Ian McDiarmid is such a great actor, combined with the Emperor's theme his presence absolutely dominates any scene he is in, not to mention his legendary quotes
Snoke isn't even really a character since Jar Jar Abrams and RJ have their own independent ideas . they probably both have different ideas on his abilities, and For Sure his motivations. Palpatine is a fully realized character

I was sad to find out that song wasn't playing when darth vader killed the emperor. Maybe its just me but exactly at 6:22 to 6:44 the dark chant mixes with a spice of hope. Would have been perfekt for the moment when Anakin comes back.

@@sbivey21 Palpatine was born around 84 years before the Battle of Yavin which makes him 88 years old at Endor. He did have clones but he only transferred his consciousness to them after his first death after Vader threw him down the reactor shaft.
I love the Emperor, one of my favorite villains. Arguably one of the best villains of any series. Ian McDiarmid did such a terrific job portraying such an insidious and mysterious old man in Return of the Jedi, in hardly more than a few minutes worth of screen time. Then in the Prequels he just blew it out of the water with how manipulative, cunning, and campy Palpatine was. Conning literally the entire galaxy and the entire Jedi order. A devil in sheep's clothing. I hardly consider the Sequel trilogy canon. It ripped everything great about Palpatine to pieces.
Maybe even the best villain. If you don't know about how he is in the OT you'd barely even see it coming and he manipulated everyone SO PERFECTLY it's just scary

I disagree as to whether he was the most powerful Sith Lord, the top two would be Vitiate (from the Legends canon)....and Darth Vader prior to The Suit.
Sxthis Perhaps when he was trapped within the metal husk we have seen him in, but before that? Not to mention the staggering potential that everyone credited the man for having.
One thing I admire about the Original Trilogy is how the movies portrayed Vader to be THE villain in the beginning, but then we find out that he is someone who is under the influence of the dark side and is actually suffering. The Emperor is the person behind all of it and is the actual, main villain. It isn’t until the prequels where we see how it all started.
At 6:08 is the track called Final Duel (between Luke and Darth Vader), probably one of my favorite, lesser known tracks in Star Wars. You can feel the emotional battle going on inside Luke's head as he desperately wants to help his father back toward the light, but also knows the threat he poses to Leia. Meanwhile, Palpatine's influence is raging over the entire battle, encouraging Luke to give in to his anger and become and even more powerful apprentice to him.
Emperor Palpatine truly appeared in the third movie of each trilogy. Original Trilogy: We see Palpatine in person for the first time in the third movie. Prequel Trilogy: We see Palpatine as the deformed person and him carrying out his plans for the first time in front of the Jedi since he was exposed in the third movie. Sequel Trilogy: We see Palpatine (somehow) return in the third movie.
This is the most horrifying and resonant type of evil, not the angry, shrieking lunatic, but the quiet, calculating and intelligent manipulator who knows how to hurt you the most in all the worst ways they've studied about you for their own sadistic obsession.
This literally sounds just so dark, like, it could totally be from a much darker movie. Really emphasises the true horror and almost otherworldly evil of Palpatine

Palpatine will always be my favorite Star Wars character. He caused a war where he manipulated both sides to wear down the Jedi, pulling the strings right in front of them, to deliver the final blow with Order 66. He ruled much of a galaxy with an iron fist for 20. The remaining Jedi were turned into the Inquisitors, their throwaway executioners to hunt down the last Jedi. He devised a contingency plan to destroy and reform the Empire as the First Order. He partially achieved his goal of cheating death with his master Plagueis's ability to transfer the soul to another body, transferring his soul to a clone body. While Operation Cinder was taking place, he hid in Exegol, in the unknown regions, using the Sith Eternal Cult and their offspring, the resources accumulated during the Empire and those that his homunculus Snoke sent him once the First Order was consolidated to prepare for 30 years his revenge with the Final Order. Palpatine is not 2 steps above you, he's 20 steps above you. He can plan everything with decades of anticipation and all happen as he planed, and even if the things do not happen like he wants, Palpatine still have an Ace under his sleeve. I know that many people didn't like the explanations in Episode 9 about how Palpatine returned and the construction of the Sith Fleet, but I personally don't mind

5:15 always gives me the chills.... I first heard it when I was playing Star Wars: Clone Wars on the OG Xbox as a kid. It really stuck out near the end of the Raxus Prime missions, especially before Dooku flees the planet and leaves behind a Protodeka to cause serious problems for you. I wish my old disc still worked. It's super awesome to hear it in the movies, too, knowing they were where such a chilling piece came from.

