Totally agree, when you work with trauma, diseases, or pain, you need prioritize the needs and to manage, balance risk and benefit and always keep in mind "First cause no harm... whatsoever" physical, psychological or emotional.

As a dog groomer, I felt everything Pauly said. Owners are consistently rewarding bad behavior then wonder why I charge them more. Well Brenda your dog damn near bit my finger off and you told her it was ok! Pauly is a God send. ❤ thank you for everything you do!
Your farrier is actually quite patient. Anyone who has something negative to say about him obviously hasn’t been around very much. I think he’s pretty awesome! Haters need to try to do his job for a week….. Hell, just try it for one day…. Pauly, you rock!!!
I agree they prob know nothing about horses! I think Pauly is SO good with the horses he really tries to build a relationship with those that he can! He runs rings around my farriers here in Australia 😮
People who complain about a farrier correcting a horses dangerous behavior, should have taken the time to train their horse to stand for the farrier. The farrier shouldn't have to train a horse on top of trimming the hooves and shoeing the horse. Obviously, the exception to that is these rescues. Actually, not an exception, their "owners" wronged them as well. Thanks to Pauly for all his hard work and to all these caring individuals that help them each day.

My nephew is a farrier. After being a farrier for years, his body is beat up like a 60 year old man. Thats the price paid for such a physcially intensive and dangerous job.
I feel like people are forgetting that you have to work with horses that are almost wild, complete strangers to you when working with them the first time and some of them have made very bad experience with humans. Horses like these aren't your well-known friend, your cuddle pet or your trusty co-worker. They can get very dangerous and all of you are risking your health working with them to give them a new chance. Horses that where completely wild last week, are much easier to handle now, that shows that you are doing the right thing, the same for Pauly. He really gives his all and best to help out, even when he puts his own life at risk. Not everybody is perfect, like he says himself, but his work is definitely good and he always tries to be as patient as he can be (and we all have a bad day now and than, that can make it very hard). We are all human and we can all have our good and our bad moments, just because you are working with animals doesn't mean you aren't allowed to make a mistake (even if some out there think like that, but that is not how reality works). It is always easy to backseat. But people that really got their own experience, will rather try and help out, instead of sitting their and pointing their fingers, because they know how hard it can be. I wish you all great health and patience in the future, with the horses and with the people in the comments, it is never easy to have so many eyes on you.
Thanks to the vet who came out and to Pauly. It’s not work for the faint of heart. And all the rest of the crew who work so hard to look after these animals from such a variety of circumstances. The patience and determination to do what’s right are an inspiration. Grateful there are still people doing their best in the midst of heartache and sometimes relentless criticism. 🐎
I have two farriers in my area that I use. They both have been excellent with my two horses and always let me know how the feet are and also complement on how well behaved they are. As an owner, I want to make sure my horses stand for the farrier and vet. I am constantly working with them on picking up their feet, doing lots of stretches with them to prepare for the farrier and Lord knows what else I can think off. I want my farriers to return and not come back because I haven't done my part in keeping them safe and coming back.

