    We recently made a video on the channel talking about something that helped me with gaining some distance...and I think the warnings were severely overlooked inside that video. To be fair, I understand the importance of putting information out there on the internet which is not something I take lightly or for granted. Today I wanted to share a video containing my Coach, Mike Strauss, and his perspective from the two weeks to Maple Hill series we did here on the channel. This also contains some additional warnings from Mike which are quite important. :)

    The original video really helped me. I had an issue where I was occasionally having early releases and it made me realize that I can grip the disc more firmly (not necessarily as hard as I can, but firm) and also gave me more of a feel for that ripping out of the hand feeling and also gave me some more distance on my drive. Anyways, thanks!

    I remain in the idea that it is an awesome suggestion, also for me, a very weak thrower. Days ago I forgot this tip, and I did't understand why I was getting worse in my trhrows... Then it rained and I couldn't retry the tip. But I think it will be good. In those first days I made awesome throws, also in precision.

    Your original video was quite helpful as I was also “helping” the the disc out of my hand. It would become more pronounced the harder I would throw it. After a few rounds of trying to grip the disc as hard as I could and a few grip locks I don’t really have to think about it other than absolutely max power throws anymore. Now to work on the power pocket video Josh just released ;)

    I am so glad I went back and found this video. After several years off the course and a decline in physical fitness, I have recently returned to the game. I have been griplocking really terribly on RHBH to the point where I basically won't throw it on the course and only attempt it in field work. I recognize its the throwing mechanics, but I am super glad to have it confirmed again.

    Appreciate all of your videos Robbie! I can definitely see the mental side of my game vastly improving compared where it was at the start of the year. I still have a ways to go in the form category, but with all of your videos I am noticing tweaks that I am able to make in my form that has helped tremendously. Keep up the great content!

    This has been super helpful, now I just have to start trusting my throw around water. Every time i go to throw around a lake or something I get nervous and let go again. More practice will hopefully clean that up though. Great video as always Robbie! Keep em comin!

    You know it's kind of funny, but I'm 740-rated recreational disc golfer, and I've not had that grip issue, per se, and I've always felt snap when the disc comes out of my hand, even on 250' backhand throws. I tried applying this fix to see if it helped me - gripping it harder - and at least for me it generated no extra distance, and the only difference I experienced was my fingers hurt a lot more after each throw. So I think that helps to show not all fixes are for everyone. That said, I think this video (and the original) helps to illustrate how targeted fixes can be useful for people experiencing their own individual issues. 🙂

    My man!
    When I combine the Joel Freeman “window”
    And the Robbie C “grip it and rip it”
    I get immediate results.
    My only issue is I have to think “hyzer”…because I’ll release on anny if not.
    I’m applying this to both power and fan grips!

    So excited to see your channel get a lot of success! and especially with your own growth and success in disc golf and in life. I grew up in the Chicago land area and would play that course in Streamwood often. Great coaching too! Very helpful now time to go experiment. Can't wait to pick up one of your discs on foundation. ✌️

    Another great video. Thank you! I am interested in Michael Strauss. He pops up in your videos sometimes. He seems to be a very experience disc golf coach for pros and amateurs, but does not produce a lot of content. What is his back story? Was he a pro once upon a time? Who does he coach (I know he works with Uli and Robbie C, but who else?)? Why does he coach? Why does he not product much content? Video idea...?

      Just found a podcast with Michael Strauss on it: "Season 3 Episode 7 - The Mad Scientist of Disc Golf with Mike Strauss". Little bit about Mike at the start of the podcast and then they really focus on Mike about halfway through. Very interesting about his past, what he does now, and his thoughts/teaching.

    Great topic. I watch the pros a lot and their styles differ so much, from Barsby, who looks like he’s literally gripping disc with only thumb and index finger, to Proctor, who looks like he’s choking the disc to death. I saw Eagle recommending gripping with 75% power, whatever that means. In terms of having the disc rip out of my hands, it felt great the 5 or 6 times I’ve actually done it, but it’s rarer than a solar eclipse.

    When i tried to do a pinch grip I ended up getting more speed but developed tennis elbow which messed me up. I have since gone away from pushing down with thumb and just getting the fingers in a tight grip and i have been good.

  • @jjhill001
    @jjhill001 ปีที่แล้ว

    Before watching the video, my experience with your grip advice was more a give the grab it as hard as you can thing one rip (you just gotta) but the more overarching advice was more to just make sure you're firmly holding your disc in general, you don't need to be vice gripping your 150' approach.

  • @okgo44

    Love all your vids! I will say that I just recently tried this method and absolutely screwed my index finger by dripping too tightly. It’s been about a month now, and it’s still too injured to throw a normal grip. Be careful folks.

    Does this also apply to forehand and approach shots? Is the disc always supposed to come out on it's own and we just adjust how hard we grip depending on how hard we are gonna throw? Or do we have to open the hand for approach shots and forehand throws? Lol. My mind is blown because I've always opened my hand. Never knew it could even come out without letting go.

    Thumb flat on the edge of the flight plate or thumb tip pressing down? I'm trying thump tip down lately and I think it is helping me get a little more spin and a little less frequent early release. Apparently I have the grip of a small child 😂

    Thank you for all of the teaching. I have just recently threw my first round ever (only a +11 after 18). Just a few questions.
    What happens if you do grip lock? I have a super strong grip (over 140 lbs with my right and a 135 lbs with my left). Yes I do throw with both arms ( drive with my right, approach and putt with the left). Is there a way to measure your arm speed? Or is just watching the disc do it's thing?

    So, is "grip locked" just a misnomer? Should it be called something different and what causes it if it isnt gripping too hard?
    Im more confused now 😂

  • @bobbybobman3073
    @bobbybobman3073 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds like I need to procure some finger tape ... Cause the friction between my index finger and the disc ... Sounds like I really should back off my grip a little.
    Sidenote fan grip is finger pads to the bottom of the flight plate, and power is finger pads to the inside of the rim.
    ABSOLUTELY DO NOT try to grip the disc as hard as you can finger nails to the bottom of the flight plate, with finger tips on the inside rim ... I tried that one ... Threw all of 4 shots with it till the pain was intolerable, and I'm young ish and healthy. Had to take 5 days off to feel back to normal ... While that grip might be good for climbing it's really be for disc golf.

  • @itisjustmedude
    @itisjustmedude ปีที่แล้ว

    It sounds like you could use the hard grip to diagnose someone leaning forward, arming, or rounding. Grip hard, grip lock, ok let's back up and fix the problem.

    Wait, you're not supposed to release the disc by loosening your hand?

    • @AlexsMemeDump

      With correct form the disc will come out on line without you loosening your hand. With less than perfect form you might need to release it
