watching the constuction of the Death Star :'( the chills this scene gave me when I saw this in the Cinema still happen today.
It's amazing that even as a kid when my older Brother showed me the original trilogy for the 1st time in "99 when I was 6 yrs old I remember everything Dath Vader even though I had no concept of the films and what the story was, yet years on after going to see every star wars film.....to see this moment barely a teenager I cried, I realised Anakin had lost everything. I can remember going to the opening night with my brother, the audience clapping in the Cinema when Anakin took his first breath as Dath Vader and they all shouted "YES!!" and "WOOOO!" and instead of joining them I cried into my brothers arm. Watching the first 3 Episodes now that I'm older I can understand why people didn't enjoy them, however, I don't care what people say, Revenge of the Sith was the pinnacle of showing what pain, sacrifice and loss was, from Anakin losing Padme to Obi-Wan losing his Brother. The only moment that is on par is when Vader finally redeemed himself and saved Luke.
Edit: I'm here because I'm depressed after watching The Rise of Skywalker....to those who enjoyed it I envy you :(

aliso321 I completely agree. Having grown up with the Prequels in my childhood I enjoyed and loved watching episodes I and II as a kid at the cinema and then as I got older I started to understand the Hate The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones got. Because yeah with Jar Jar Binks in Episode I and the Romance in Episode II being really cheesy it was pretty bad in parts. But I still personally like them with aspects such as the Darth Maul Fight, Palpatine’s Rise to the top of Political power through Time, Count Dooku and the Clone troopers. However I always stuck to my guns that the Revenge of the Sith is a Frickin AWESOME Star Wars movie on Par with the OT and a Masterpiece of Cinema and I had debates and fall outs with anyone who tried to tell me otherwise. The Revenge of the Sith is my personal Second Favourite Star Wars movie after The Empire Strikes Back.

Now you know how the fans of the original felt about the original prequels but yeah. Seeing Anakin's sacrifice amount to nothing through a trilogy of films hurt both series as both main characters' journey meant nothing and they died for very little. My mom and I went to theaters and from when Anakin destroyed the Jedi Temple to Padmes death every scene in between I could feel Anakins pain, I could feel him slowly dying, once Padme finally died after giving birth and this scene came up I cried and it still impacts me to this day. At that moment Star Wars became part of my life, I’m 22 now, and I can still feel his pain. Lucas did a fantastic job with the prequels. We need you back man.

The death of a wife and mother, the death of a husband and father, the birth of a monster and the rebirth of an Empire after one thousand years of extinction. Padme did not die from a broken heart, she died from life drain. Only three Sith masters were able to fully master life drain, those Sith were Nihilus, Plagueious and Sidious. No one could beat life drain, the only ones who could were the exile and his companions when they were fighting Nihilus on the bridge of the Ravager during the battle of Citidal Station.

When I watched this scene in this movie, my heart hurt will all the emotion, but I admit Vader's scream felt strange for me. However, later I read the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith. This scene is my favorite in the novel. Reading Anakin/Vader's POV in this scene made my heart bleed. And the novel explained the extent of Anakin's injury beautifully. I could not stop my tears. It was very tragic, but it was written beautifully.
Do you know that when Vader screamed in the movie he actually directed all his anger and hatred to Palpatine? He put the blame of Padme's death to Palpatine, before realising it was his mistake all along, a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Damned. I love this scene in the novel.

I adore this piece of music, my favourite part is the end where they combine the dart vader theme with those tragic sounding violins, it shows that we have vader now (a sith) but he's plagued with tragedy, pain and heartache for the rest of his life and then the violins fade and it ends on vader's theme, theres so much meaning behind this music

1:22 makes me think of Vader having nightmares about his past and although he is now a Sith Lord left scarred and deformed underneath an armoured life support suit, he after having these nightmares about what he could have become and how if he wasn't so arrogant and impatient, he would have become a Jedi master, and he would happily live with his wife and children on naboo, and with sidious dead, the jedi order would live on through harmony and peace, and Vader could not do anything except fuel himself because of his mistakes of following palpatines manipulative ways...

  • @andrewfortmusic

I don’t remember how I reacted the first time I saw this film. But I do remember the circumstances. As with the other Star Wars movies, I was young, perhaps 5 or 6, and I watched them all with my dad while we were on vacation at a condo near a beach. Back then I only cared about special effects and music, and though I was able to follow the plot, it wasn’t the focal point to my young brain. Now, after having rewatched the films dozens of times each, the poetry of the cinematography and writing combined with the music is just incredibly beautiful.
Star Wars has created some wonderful memories in my life, from watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars with my dad every Saturday morning as we enjoyed breakfast, to rewatching the movies just to hear the soundtrack, to playing The Force Unleashed, the KOTOR games and Jedi Fallen Order for the first time. Even reading the books (mostly late at night), and the many hours spent consuming Wookieepedia’s exhaustive catalog of information just because I was curious. Not to mention that I listened to the soundtracks almost every night while I slept. My dad and I still watch pretty much every piece of Star Wars media, from The Mandalorian to the Clone Wars revival to the Bad Batch, whenever we have time.
I think one of the most important impacts Star Wars has had on my life is that I’m now a composer because of my fascination with film music-in particular, that of John Williams. I started playing violin when I was five so I could learn the theme to Schindler’s List, which I had heard in the car, and it only progressed from there, especially as I consumed a steady diet of high-quality film music. And if not for film music, I would never have discovered Wagner or Sibelius or Dvorak or Mahler or Rachmaninoff or Debussy or Ravel! Now, I’ve drifted away from film music stylistically, preferring an admittedly French approach to harmony, in contrast to the very rich Austro-Germanic tradition of film scores. But I come back to it often, because it grounds me and reminds me of one of the reasons I am so obsessed with writing music.
    So thank you, George Lucas.
    Thank you, John Williams.
    And thank you, Dad.

Now... here we stand... rest in peace. The lineage ok skywalker
Schmi: died in her son's hands.
    Anakin/vader: died protecting his family
Padme: died after giving birth, unnaturally if you may call it
Han: died trying to bring his son back
Luke: died protecting his own sister and her group
    Leia: died saving her son
*redacted*: died... saving the one he loved..
It's funny, this whole family death started with the ability to save others from death, and here, it comes full circle