I am in disbelief at Paulie getting mean comments after that last video. He is a farrier, not a trainer. It is not his job to get the horse ok with having its feet picked up. He has been kind enough to try with these rescues. Of course there will be other ways to get horses ready for a farrier, but those take more time & most horses come in with extra long hooves or infections or need for corrective shoeing & need immediate care. I’m sure others can defend Paulie better. Lastly, volunteer to train those horses to pick up their feet for a farrier. (This post does not apply to ones offering tips/advice).-I forgot to thank the vet who came out for these horses. She helped 17 in 1 trip!
well said🙏🏼 sometimes a harder hand is needed for the horses savety and health. it is what it is sometimes. i am just really gratefull for all these people for saving these amazing horses and giving them a good home. they do more than a lot of other rescuers do and i can't thank them enough.
Pauly you explained the situation beautifully. Horses can be extremely dangerous and it's the owner's obligation and responsibility to train their horses at a young age to have ground manners and work up from there.
Everyone who is seen working in this upload must have no problem sleeping at night. Everyone physically gives their all for the horses that go through Pony Tales.
I have not seen so many horses that have been handled in their life not stand for a farrier. I think that stock is really necessary for the safety of your farrier. I have seen him deal with unruly horse there before. God Bless you for giving him some protection & saving his body from the strain that breaks a man down over the years, trying to hold the weight, bending, getting kicked, bit, stepped on. It's the only safe way besides giving them some tranquilizers to calm them down, making the sleepy! Very glad to see the draft horses getting the hoof care they desperately need but haven't gotten because they where not trained when they were babies to pick up their feet. It way easier when horses are babies to get them use to their legs & feet messed with. The straps across the backs keeping them from rearing is a great safety thing for horses & people! It is true that horses can Kill You. So, ground training is vital starting when they are babies . When you deal with rescue horses you know nothing about. It's like getting a box of Chocolates! You never know what your going to get! Forrest Gump!
Part of the reason these poor horses end up in these auctions is because they aren't trained or handled and left out in a pasture. Or they get bad training and become reactive and afraid. Teaching a horse proper manners is so so very important to allowing that animal to thrive. Things they should be learning right away like standing still and leading, loading and picking up their feet are crucial to keeping horses healthy and happy and people safe. Unfortunately as Pauly said, there's a lot of people that buy horses that have no business owning them.
I love Paulie's attitude. The bit about reality of working with big animals is spot on. It's dangerous because they are big and can kill you in a jiffy. And I definetly think a person who rewards bad behavior to farrier with babying a treat deserves the rasp.
PAULIE! You are da man! You are an awesome Farrier and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! You really need a spa day! It may be something you might think of doing a couple times a year and yes, get a manicure for guys. I treated my husband to a foot massage and manicure and he loved it! Get a facial as well. You won't regret it. At least try it and then you can pick what you liked. You deserve it. Love the work ya'll do there and it really is satisfying to see how well cared for these horses are. You all are fantastic, well trained!
Pauly, thanks for saying it!! Worked in barns for over 30 years. Spoiled horses are the worst!! Should do a video on how to hold a horse for the farrier. Rope halters are ok for a quick catch or a well broke horse. I personally consider them junk if you need some kind of face control on a horse. Expecially holding them for the vet or farrier.

I’ve seen horses put down for hoof problems here because the farriers do not have the knowledge or patience to work on the problem like Pauly does! If he came to Australia he would be worth a fortune but tell him he can only come here if he is close enough to do my daughters horses lol 😂 we can NOT get a decent farrier here, worth his weight in gold. And let’s face it, as much as I love Horse Plus, a LOT of these horses would be put down if they ended up with them because they seem to only just be trying out ways to solve hoof problems with casts etc. They are only now getting a farrier to do those jobs. The dedication you guys put in to save these poor lives is commendable, please DONT change to the “other way” of rescuing, I know it must cost you a fortune to work on some of these horses but you guys value EVERY life. I’m in tears every episode that has a black horse with a white star as I lost my 20yo Black Percheron x QH in a freak paddock accident last October, he was my world, my heart horse, my soul mate through my divorce. I would give anything to still have him here and it upsets me that people just throw away their draft horses in the USA. They are SO expensive here, I will never be able to afford another one on a disability pension. I would adopt one in a heartbeat from you guys if I could. And when I saw the part with Liesl‘s adoption I was so touched. She had such a road to go - and she made it! You all are doing such amazing work with the horses to give them their best chances. in our area we have 5 trimmers and they are booked all the time. If you are lucky enough to be in there rotations you make sure the horse is on there best behaviour for the Ferrier ;)

Sayle and Beauty are so pretty. I feel bad about beauty being the way she is. I had a percheron who loved to sit back on my farrier I had, he corrected her and it was amazing seeing her start to behave afterwards.
Horses have to have manners especially the bigger they are. We dont sedate for farriers here in Australia so you have to teach your horse manners. My Percheron x was always a good boy but he too would lean on the farrier lol 😂 My daughters SB is a real pain so we let our farrier put her up against a fence which seemed to help, if he has to tell her off we tell him to do it and she has now learned she won’t get away with it! It’s the only way! Paulie is SO patient

I freaking love Pauly. I'm a farrier too and I have never had a bad thought about him. Honestly the only negative thoughts I've had have been that the horses need more work or drugs before he works on them because he's working too damn hard and at too much risk of getting injured.
I'm sticking to duct tape on the nose 😂since Ive used it on three horses after seeing a video on it by another farrier, one mare just stood there flapping her head playing with the tape
I’m up in northern Minnesota. Your farrier is great at his craft. When people have not been in the line of work they can’t begin to understand the inner workings. He’s an expert, let him make the call on his welfare and safety in trying to do what is best for the animals and still retain his life.

