Tell your dad thank you! My parents have been split up my whole life, so seeing single parents portrayed on screen as a kid was always so special to me. It can feel like a heavy weight knowing you are all your parent has. I loved seeing Goofy find his own happiness because it made me hopeful that my mom and dad would be able to do the same when I got older. They did (kind of).
I feel the same way about The Santa Clause with Tim Allen because it's a story about a man just trying to be the best dad he can, and it doesn't end with some unrealistic moment where he gets back together with Charlie's mom. They just end up being friends and good co-parents.

A Goofy Movie is one of my all time favorite movies, I watched it over and over as a kid and I've shared it with my children and they love it too! I2I and Stand Out are such iconic songs. We have fun quoting lines from the movie, like "I guess I'll have to go (to the store or where ever) aaall aloooone."😆 Your dad did a fantastic job writing a genuinely funny, yet still emotionally touching film that still holds it's own entertaining children to this day.

These two movies have had a major influence on me, both now, and as a kid growing up... I had similar situation that Max had, so seeing not just how he dealt with it, but also how Goofy did.. really helped grow into the man I am today. I can honestly say I was a better son after having seen the first movie.. And certainly a better father after seeing the second. I'm not sure which movie he worked on, if not both, but all of that is to say.. Please tell your father I personally thank him for his role to bringing either of these movies into my life. In defense of Roxane...
I feel like, as a teen, isa pretty common situation to have interest in someone just to get "politely" rejected. There are plenty well intentioned boys and girls who won't be so upfront with the whole ""i don't like you that way" and instead, will just keep postponing dates and hanga outs until the insterested person gives up.
So Roxane acting all "oh, no worries, don't worry about me, i totally can go with someone else" could be seen like that. Plus, right after he panicked and lied, Max says that he wouldn't let her down if it wasn't for an important reason, reasuring that he totally interested, just not available for that specific date.
At least that's how i always got this scene... It wasn't because he said know someone famous , it was because "if it wasn't important, he wouldn't go"

    • @karnagekarnival5127
      @karnagekarnival5127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

@@theywalkinguptoyouand4060 That's the other extreme lmao she wasn't manipulated or gaslit, he lied to reassure her because he didn't see his own reason as good enough. Maybe to make himself look cool, but the purpose was to convince her he really was interested which was true. Yall gotta stop calling every lie gaslighting, it diminishes what gaslighting actually is.

Roxane and max have HAD a crush on each other but both as awkward teens who both don't know how to ask each other out or properly feel they are both being seen enough by one another because confidence. The powerline thing sells that he is interested because out of all the ladies he sings to roxane, and the awkward way roxane approaches max is very "ive been interested for awhile." Vibe. I feel piggy misinterpreted this mainly because he stated that he had to rush out the video and didn't remember much. So i feel he just kinda had to do what he was thinking.

Can we talk about how the second movie has such a perfect soundtrack?
Pig didn't mention it in the video, but since Goofy went to college in the late 70s, he acts like it's still the late 70s when he goes to Max's college, so the entire soundtrack is just classic disco hits, and Goofy's passion for disco is actually what gets the librarian interested in him at first
There's such a perfect scene where Goofy takes over a college nightclub and this causes all the students there to dance to Shake Your Groove Thing, followed by a scene with You Make Me Feel Like Dancing
And the final scene of the movie closes with the song Right Back Where We Started From, which is such a beautiful song and makes the scene 100x better
I honestly think my passion for old music began with this movie

What about when Max defended Goofy in the beginning. Max's friends were groaning about Goofy being there and that he was going to ruin college, but Max defended Goofy in saying that Goofy didn't have a choose and that he was there so that he could get another job. That is why I like the sequel better than the original, because instead of joining in with his friends in complaining about Goofy he stood up for him.

  • @TindraSan
    @TindraSan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +246

Roxanne is extremely underwritten, which gives the viewer alot of room for interpretation, so it makes sense if ppls opinion of her is divided.
Based on the few facts we do have about her (Roxanne's not super popular but not unpopular either, she has an overprotective scary dad, we never see her mom so we dunno if she's in her life or not) and the bits we see of her personality, I always viewed her as a very insecure girl.
I think she legit thought Max was trying to ditch her, that the abrupt fishing trip was just an excuse, and that's why she got so glum until Max gave rly just any type of reassurance, which just happened to be a very far fetched and desperate lie.
Max assumes he needs to look cool, but rly he just needed Roxanne to know he still cared. It prolly would have worked just as well to say "hey I'll make sure to call you whenever I can" or something.

