She’s a good grunt up that hill on the Cascade side! The loop around to Kaipo is very cool. The bush half way along the Hinemaia to the north is very nice and holds some good animals.
Beautiful bush, it’s been about 6 years since Graham & I did the loop, overnighted at Cascade (pity about road section), your video brought back fond memories so thanks Jesse
Oh so beautiful! He tino ataahua te ngahere ki reira. Camera never does justice to the vibrancy of the greens. Nice hut, too. Who left their boots behind, I wonder.
@@tearoha.hohaia Thanks very much. I thought exactly that on this trip, comparing the camera view to my eye when I was in that gorgeous mature beech. The colours just didn't compare. They looked like a serviceable pair of boots still!
I know, but I meant like processing, etc. We have a doe season, buck season, bow season, rifle season, and must report a kill, although I know some who kill for sport (and leave it where killed) and not for the meat. You also need a permit here. Yes, for venison.
Ah, wow that's quite different to here then. As long as a hunter has a permit (very easy to get) and follows rules around etiquette, safety and where to hunt, deer can be hunted year round. We have the mating season which a lot of people take advantage of for the increased deer activity, but no extra processes are required to hunt it. Outside of hunted meat I'm mostly vegetarian. But my justification for hunting in NZ is due to the pest status of deer, so shooting one is a favour for the environment. I personally wouldn't hunt if they weren't pests like they are here
Cheers for watching, I enjoy your channel. I checked out some of the Urutawa and Waioeka front country earlier this year. You've inspired me to head back with the rifle soon
Beautiful to see and hear. Thanks.
Thanks Robin!

Cheers for your comments. Beautiful bush to hunt. Looking forward to next time there so thanks for the info
We said hello on your way in! I'm amazed the weather came good, it was getting ugly across the top!
Cheers for stopping by Glen. Yeah I thought I was in for a soaking, but somehow it held off until later in the night!
Really enjoyed your video, excellent
Thanks for stopping by! Appreciate it

Thanks Dave. A while since my last visit too, but a beautiful area not far from home. I never get sick of Kaimanawa trips

What is the issue with the road section
@@jamesprime4263 It’s a long boring walk back to the start

@@ReviloNZwalks Thanks, yea there is some nice country amongst the steepness lol.
@@nzmeateater Definitely steep 😂 think I'll start with the creeks
Flew into that hut in 90s with hela sika. Then they had trouble with 500 put down in kapo live in perth wa now
Thanks for watching Ian!
Another one to add to the list! 🙂
Beautiful spot, get in there!
Hey man how many hours did it take you to walk in?
It's a decent walk, maybe 5 hours? Not much hunting time for just an overnight, but I'm a serial walker 😂
did ya see any trout?
Not on this trip. Do see them occasionally on my trips, I bet there's many that escape my eyesight though!
In New Zealand, what does a person do with a deer after killing it?
Venison of course!
is that a question or are we looking for recipes?