I know very little about horses; I know even less about what it takes to be a farrier (although after watching several of your videos, I am beginning to understand quite a bit). Anyone who thinks that this job is easy needs to think of horses the same way as you do about bicycles. If you ride your bicycle like nothing will ever happen to you and you play chicken with a motorcycle, a car or a truck, guess who wins? Same is true with humans - you can't play chicken with a horse because the horse will win every time! I am amazed at the patience, the skill and the resilience Pauly has. I also love his attitude towards horses. He will do his best to help each of them unless he knows that the horse is suffering and has no (or very little) hope of ever getting better. No sugar coating, just the plain truth. My kind of guy! I hope you never lose him.

Paulie Rocks, very patient with all the nervous horses he deals with. And he is absolutely right about what damage can be done by an animal who is in distress. Fight or flight takes over and if he can't run he's going to fight. A human is no match for a hysterical horse who feels he is in peril.
To many women think they need to be a horses friend and not the alpha of the herd. So the horse takes that roll and can become dangerous. Paulie is a great farrier and is only as strict as he needs to be, with like he said a very large toddler.😊
I begin to wonder if these horse's that are so traumatic in the shoot haven't had traumatic experience with being tied up in one?? Great job to all!! Without you there wouldn't be help for these horses!!
If i could fly Pauly all the way to Europe i would do it in a heartbeat for my horses ( if i’d had any at the moment ). He is an amazing farrier clearly very passionate about what he’s doing. I hope at some point when i will have horses i’ll find people as passionate as he is to team them and to care for my horses
I’ve seen this high stepping in the hind legs before in goats. It has something to do with ligaments and it can be rectified if it’s caught in time. I hope this horse can be helped. She’s so sweet and petite.

Tractor tires are uber expensive this is the first time I've seen a blow out like that! Usually they just lose their bead and can be reset, gosh this is sad I hope I have a few extra dollars on payday to send over!
I highly recommend flavored salt lick snacks for difficult to handle horses. Use as a training aid, they get it when they stand quietly, when they fidget you pull away. Works amazing.
For the few horses with loose stool have you tried adding some plain canned pumpkin to their feed? I'll donate for a few cans to try it if you havent and would like to try it

I love Paulie's attitude. The bit about reality of working with big animals is spot on. It's dangerous because they are big and can kill you in a jiffy. And I definetly think a person who rewards bad behavior to farrier with babying a treat deserves the rasp.

PAULIE! You are da man! You are an awesome Farrier and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! You really need a spa day! It may be something you might think of doing a couple times a year and yes, get a manicure for guys. I treated my husband to a foot massage and manicure and he loved it! Get a facial as well. You won't regret it. At least try it and then you can pick what you liked. You deserve it. Love the work ya'll do there and it really is satisfying to see how well cared for these horses are. You all are fantastic, well trained!

Pauly, thanks for saying it!! Worked in barns for over 30 years. Spoiled horses are the worst!! Should do a video on how to hold a horse for the farrier. Rope halters are ok for a quick catch or a well broke horse. I personally consider them junk if you need some kind of face control on a horse. Expecially holding them for the vet or farrier.