I agree! I don't think Roxanne is a shallow or pretentious girl at all- I think that she would have liked Max without all the theatrics or the Power Line concert thing. If he had asked her out normally I think she would have said yes, but he's so nervous around her that the only way he could work up the courage to even talk to her was to do something elaborate and, well, goofy. At her party, her being upset about him not being at the concert (at least initially, before he shows up on screen) isn't her judging him for not being able to go, in her mind it's confirmation that he lied about not being able to make it to her party just so that he could blow her off.

The animation, the soundtrack, the emotional and possible physical abuse that goes on in Pete's home with PJ as alot of kids know parents like that, and Pete trying to put his anger on Goofy all because he is jealous of thier more positive relationship no matter how much money he spends,, and a single parent household (for some of us) is amazing.

I'm fairly certain that Roxanne has a thing for Max too and isnt as shallow as you're thinking. In the opening when he freaks after "hyuking" she looks concerned when Max runs off after they were having a decent conversation probably making her wonder if he was interested or not. I think him doing the Power Line prank at school just helped her understand that Max does like her, especially when he got close to her and lip synced that part of the song. Plus she's glum when Max says he can't go to their date because she thinks Max's trying to blow her off, I'm sure if he lead(?) with the fishing trip she would've been just as understanding.

I remember loving these movies so much. So my bf and I rewatched them also. But we concluded in the second movie that Goofy was going crazy and weirdly obsessive with Max and Max was just a jerk xD I get that Goofy felt really really lonely and losing his job wasn't even his fault (it was the lacking safety precautions), but he literally stalked his son into college. I thought it was weird. Still loving Goofy and the movies tho

My parents got this for me, and I watched the first one every day I could (pretty much everyday) now i'm 27 and still play/sing the music often. It never loses it's touch I swear. I understand not everyone feels that way, but just forever special to me. The Second is just a treat, growing up with Max from Goof Troop til college? So cool to see. Plus Max and I both becoming skaters just brought me closer. Music was thankfully more my culture mixed with Disney too. Just can't get enough. Btw Roxanne doesn't go anywhere technically just a different college! You see them in House of Mouse afterwards.

One of my favorite Disney films! I love the hot tub scene, Goof Troop gets real lol. Also love how angry Goofy is after Max tells him to go "Left". He's sooo mad! We've seen Goofy irritated, confused, even perturbed but never full on "Crash the car" mad. Must be thinking "Dammit, Pete was right."

What I like about their story is how it explores the idea of having a cartoon parent. I loved cartoons as a kid but always felt I would probably dislike being in a cartoon world-cartoon characters, theoretically, are naive and lack empathy. Max represents the human audience and Goofy was/is the perfect kind of character to surprise people with but also believable as a parent.

In the first goofy movie production phase there actually was a plan how Ms. Goof died.
(This is how I remember it)
So, the whole family was on a road trip in Grand Canyon and the Goof family were taking photos, but unfortunately Ms. Goof falls off the edge into her doom, wich makes the scene where Goofy and Max agrue *in Grand Canyon* so much more...dramatic or should I say, disturbing.

Disney's 90's stuff is actually GOD Tier.
Duck Tales (it was so good it got a reboot with cameos from to other Donald Duck related works), 101 Dalmatians series (which also got a reboot), Timon and Pumbaa's series and, of course, The Goofy Movies.
Can't say much from the animated series Goof Troop as we never got it where I'm from, but the R34 community sure can!

Theory take: we see Donald and Mickey, so there are definitly other sentient animals in this world, possums are real.
Goofy wants to recapture his own youthful trips with his dad and takes Max to a dated animatronic show down south that is super unflattering to possums.
Max does not hate this segment of the trip so loudly because it's a hokey tourist trap, he's upset his dad dragged him to a creepy old racist robot show.
If I had the means, that would be ripe for an edit with Max's VA during the Static Shock racism episode.

The first one is my absolute favorite, max is my favorite Disney character, and goofy is like the greatest dad of all time, the 2nd one I liked a little less than the first one because the 2nd one focused more on goofy than max, but I like that 2 because max feels like an adult, he feels like a person and not a kid anymore, him growing up was a beautiful thing and him and goofy finally having a healthy father son relationship was an amazing climax that you didn't think you ever needed to see

I'm a teacher, and when I promised them a movie the afternoon before a long weekend if they worked hard, I chose the original Goofy Movie. While some were left scratching their heads at what the fridge they just watched, i caught many of them humming along to Powerline's songs the next week! And yes, some of the more confused ones did ask me if we 90s kids did act like Max back then.... Admittedly, I said yes without a sense of shame, ut they still giggled and chuckled. Looking at them now, all I can say is, at least we didn't need phones to look cool. All we needed was to hijack a pep rally LOL