He's easily my favourite Star Wars character. In ROTJ his presence was more sinister becasue you didn't know his backstory. I imagined him to be thousands of years old and from some ancient ethereal plain, like a demon who came into this dimension and has unholy levels of power.
Emperor Sheev Palpatine will forever be perhaps the greatest villain to ever exist as a character. Now, all the so called villains in every movie is toned back from their evil potential because they don’t want to “scare” people too badly. That’s what a real villain is supposed to do! And that is exactly what Palpatine does every time he’s on screen. He gives you chills, goosebumps. He makes you sit on the end of your seat. He is evil at its finest. The best villain, in my opinion.
I need everyone to hear me out on this: A new Star Wars saga called the Sith Saga (This is all based on Star Wars canon. I'm not just making this up off the top of my head). The first episode is about the first group of Jedi to turn to the dark side. they turn at the end of it, after the episode shows the first beings to use the force, giving it new meaning to what it means to use the force. New powers are discovered by Jedi and they learn not to use the dark side, but one Jedi discovers the power of the Dark. He brings his followers with him to Malachor where they construct the first Sith temple. Enter Episode II: The Rise of The Sith. Great battles are fought and won by Sith as they rise to power in this episode. The lightsaber battles are some of the best in the saga here. Jedi are almost wiped out from the Sith. Episode III: Revenge of the Jedi. The thousands of Sith are torn apart from within (partly because they have so many in the order that they think they can become too powerful) and fall until only one is left; Darth Bane. he takes a singular apprentice, starting The Rule Of Two. Each episode after this would focus on 2 Sith: the master and the apprentice. Ep3 would be Bane and Zannah, and so on, until we reach Episode 6 or maybe even 9. Obviously there's not enough time to create an episode for every single Sith. BUT, the last episode would start with Darth Tenebrous and Plagueis. About halfway through, Plagueis the Wise strikes down his master and soon takes on Darth Sidious. At the end of the film, Darth Plagueis is passed out and his guard is down. He is unexpectedly killed by the evil mastermind Darth Sidious and is not able to save himself. The very last scene in the saga would show a young Senator Palpatine put on his cloak and heading into a room to find his apprentice, whom he had broken the rule of two for, from Dathomir, waiting for his order to find the young boy that would start a whole new saga. This is just a thought I had just now, and I'd love to see it happen on the big screen, seeing how much I love Sith lore, but I know it'll never happen, but maybe, just maybe it'll become a reality in a couple decades.

Note how he stopped shooting his bass Sith lightning after seeing her stand again (in an act of surprise), similar to how his smile turned to a frown seeing Ben stand up prior to that scene.

I love the Emperor, one of my favorite villains. Arguably one of the best villains of any series. Ian McDiarmid did such a terrific job portraying such an insidious and mysterious old man in Return of the Jedi, in hardly more than a few minutes worth of screen time. Then in the Prequels he just blew it out of the water with how manipulative, cunning, and campy Palpatine was. Conning literally the entire galaxy and the entire Jedi order. A devil in sheep's clothing.
I hardly consider the Sequel trilogy canon. It ripped everything great about Palpatine to pieces.

The father crossing swords with the son in an intense fight all planned out by the emperor... and Luke is falling right into his trap. He forgets his training, he uses his hatred, almost kills is own father, and nearly abandons the light.

One thing I admire about the Original Trilogy is how the movies portrayed Vader to be THE villain in the beginning, but then we find out that he is someone who is under the influence of the dark side and is actually suffering. The Emperor is the person behind all of it and is the actual, main villain. It isn’t until the prequels where we see how it all started.
At 6:08 is the track called Final Duel (between Luke and Darth Vader), probably one of my favorite, lesser known tracks in Star Wars. You can feel the emotional battle going on inside Luke's head as he desperately wants to help his father back toward the light, but also knows the threat he poses to Leia. Meanwhile, Palpatine's influence is raging over the entire battle, encouraging Luke to give in to his anger and become and even more powerful apprentice to him.
Anybody else here loves the part from 6:09 on? It gets really deep amd intense, love it!