I’ve seen horses put down for hoof problems here because the farriers do not have the knowledge or patience to work on the problem like Pauly does! If he came to Australia he would be worth a fortune but tell him he can only come here if he is close enough to do my daughters horses lol 😂 we can NOT get a decent farrier here, worth his weight in gold.
And let’s face it, as much as I love Horse Plus, a LOT of these horses would be put down if they ended up with them because they seem to only just be trying out ways to solve hoof problems with casts etc. They are only now getting a farrier to do those jobs.
The dedication you guys put in to save these poor lives is commendable, please DONT change to the “other way” of rescuing, I know it must cost you a fortune to work on some of these horses but you guys value EVERY life.
I’m in tears every episode that has a black horse with a white star as I lost my 20yo Black Percheron x QH in a freak paddock accident last October, he was my world, my heart horse, my soul mate through my divorce. I would give anything to still have him here and it upsets me that people just throw away their draft horses in the USA. They are SO expensive here, I will never be able to afford another one on a disability pension. I would adopt one in a heartbeat from you guys if I could. LOVE envy SO much, so like my sweet big boy 😢So if you get a BIG donation from Australia and a application to adopt a black Percheron X you can say “bloody hell Tara finally won the lotto” 😂

in our area we have 5 trimmers and they are booked all the time. If you are lucky enough to be in there rotations you make sure the horse is on there best behaviour for the Ferrier ;)

I had a percheron who loved to sit back on my farrier I had, he corrected her and it was amazing seeing her start to behave afterwards.
Horses have to have manners especially the bigger they are. We dont sedate for farriers here in Australia so you have to teach your horse manners. My Percheron x was always a good boy but he too would lean on the farrier lol 😂
My daughters SB is a real pain so we let our farrier put her up against a fence which seemed to help, if he has to tell her off we tell him to do it and she has now learned she won’t get away with it! It’s the only way! Paulie is SO patient

I freaking love Pauly. I'm a farrier too and I have never had a bad thought about him. Honestly the only negative thoughts I've had have been that the horses need more work or drugs before he works on them because he's working too damn hard and at too much risk of getting injured.
Some of the horses cannot wait that long and some are too worked up prior to seeing the farrier that the drugs will not take. No hoof, no horse :/

I’m up in northern Minnesota. Your farrier is great at his craft. When people have not been in the line of work they can’t begin to understand the inner workings. He’s an expert, let him make the call on his welfare and safety in trying to do what is best for the animals and still retain his life.

I have always taught my horses, ‘foot, foot’ and tapped them on the leg. They would shift their weight and pick up the foot. Started them as foals.

I know very little about horses; I know even less about what it takes to be a farrier (although after watching several of your videos, I am beginning to understand quite a bit). Anyone who thinks that this job is easy needs to think of horses the same way as you do about bicycles. If you ride your bicycle like nothing will ever happen to you and you play chicken with a motorcycle, a car or a truck, guess who wins? Same is true with humans - you can't play chicken with a horse because the horse will win every time! I am amazed at the patience, the skill and the resilience Pauly has. I also love his attitude towards horses. He will do his best to help each of them unless he knows that the horse is suffering and has no (or very little) hope of ever getting better. No sugar coating, just the plain truth. My kind of guy! I hope you never lose him.

Paulie Rocks, very patient with all the nervous horses he deals with. And he is absolutely right about what damage can be done by an animal who is in distress. Fight or flight takes over and if he can't run he's going to fight. A human is no match for a hysterical horse who feels he is in peril.

To many women think they need to be a horses friend and not the alpha of the herd. So the horse takes that roll and can become dangerous. Paulie is a great farrier and is only as strict as he needs to be, with like he said a very large toddler.😊

If i could fly Pauly all the way to Europe i would do it in a heartbeat for my horses ( if i’d had any at the moment ). He is an amazing farrier clearly very passionate about what he’s doing. I hope at some point when i will have horses i’ll find people as passionate as he is to team them and to care for my horses
I’ve seen this high stepping in the hind legs before in goats. It has something to do with ligaments and it can be rectified if it’s caught in time. I hope this horse can be helped. She’s so sweet and petite.

Tractor tires are uber expensive this is the first time I've seen a blow out like that! Usually they just lose their bead and can be reset, gosh this is sad I hope I have a few extra dollars on payday to send over!
I highly recommend flavored salt lick snacks for difficult to handle horses. Use as a training aid, they get it when they stand quietly, when they fidget you pull away. Works amazing.
For the few horses with loose stool have you tried adding some plain canned pumpkin to their feed? I'll donate for a few cans to try it if you havent and would like to try it
