An excellent review, very scientific and to the point.
Myself, I have the LG 27GL83-A which is the non-usb version of the 850. I actually found that the HDR does show slightly more detail in the darkest areas when looking at a Pluto satellite picture, whereas SDR would just display these pixels as black. That said, SDR does have better contrast and colors pop out more in that setting. I play in HDR myself. The motion blur is inexistent, smooth as peanut butter.

Just got the LG GL850. Zero light-bleed, and no stuck/dead pixels. Red is over-saturated by default, so toned it down a bit in the settings. Brightness is way too high out of the box, but again, simple to fix in the settings. Contrast seems fine to me. Gaming and GSync work great; very happy with this monitor, as this was what I bought it for.
Only slight negative would be the panel uniformity - mine is very slightly lighter on the top-right when viewing a pure white background. In normal use, however, it's simply not noticeable.
This is my third IPS display, and it's the best by far. For the price, I think it's excellent. Highly recommended for those looking to upgrade and have a gaming focus.

Rtings! When will a true hdr monitor with 144hz qhd come to market? I'm waiting for that time when graphics cards can keep up as well. THank you for all you do! Subscribed since 2016!
Great comparison. I am better informed for my decision between picture quality and performance! Thanks Rtings Team :)

I ended up buying the Razer Raptor 27 Monitor. Using it with a Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop with the RTX-3080 FE Graphics Card. Pretty happy with this little set up specially with today's pricing on PC parts and graphics cards to try and build your own PC.
BiG upgrade on Monitor vs my all in one HP TouchSmart 610 from 2011 lol! But I agree on the black levels looking a little gray at night time viewing. I don't get that on my HP TouchSmart Monitor but the colors and refresh rate is way better on the Raptor 27.

I bought the LG screen a few days ago and had massive backlight issues, like most people it was the lower left corner. I got a replacement model and it was even worse.. I sent that back too for a full refund (which is nice) but I'm really not sure what screen to get now.. or try the IPS lottory again. The Razer still isn't really worth thinking about considering its price compared to other models.

I would like to see you guys also test the audio out jack on monitors that support it. It goes without saying that not all audio out jacks are made equal. The one on my Samsung monitor distorts at high volumes. I'm sure other monitors might have their own set of issues. A simple test for THD, noise and frequency response should be enough.