Palpatine will always be my favorite Star Wars character.
He caused a war where he manipulated both sides to wear down the Jedi, pulling the strings right in front of them, to deliver the final blow with Order 66. He ruled much of a galaxy with an iron fist for 20. The remaining Jedi were turned into the Inquisitors, their throwaway executioners to hunt down the last Jedi. He devised a contingency plan to destroy and reform the Empire as the First Order. He partially achieved his goal of cheating death with his master Plagueis's ability to transfer the soul to another body, transferring his soul to a clone body. While Operation Cinder was taking place, he hid in Exegol, in the unknown regions, using the Sith Eternal Cult and their offspring, the resources accumulated during the Empire and those that his homunculus Snoke sent him once the First Order was consolidated to prepare for 30 years his revenge with the Final Order.
Palpatine is not 2 steps above you, he's 20 steps above you. He can plan everything with decades of anticipation and all happen as he planed, and even if the things do not happen like he wants, Palpatine still have an Ace under his sleeve.
I know that many people didn't like the explanations in Episode 9 about how Palpatine returned and the construction of the Sith Fleet, but I personally don't mind

5:15 always gives me the chills.... I first heard it when I was playing Star Wars: Clone Wars on the OG Xbox as a kid. It really stuck out near the end of the Raxus Prime missions, especially before Dooku flees the planet and leaves behind a Protodeka to cause serious problems for you. I wish my old disc still worked. It's super awesome to hear it in the movies, too, knowing they were where such a chilling piece came from.

Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

It is said that the hero of the story only truly proves their heroism due to the sheer power of the villainy they come up against.
He's easily my favourite Star Wars character. In ROTJ his presence was more sinister becasue you didn't know his backstory. I imagined him to be thousands of years old and from some ancient ethereal plain, like a demon who came into this dimension and has unholy levels of power.

Emperor Sheev Palpatine will forever be perhaps the greatest villain to ever exist as a character. Now, all the so called villains in every movie is toned back from their evil potential because they don’t want to “scare” people too badly. That’s what a real villain is supposed to do! And that is exactly what Palpatine does every time he’s on screen. He gives you chills, goosebumps. He makes you sit on the end of your seat. He is evil at its finest. The best villain, in my opinion.
I need everyone to hear me out on this: A new Star Wars saga called the Sith Saga (This is all based on Star Wars canon. I'm not just making this up off the top of my head). The first episode is about the first group of Jedi to turn to the dark side. they turn at the end of it, after the episode shows the first beings to use the force, giving it new meaning to what it means to use the force. New powers are discovered by Jedi and they learn not to use the dark side, but one Jedi discovers the power of the Dark. He brings his followers with him to Malachor where they construct the first Sith temple.
Enter Episode II: The Rise of The Sith. Great battles are fought and won by Sith as they rise to power in this episode. The lightsaber battles are some of the best in the saga here. Jedi are almost wiped out from the Sith.
Episode III: Revenge of the Jedi. The thousands of Sith are torn apart from within (partly because they have so many in the order that they think they can become too powerful) and fall until only one is left; Darth Bane. he takes a singular apprentice, starting The Rule Of Two.
Each episode after this would focus on 2 Sith: the master and the apprentice. Ep3 would be Bane and Zannah, and so on, until we reach Episode 6 or maybe even 9. Obviously there's not enough time to create an episode for every single Sith. BUT, the last episode would start with Darth Tenebrous and Plagueis. About halfway through, Plagueis the Wise strikes down his master and soon takes on Darth Sidious. At the end of the film, Darth Plagueis is passed out and his guard is down. He is unexpectedly killed by the evil mastermind Darth Sidious and is not able to save himself. The very last scene in the saga would show a young Senator Palpatine put on his cloak and heading into a room to find his apprentice, whom he had broken the rule of two for, from Dathomir, waiting for his order to find the young boy that would start a whole new saga.
This is just a thought I had just now, and I'd love to see it happen on the big screen, seeing how much I love Sith lore, but I know it'll never happen, but maybe, just maybe it'll become a reality in a couple decades.

Note how he stopped shooting his bass Sith lightning after seeing her stand again (in an act of surprise), similar to how his smile turned to a frown seeing Ben stand up prior to that scene.
